A Millennium-Long Dream Fulfilled in a Single Day
"Ladies and gentlemen, my fellow citizens, all the justices present, I, Steve Rogers, swear before God that I will serve as the fifty-seventh president of the United States. I am deeply honored to have received the recognition and support of all my supporters, and equally regretful that I did not receive a transfer of power from the previous president…"
Steve had finally taken off his Captain America uniform and put on a suit and tie. His dress shoes were polished to a mirror shine, and he was even wearing makeup.
Because today was his big day.
During the last alien invasion, Captain America had led the charge, and his heroic image had been witnessed by all Americans, sending his approval ratings soaring. Besides, countless tragedies had continued to unfold around the world over the past two years.
First came Magneto, then the Tyrant Martial God. They had turned Europe and Africa into rivers of blood, leaving mountains of bones in their wake. The various negative consequences that followed were truly impossible to describe in words.
Europe was essentially ruined by now, having become a playground for all kinds of dark creatures. The wealthy had all fled, while those at the bottom who could not escape had no choice but to remain in the cities and eke out a miserable existence.
As for Africa, the entire continent was shrouded beneath the rule of the Tyrant Martial God. Under his extreme racial system, white people did not even dare send reporters there, so no one knew what the actual situation was. From satellites, they could only see Head Mounds everywhere. No one even knew how many people in Africa were still alive.
Although the Americas had not been affected too severely, Washington, the political center, was gone, leaving behind only an abyss. This had caused the public to panic for quite some time.
Because of the impact of all this turmoil, the public’s demand for security had reached its peak, allowing Captain America to be smoothly elected president. Moreover, since the former president, vice president, and a host of other high-ranking officials had all been wiped out, the election had been held ahead of schedule, and he had naturally taken office early as well.
The purge of the upper ranks also had one benefit: it had left many positions vacant.
The major political families that did not live in Washington all extended olive branches to the new president, trying to place more of their people during the formation of the new government.
What they did not know was that all of it was futile. Families without Hydra blood had already been eliminated before things even began. At most, they would be assigned a few meaningless, consolation posts.
Still, those great families remained enormously powerful in their respective states. Controlling the entire Federation would require a considerable amount of time spent infiltrating and eroding their power.
"…To ensure the safety of all our citizens, I hereby propose a bill covering the restructuring of the military, an increase in the defense budget, a reduction in the size of the conventional armed forces, and the establishment of the Magnetic Field Warrior Special Forces, among other measures. It will be submitted to Congress for a vote." President Rogers stood on the platform and publicly announced the bill his advisers had prepared.
No one understood the importance of the military better than Hydra, especially when it came to the Magnetic Field Warrior Special Forces. Without a doubt, the unit would be placed under Hydra’s control.
At present, every organization privately kept its own Magnetic Field Warriors, and every general had their own Magnetic Field Warriors. There was no doubt that having such powerful weapons in outsiders’ hands would be extremely detrimental to Hydra’s grand plans.
Therefore, the best solution was to gather all Magnetic Field Warriors together and place them under a government military department for management. Naturally, that department would fall under Hydra’s control.
The other countries around the world would certainly follow suit.
After that, the Magnetic Field Warriors of each country would be coordinated and managed by the global independent organization S.H.I.E.L.D., which operated under the United Nations Security Council.
A perfect organizational structure!
After the speech, under the watchful eyes of the media, President Rogers and his fiancée, Ms. Stephanie Malick, walked hand in hand into the newly built White House in New York City, beginning his presidency.
Thanks to Magneto, Washington had become the Abyss of Sin and could no longer continue serving as the capital. No one was willing to return there and attempt any kind of reconstruction, so after several rounds of behind-the-scenes bargaining, New York was chosen as the new capital.
Stephanie Malick was the daughter of Gideon Malick, a member of the World Security Council. Of course, she was also Hydra. However, the Hydra branch of the Malick family was relatively traditional. For a thousand years, they had dreamed of bringing Hydra’s progenitor back from outer space.
After inheriting the tradition for so many years, they no longer knew what the so-called great leader actually was. They only knew that it was supposedly a powerful Inhuman. Rigidly following their ancestral instructions, they sent some of their descendants to the other side of the Monolith to serve their leader.
But they only knew how to activate the Monolith and send people over. They had no idea how to activate the Monolith on the other side and bring people back. It was completely a one-way trip, nothing but a means of sending people to their deaths.
They also had no idea that this so-called service merely meant providing the leader with food and hosts.
But now, they had seen a glimmer of hope for fulfilling their dream.
The Chitauri alien ships had been shot down by Earth, and many prisoners had been captured. With those alien ships, they should be able to send a vessel over to receive Hive, as long as they obtained the coordinates of the other side of the world.
They had waited for thousands of years, so they did not mind waiting a few more.
Therefore, Councilman Malick used his connections within Hydra to contact Alexander, hoping to send people to participate in the research on the alien ships.
As it happened, Alexander also needed to establish a connection with the future president of the United States. Thus, the two sides hit it off immediately and formed a political marriage.
Now that both snakeheads belonged to the same group, many resources could naturally be shared.
Councilman Malick was pleasantly surprised to discover that this branch of S.H.I.E.L.D. had such abundant resources. Not only did they have alien ships at their disposal, they even had another Monolith.
This Monolith was different from the one owned by the Malick family, but its function was the same: teleportation.
In the past, the Malick family had sent astronauts there through the space agency. Those who had reached the other side through the unscientific portal known as the Monolith had been unable to return. What they lacked now was the technology to come back from the other side.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had previously had no idea what the Monolith was for. Now that they knew it was a portal, they began conducting targeted research on it.
The current core research team at S.H.I.E.L.D. consisted of Shuri, Fitz, and Simmons. Their technical expertise was far beyond that of the research teams the Malick family had assembled over the past thousand years.
After carefully studying the method for opening the Monolith portal provided by the Malick family, the S.H.I.E.L.D. research team made astonishingly rapid progress. They soon determined that the key to opening the Monolith portal lay in sonic resonance.
After making precise calculations, Fitz and the others finally created a control device capable of freely opening and closing the portal. This meant that the originally dangerous one-way teleportation had been transformed into a controllable two-way passage.
Councilman Malick was overjoyed. After requesting a control device, he began preparing for the mission to welcome the leader.
Since the mission could be dangerous, sufficient force was essential. The Current Drive Realm was only the minimum requirement; the team leader had to be a Magnetic Field Warrior.
Fortunately, Hydra was not lacking in high-level fighters. They quickly assembled an armed squad.
A millennium-long dream had finally been fulfilled in a single day. Gideon Malick could no longer contain his excitement, so as soon as the team was assembled, he immediately ordered everyone to set out and bring back their leader.
