Afterlife, the Inhumans’ Base (2nd Update)
Hearing Nick Fury’s words, Steve fell silent.
He did not know how to solve this problem either.
After waking up, he had met Tony Stark a few times. To be honest, neither of them had made a good impression on the other when they first met.
Tony thought he was an old fossil, while he found Tony far too flippant. They simply rubbed each other the wrong way in every respect.
However, after working together twice in operations against Hydra, their relationship gradually eased, because they had both seen qualities in the other that could not be ignored.
They also discovered that, at heart, they were the same kind of person.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Just then, someone knocked on the conference room door, and Hill walked in holding a tablet.
"Director, the satellite has just detected an object flying at extreme speed. It is traveling at around mach 30. According to the satellite footage, it is Li Chuan."
The image displayed on the tablet showed Li Chuan merged with the Flying Sword Wings, streaking through the sky at high speed.
Under normal circumstances, faced with a situation like this, S.H.I.E.L.D. would certainly have immediately tried to intercept and track it. But since it was Li Chuan, she could only come and ask the director for instructions.
"This guy is getting harder and harder to figure out!"
Nick Fury looked at the image on the tablet, then finally waved his hand helplessly.
"Leave him alone. Do not monitor or follow him."
As for Li Chuan, as long as he did not cross any fundamental lines, Fury would choose to turn a blind eye.
Because at present, he truly had no means of restraining him. Even Li Chuan’s wife was no easy opponent, unless he called Captain Marvel back.
But Li Chuan was not some heinous criminal. Just last year, he had protected Earth and repelled an alien invasion, and he often did good deeds in New York.
His real-world identity was that of the world’s most famous philanthropist, the head of Li Group. The medicines his company sold were inexpensive and had saved countless people suffering from cancer, disabilities, and poverty.
For now, Li Chuan, the mysterious head of Li Group, ranked far above Tony in global popularity. If he were threatened, countless people around the world would probably take to the streets in protest.
Most importantly, he had only given them a large amount of Hydra intelligence yesterday.
Captain Marvel was not Fury’s subordinate. If he asked her to come back and deal with someone, that person had to be a supervillain threatening Earth’s safety.
If he told Captain Marvel what Li Chuan had done, she would probably turn around and leave.
So he had thought it through clearly. Rather than target him, it was better to win him over.
That way, if another crisis arose that Earth could not handle, at least someone as powerful as Li Chuan would be there on the front line.
He had a strong desire for control and liked the feeling of having everything under his grasp, but he was not stupid.
Otherwise, why did he not try to control Captain Marvel and keep her on Earth to help? Why bother caring about the lives of those extraterrestrial beings?
"Fury, can you put in a few good words for Bucky? Given my relationship with Bucky, I’m afraid Tony will misunderstand when the time comes."
After thinking for a while, Steve looked at Nick Fury.
Nick Fury decisively shook his head.
"If I go, it will probably make things worse. Tony has no favorable impression of me or S.H.I.E.L.D. as a whole. Every time he comes to help us fight Hydra, it is because he wants to do it himself. You should know that very well."
Hearing Nick Fury’s words, Steve could not help sighing. That was indeed true. During their several collaborations, he had never heard Tony say anything good about Nick Fury.
"But you can go find him. I think as long as he is willing to help, there should not be much of a problem."
At that moment, Nick Fury turned the tablet in his hand around, revealing Li Chuan on the screen.
"So this is Afterlife, the Inhumans’ base!"
Twenty minutes later, Li Chuan appeared above an isolated town completely surrounded by mountains, with no roads leading to the outside world.
The buildings in the town had a distinctly Eastern style. He swept his gaze over it and estimated that more than a hundred people lived there.
According to the tracker’s coordinates, Skye was currently in the house at the center of the town below.
The hardest step had now been completed. Everything after this would be simple.
There was no infiltration, no ambush. Li Chuan simply flapped the Flying Sword Wings behind his back and slowly descended from the sky into the center of the town.
When the other people in the town saw Li Chuan appear with metal wings growing from his back, they were somewhat surprised, but not particularly shocked.
For some reason, the clan leader had recently begun opening the mist much more frequently. Some people had disappeared from the town, but quite a few had also awakened their own abilities.
Someone like Li Chuan, with metal wings on his back, looked a little strange, but there were plenty of people stranger than him.
So they merely took Li Chuan for some newly awakened flying Inhuman.
"Hey, sir, don’t fly around the square using your ability. If you want to fly, go to the training grounds behind the mountain."
An Inhuman even kindly reminded him.
Li Chuan merely smiled and nodded, then walked toward the house where Skye was.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
He politely raised his hand and knocked twice. A middle-aged woman’s voice immediately came from inside.
"Who is it?"
"I’m Skye’s friend. Would it be convenient to let me come in so we can talk?"
Li Chuan responded.
The moment his words fell, Skye’s excited voice came from within.
"Mom, he’s the friend I told you about, the one who can help you."
"Skye, you don’t understand. Humans will never accept us Inhumans. Mom is glad that the mist awakened your ability. Just stay here and live in peace. Mom will handle everything else."
Jiaying looked at the daughter she had been separated from for twenty years and signaled to Gordon beside her. Gordon immediately teleported away.
Then an alarm suddenly sounded throughout the entire town.
No one could stop her revenge, or stop her Human Extinction Plan. Not even her daughter.
Time rewound twenty minutes.
After Gordon brought Skye back to Afterlife, she immediately met her mother Jiaying, whom she had missed day and night for twenty years.
Through the connection between Inhumans, as well as Skye’s striking resemblance to herself, Jiaying quickly thought of Daisy, the daughter from whom she had been separated for many years.
Her greatest wish was revenge, but that did not mean she did not care about her daughter. It was simply that the world was so vast, and finding her daughter among the endless sea of people was no easy task.
Just as she was about to learn more about Skye’s situation and conduct a blood test using equipment, Skye called out, "Mom," before she could.
What followed was naturally a warm reunion between mother and daughter, as they shared the experiences of their past years.
Because of Li Chuan’s instructions, Skye did not hide anything. She directly explained that a friend had helped her awaken the mist, and that this friend would soon come to help the Inhumans live better lives in the future, without worrying about being rejected or cruelly mistreated by humans again.
The moment Skye finished speaking, there was a knock at the door. Li Chuan had arrived.
