Beast Star Stream, Catching and Grilling Fish
PS: Thanks to Shang*Hun for the donation and for becoming this book’s fourth helmsman. Ahem, I now owed six chapters. I’d slowly pay them back when I was on break next month. (_)
Beast Star
A planet without humans, entirely a world of animals. However, every animal here possessed attack power.
The first thing Su Yu and Mao Jiu did after arriving was find an ideal spot and build a wooden cabin. Su Yu set up a barrier around it, since there were many animals here. It would not be good if one or two of them barged in and destroyed the cabin.
That morning, lunchtime was approaching. Su Yu had originally planned to simply conjure something to eat, but Mao Jiu insisted on catching fish in the stream not far from the cabin.
Su Yu wanted to persuade Mao Jiu not to waste time, but one sentence from her immediately changed his mind.
Mao Jiu shook Su Yu’s arm. "Brother Su Yu, I’ve never caught fish in a stream before. Come with me!"
Su Yu froze when he heard that, feeling a little sorry for Mao Jiu. But then he thought about it and realized that he had never caught fish by a stream either, so he went with Mao Jiu to the water’s edge.
Su Yu took out the Dragongallbladder Bright Silver Spear, rolled up his pant legs, and looked at Mao Jiu. "Little Jiu, wait here. I’ll catch the fish."
"No, no, I want to go too."
As she spoke, Mao Jiu took off her shoes and stepped directly into the water. She was wearing a short skirt, so she did not need to roll anything up.
Su Yu smiled, took out another Dragongallbladder Bright Silver Spear, and handed it to Mao Jiu. "Here, use this to spear the fish."
Mao Jiu accepted the spear with a smile, and the two bent down to look for fish. Su Yu did not scan with his divine sense, instead searching with only his eyes. Before long, both of them spotted fish. Su Yu struck once and speared a large fish, while Mao Jiu missed.
Su Yu smiled at the sight. Mao Jiu possessed knowledge that surpassed even the greatest scientists, but she did not understand the refraction of water. The thought made Su Yu want to laugh.
Seeing Su Yu laugh at her, Mao Jiu refused to accept defeat and immediately looked for another fish. She thrust her spear again, yet missed once more. This left her puzzled. She had clearly aimed at it, so why had the fish changed positions when she thrust the spear down?
Mao Jiu was not foolish and immediately realized something was wrong. When she stuck the spear into the water, she saw that it appeared bent. She instantly understood what was happening, and finally speared a fish. Proudly, Mao Jiu waved the fish on her spear at Su Yu.
Su Yu immediately bent down, put his hand into the water, and splashed it toward Mao Jiu.
"Ah, Brother Su Yu! Hmph!" Mao Jiu immediately bent down and splashed water back at him.
The two kept splashing each other, yet neither found it boring. Once they were both tired, Su Yu immediately steamed his clothes dry. Mao Jiu could not do that, so she could only look at Su Yu.
Su Yu smiled and waved his hand, drying Mao Jiu’s clothes as well. Then they went ashore with two fish. They had spent an hour in the water and caught only two fish, but neither of them felt dissatisfied.
Su Yu started a fire, then ran a stick through a fish. Mao Jiu immediately picked up a stick and copied Su Yu.
The two held their fish over the fire to grill them. Before long, the scent of fish and the smell of something burnt reached their noses.
Mao Jiu looked at her pitch-black fish and chuckled. Su Yu burst out laughing, took out some cumin and sprinkled it over his fish, then handed it to Mao Jiu. "Here, eat mine. See how it tastes."
"Mm-hmm, let’s have half each. We should throw this one away." As she spoke, Mao Jiu was about to toss away her burnt fish.
Su Yu immediately snatched it away and said with a smile, "I’ve let you taste my cooking, so you should let me taste yours too."
Mao Jiu immediately tried to snatch it back. "No, no, it’s burnt. I’ll give you one later, when I grill one that isn’t burnt."
Su Yu smiled and shook his head. "It won’t mean anything if you give it to me later."
As he spoke, Su Yu sprinkled on some cumin and began eating it without caring about the blackened parts of the fish. It was all going into his stomach anyway.
Mao Jiu’s little face reddened as she began taking small bites of the fish Su Yu had grilled.
Su Yu quickly finished his fish. Mao Jiu asked softly, "Was it awful?"
Su Yu smiled and shook his head. "How could it be? This was the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten."
"Don’t lie to me. It was obviously burnt. Brother Su Yu, are you full? I’ll give you some more." Mao Jiu said, her little face flushed red.
As she spoke, Mao Jiu held out the grilled fish in her hand. It still bore the marks of her bites. Su Yu smiled and said, "No need. Eat it yourself. Don’t let yourself go hungry. If it isn’t enough, I’ll catch another one for you."
"It’s enough, it’s enough…" Mao Jiu said hurriedly.
Su Yu nodded, then watched Mao Jiu take tiny bites of her grilled fish. He could not help smiling. Mao Jiu did not look at Su Yu again and continued eating her fish.
Before long, Mao Jiu finished the grilled fish bite by bite. Seeing that she clearly did not look full, Su Yu smiled and reached out to pat her head. "Little Jiu, if you’re not full, I’ll catch you another fish."
Mao Jiu smiled. "No, I’m full. Mm, full."
Su Yu stood and walked into the stream. He took out the Dragongallbladder Bright Silver Spear and began catching fish again. Mao Jiu watched him, her eyes filled entirely with his figure.
Su Yu soon brought back another fish and grilled it for Mao Jiu. Mao Jiu stared at him without even blinking. After Su Yu finished grilling the fish and turned around, their eyes met.
Mao Jiu immediately lowered her head shyly. Su Yu smiled and handed her the grilled fish. "Here, take it. I know you weren’t full. If you aren’t full in the future, just say so. It’s not like I can’t afford a few fish."
Mao Jiu took the grilled fish and nodded obediently. She tore off a large piece of meat and handed it to Su Yu. "Brother Su Yu, have some. I can’t eat this much."
Su Yu smiled and accepted the piece of fish Mao Jiu offered him. It was the best part of the fish. Warmth filled his heart, and he ate together with Mao Jiu.
After the two finished lunch, they went into the dense forest to search for prey.
Finding animals here was as easy as finding a human in a first-tier city on Earth. Su Yu and Mao Jiu had not even taken more than a few steps before they encountered animals. Mao Jiu fought them, quickly driving them away.
From the time she began practicing swordsmanship until now, Mao Jiu had never killed a living creature. Su Yu had never made her kill one either. He could handle such matters himself. A sky stained with blood and corpses strewn across the land were not things a girl should face. Much less the girl he liked. The girl he liked only needed to be pure and adorable.
