"Sigh."
A Rogue Ninja crouched on the ground, rummaging through corpses. Without looking back, he complained to his companion behind him, "If the Third Hokage hadn’t sent us off to die, I actually would’ve liked that old man."
"After all, he treated Ninja from commoner backgrounds like us pretty well. But… rather than face those disgusting Sealing Techniques, I’d rather fight those Uchiha bastards…"
Trusting his leader and the Hidden Mist Technique, the Kirigakure Rogue Ninja maintained only the bare minimum of vigilance toward his surroundings.
But clearly, his vigilance was far from enough.
"I’m talking to you. Did you go mute?"
Having received no response from his companion for too long, the Kirigakure Rogue Ninja frowned and turned around.
Suddenly, his mouth fell slightly open, and his soul nearly left his body.
An enemy…
The last things reflected in his eyes were a sharp Kunai and his companion’s corpse.
Splat!
"…"
Watching Yun Chuan vanish like a ghost after killing one person, only to appear behind another, Jiyun’s brow twitched involuntarily.
Compared to when he had been bringing her along, Yun Chuan’s movements were far more decisive and efficient when he acted alone.
As long as he ensured his target could not make a sound, Yun Chuan only needed to lightly drive his blade into the fragile brain, then silently drag the twitching corpse into the shadows.
No one noticed the entire process. In less than a minute, he had dealt with all the scattered Rogue Ninja, like a silent Soul Reaper claiming lives!
In the end, only the Rogue Ninja Leader sitting at the bow and staring into the distance remained.
"Hm?"
At the same time, the Rogue Ninja Leader’s nose suddenly twitched, and a trace of puzzlement flashed through his eyes.
Had this blood mist become a little thicker?
It felt sticky, like spider silk blown against his face by the wind.
"I don’t remember using this much Chakra to cast the Hidden Mist Technique."
As soon as the words left his mouth, his pupils constricted. He abruptly raised his head, his eyes darting rapidly.
The ship had suddenly fallen silent.
Sometimes, an environment that had sounded exceptionally noisy would inexplicably become quiet in an instant.
Yun Chuan had heard a strange explanation for this in his previous life.
—Whenever this happened, it meant an angel was passing by.
But compared to some incomprehensible "angel," Yun Chuan felt more like a phantom.
Whoosh!!
A gust of wind suddenly howled behind the Rogue Ninja Leader, scattering the swirling blood mist and revealing that phantom-like figure!
"…"
The Rogue Ninja Leader’s eyes spun toward the movement. He saw only the flashing blade rushing at him, but his body could no longer keep up with his mind.
He could only sit there like a statue, seemingly waiting silently for that strike.
Screech!
With a faint tearing sound, a line of blood appeared across the Rogue Ninja Leader’s throat.
He instantly raised a hand to cover his neck, but blood still surged through his fingers.
Thud!
Yun Chuan silently watched him collapse to his knees, yet unexpectedly showed no expression.
That slash had nearly cut through half his neck, from his vocal cords and larynx all the way to his cervical vertebrae. Within seconds, blood would flood his lungs with every breath.
"Ghk, ghk!" Blood spilled from the Rogue Ninja Leader’s mouth, and his eyes were filled with disbelief. "How… could this be…"
Before defecting, he had belonged to Kirigakure’s Hunter-Nin Squad, the Corpse Disposal Unit that even their comrades feared!
It was a special unit under the Mizukage’s Anbu. Every member was an elite of the Anbu, the best at Assassination Arts and medical techniques, responsible for hunting down Rogue Ninja and disposing of corpses.
Whether it was assassination, pursuit, or close combat, "intuition" was always the first skill they mastered.
Through battle after battle, they had trained their own personal "red lines." Once a target entered that range, they could instantly detect it and react.
And his "red line" was five meters.
That meant no being could approach within five meters of him without a sound.
There were no exceptions—not even mosquitoes!
Yet now, he had encountered an "exception."
Body Flicker Technique? Kekkei Genkai?
Too fast! Too quiet!
It was simply beyond his comprehension!
"Ghk, ghk…"
The Rogue Ninja Leader clutched his throat and stared fixedly at the youth, as though he were looking at a ghost that should not exist.
The Hidden Mist Technique had detected neither sound nor Chakra. If he had not seen him with his own eyes, he would have found it hard to believe that a person was truly standing there!
He was, after all, a Special Jonin who had risked his life through all manner of dangerous missions and successfully defected from Kirigakure.
If he died so absurdly at the hands of a youth, people would probably laugh if they heard about it.
"Ha." Yun Chuan did indeed laugh, then said softly, "Your acting is pretty good."
The next moment, the Rogue Ninja trembling on the deck suddenly stiffened and stopped moving.
Pop!!
With a crisp sound like a bubble bursting, the "corpse" at Yun Chuan’s feet turned into a pool of blood.
Behind him, a cloaked figure suddenly emerged from the puddle, the Kunai in his hand stabbing straight toward Yun Chuan’s heart!
An invisible, chilling killing intent instantly enveloped Yun Chuan!
The Rogue Ninja Leader’s slashing Kunai stirred up a piercing gale, blowing away the blood mist before him.
But what was revealed in the end was only the gray curtain of rain and a dark shadow in the corner.
Corpses. They were all corpses.
The corner was piled high with bodies. Dark red blood pooled like water, still slowly rising and filling the blood mist that had been blown away.
Yet there was no sign of anyone where Yun Chuan had been standing!
"Damn it! That little brat…"
The Rogue Ninja Leader could not help feeling as if he were dreaming, as though he had stepped into an illusion of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.
He muttered a curse under his breath in irritation, but his body honestly held its breath.
The entire ship once again sank into dead silence. Before him remained only the blood mist he had released, along with his thunderous heartbeat and ragged breathing.
Other than that, he could see nothing, hear nothing, sense nothing.
"What kind of joke is this?!"
The Rogue Ninja Leader’s furious roar was full of terror.
The caster of the Hidden Mist Technique could use the Chakra within the "mist" to "sense" a target’s location. It was precisely because of this effect, which perfectly complemented Assassination Arts, that it had become a standard technique among Kirigakure Ninja.
As long as someone used a technique and caused Chakra fluctuations, he should have been able to sense them.
Everything he knew had been developed from the foundation of the Hidden Mist Technique.
But now…
Splat!
The sound of flesh being pierced was faint, carried by the wind into the rain.
This time, he no longer had the chance to use a Water Clone.
"Cough, cough… ngh!"
The Rogue Ninja Leader’s movements became incredibly stiff as he slowly lowered his head to look at himself.
Circular red lines split open at both wrists. As blood sprayed downward, his two hands gradually slid off and hit the ground.
The severed wrists were smooth and even, every muscle fiber clearly visible.
Steam rose from the blood-red edge of the Kunai, as though it were alive and greedily breathing in the air.
The sight made the Rogue Ninja Leader open his mouth wide, but his roar remained trapped in his throat.
"Shh."
Yun Chuan gently covered his mouth, his voice as drifting as willow fluff in the wind. "Could you please be a little quieter?"
Please do not frighten that timid child.
Suddenly, Yun Chuan’s calm expression shifted as his brows rose.
