The incident began in a certain Parallel Universe, where Spider-Man Peter Parker was cloned. That world then had two Spider-Man Peter Parkers. Based on their respective outfits, their codenames differed slightly as well: one remained Spider-Man, while the other became Scarlet Spider-Man. At first, Scarlet Spider-Man believed he was the clone, so he got plastic surgery, cut his hair into a short buzz cut, dyed it blond, wore a small vest over his Spider-suit, and lived under the alias Ben Reilly.
