Am I the Only One Without a Background?
"Ah." Luffy’s face turned grave. "Zoro’s ancestor appeared and wants to compete with him for the title of greatest Sword Master!"
"???" Nami looked at Luffy with a strange expression. She understood every word he said, but when put together, she had no idea what they meant.
"That’s not my ancestor, just my master’s ancestor!"
Zoro, lying there, shouted loudly, "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Even so." Usopp scratched his head. "That guy really does look a lot like you!"
Before long, amid the Straw Hat Crew’s overlapping chatter, Nami learned about their experiences.
In the original story, Luffy and his group, while dining at the Sea Restaurant, had first encountered Krieg, the East Blue overlord who had fled back in defeat from the Grand Line, and then Hawkeye, who had seen them rowing their boat in such a pathetic state—scratch that… who had hunted them down out of boredom.
Afterward, Luffy fought a fierce battle with Krieg and suffered serious injuries, while Zoro directly challenged Hawkeye, only to be defeated by Hawkeye with a dining knife.
But in this world, where Yota had caused a butterfly effect, another expert had intruded during that time: Ryuma!
Perhaps he had wanted to challenge Hawkeye, or perhaps he had wanted to see the successor of his descendant. In any case, Ryuma had encountered Hawkeye.
Given these two men’s swordsmanship and their sword-obsessed personalities, the result after meeting was obvious. A fierce battle erupted, nearly turning the Sea Restaurant into a shipwreck at the bottom of the sea.
Luffy and the others’ ship had become such a wreck because of it, while Zoro had been severely injured by the battle’s shockwaves after trying to join in.
Fortunately, Ryuma had shown considerable care toward Zoro and his companions. In the end, because outsiders like them were present and neither Ryuma nor Hawkeye could fight to their heart’s content, the battle ended anticlimactically.
Of course, there was no need to mention the psychological trauma that battle had left behind. Luffy and the others were better off, since they were not swordsmen, and Luffy’s carefree nature meant he did not take it to heart at all.
But for Zoro, being severely injured by the shockwaves without even getting the chance to take part in the fight was several times more devastating than being defeated by Hawkeye’s small knife in the original story. Combined with injuries far worse than before, he still had not recovered even now.
"Is it… really that terrifying?" Nami said stiffly. Suddenly, she recalled Yota’s explanation of the Straw Hat Pirates’ backgrounds.
She slowly turned her head and asked Luffy in a low voice, "Luffy, I have a question for you… What is your relationship with Navy Hero Garp?"
"Hm? You know my grandpa?" Luffy picked his nose as he spoke.
The entire Straw Hat Crew suddenly fell silent.
"Navy Hero Garp? You don’t mean the Navy Hero Garp who captured Roger, do you?" Usopp gave a dry laugh, looked at Luffy, and saw him nod indifferently.
"What?!"
"Luffy, you’re the Navy Hero’s grandson?!"
"No way, then why did you become a pirate?!"
The entire Straw Hat Pirates seemed to boil over as Sanji and Usopp hurriedly asked questions. Luffy merely said without caring, "Because I want to become the Pirate King!"
It took a long while before the Straw Hat Pirates quieted down. Nami took a slight breath to calm herself, then looked at Usopp.
"Usopp, is your father named Yasopp?"
Usopp swallowed, instinctively sensing that Nami was about to say something major. "Y-yes. Do you have news about him?"
Nami gazed at Usopp quietly, then pulled a rather old wanted poster from her pocket. She had gone to great lengths to find it among wanted posters from the Grand Line in order to verify whether what Yota had told her was true.
"A wanted poster? Red Hair Pirates officer, sniper Yasopp. His bounty is… one, ten, a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred million… 950 million Beli!!!"
"What? Usopp’s father is actually a Great Pirate with a bounty close to a billion?!"
"Red Hair Pirates? Your father is a crew member of Red Hair Shanks? That long nose… I remember now. I saw your father when I was in Foosha Village!"
"Ah, Luffy, you’ve actually seen my father!"
Nami lightly slapped her forehead. "I really never expected the people in our pirate crew to have such incredible identities… Either the grandson of a Navy Hero, the son of a Great Pirate worth a billion, or the descendant of a Sword Master’s disciple. Are Sanji and I the only ordinary people?"
As she spoke, Nami looked at Sanji again. Yet she saw his expression shifting uncertainly as he smoked a cigarette, looking like someone with a story to tell.
Nami drew a light, sharp breath. From what she knew, under normal circumstances, after hearing her say that, Sanji would never have remained so unmoved. He should have taken it as an excuse to rush over and fawn over her.
But Sanji was wearing such an expression, as if he had a complicated past… Could it be that Sanji’s identity was unusual too?
Thus, Nami’s voice trembled slightly as she asked, "Sanji, don’t tell me that you, the member who just joined, have some kind of special identity too?"
Sanji raised his head bitterly. "Actually… I’m a member of Germa 66…"
Nami: "…"
My name is Nami. I’m a village girl who joined a pirate crew made up of an idiot captain, a directionless swordsman, a cowardly sniper, and a lovestruck cook.
I thought these guys, like me, had lost both their parents and had no other relatives. But who would have thought that every one of them had a bigger background than the last? I always feel completely out of place with them. What should I do? This is urgent.
Fortunately, Nami was only stunned for a moment. Judging by this bunch’s behavior, even if she tried to treat them like important figures, that illusion would shatter within minutes.
Looking at it another way, grandson of a Navy Hero, descendant of a Sword Master’s disciple, member of Germa 66, or son of a Great Pirate—when they made her angry, did they not still obediently let her knock them on the head and kneel down to listen to her?
This little interlude did not affect anything. Afterward, the Straw Hat Pirates began holding another banquet. Nami did not forget to invite her benefactor Yota, as well as all the villagers of Cocoyasi. Although they had already celebrated once, they did not mind doing it again.
In fact, Yota had long been observing this place with Observation Haki and enjoying the show. Even if Nami had not invited him, he would definitely have come.
