Capture

At that thought, the mysterious man aimed his sniper rifle at Wade’s calf, preparing to wound him. Just then, a pair of hands burst out from the dirt beneath him and dragged his entire body underground, leaving only his head exposed.

"What’s going on?"

The mysterious man was both shocked and enraged. He tried to struggle, only to discover that the surrounding soil had solidified again. He could not move at all.

Then, a figure emerged from the ground and sneered. "You think someone like you can come cause trouble for us?"

The mysterious man froze, then asked, "That security supervisor was bait?"

"Correct. It was his idea."

The Tunneling Guard laughed. "You’d better behave later. Our supervisor isn’t quite right in the head. No one knows what he might do to you."

Wade’s dissatisfied voice came from behind him. "Hey, Tunneling, are you tired of living? You’re slandering me behind my back?"

The Tunneling Guard shrugged without turning around. "I’m not behind you. You’re behind me."

Wade rolled his eyes. He walked over to the mysterious man with several guards, bent down, and asked, "Talk. Who sent you? Of course, you can refuse, but then I’ll take you apart piece by piece."

"No one sent me."

The mysterious man, Cable, said coldly, "My target is Fire Fist. Hand Fire Fist over to me, and I’ll leave immediately."

"Fire Fist? Did the church send you to silence him?"

Wade snorted. "I really hate that brat, but I hate frauds like you even more. Red-Eyes, you’re finished. I’ll deal with you properly."

The Tunneling Guard sneered from the side. "Everyone knows Fire Fist is Wade’s son. Trying to kill him is practically suicide."

Wade paused, then snapped, "What nonsense? How could I have such a grown-up son?"

"Boss, you don’t need to hide it anymore. If he weren’t your son, you’d have killed him long ago."

The Tunneling Guard wore an expression that said he understood. "Don’t worry. We’ll keep it from sis-in-law."

"Should I be thanking you? Please, I’m white and he’s Asian, okay?"

Wade was speechless. At that moment, Cable said, "That Fire Fist will become a great demon in the future. He’ll burn many people to death. You shouldn’t keep him alive."

"Wow, a great demon."

Wade gave an exaggerated cry, then disguised his hand as a microphone and held it in front of Cable. "Let me interview you. How do you know he’ll become a great demon in the future? Did you travel back from the future as a Terminator? If so, please tell me the next lottery numbers. I happen to have an investment project that needs money."

Cable was speechless. I really did travel back from the future, but would you believe me if I told you?

Cable sighed. "Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much?"

Wade smiled brightly. "I’m just too enthusiastic. They all call me Enthusiastic Wade."

"I mean you talk too much nonsense."

Cable suddenly gave a cold smile. Wade’s expression changed, and he immediately kicked toward Cable. At that moment, the ground exploded with a boom, dirt spraying everywhere as Wade and the others were all blasted away.

At the same time, Cable was blown into the air and spat out a mouthful of blood. He paid it no mind and landed on the ground with a bang.

Cable then drew the pistol at his waist, preparing to shoot the guards. Seeing this, Vomiting Boy’s eyes turned completely black, and Cable opened his mouth and began vomiting repeatedly.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Wade pulled out his gun and fired at Cable. Cable raised his metal arm, and a pale yellow defensive shield appeared, blocking every bullet.

"Damn, high tech."

Wade cursed and fired at Cable’s feet. Cable lowered the shield, then placed his gun above it and prepared to fire.

At that moment, the Blood Guard raised his hand, and large amounts of blood simultaneously gushed from Cable’s wounds. Cable screamed in pain.

While Cable was distracted, the Tunneling Guard, who had gone underground earlier, grabbed his feet and pulled him down with all his strength.

Just then, electricity suddenly flashed from Cable’s pants. The Tunneling Guard screamed and had no choice but to retreat underground.

"These guys are too troublesome."

Cable cursed inwardly. After hesitating for a moment, he took out a flat bomb from his waist and threw it at Wade and the others. The instant it left his hand, he leaped backward with all his strength.

"Bomb!"

Wade shouted, and everyone hurriedly scattered. The next moment, the bomb exploded with a boom, dirt flying everywhere and the air shaking. Wade and the others were left dizzy, their ears ringing.

When Wade pushed away the dirt and climbed to his feet, he saw that Cable had already escaped on a motorcycle. He cursed and picked up his communicator. "I screwed up here. Activate Plan B."

The guards were stunned. "Wade, what’s Plan B?"

Wade cursed, "Plan B means get your asses out here and chase that guy! Also, give the communicator to Clairvoyant and have him keep an eye on that guy."

"Understood."

The guards immediately nodded. Soon, several off-road vehicles charged out of the Recycling Plant and rapidly pursued Cable.

"That guy has high tech. We probably won’t catch him."

Wade looked toward another hill and muttered, "Now I just hope Juggernaut succeeds."

Let’s turn back time a little. While Wade was dealing with Cable, Juggernaut led his people to block the group of Cloaked Men on the mountain.

"I hate sneaky bastards like you the most."

Juggernaut stared at the Cloaked Men and said coldly, "Take off your cloaks, and I’ll spare your lives."

"Mutant Juggernaut."

The Cloaked Men had clearly gathered information beforehand. Their leader, Captain, snorted. "You think you can kill us?"

"Why do all of you love talking so much nonsense?"

Juggernaut could not be bothered to say more. He launched into a charging sprint with a series of booming steps. Captain froze, then shouted, "Fire! Shoot him dead!"

More than a dozen Cloaked Men simultaneously drew pistols and fired at Juggernaut. Juggernaut did not even bother to dodge. The bullets either bounced back or lodged in his muscles, unable to harm him at all.

Before the Cloaked Men could do anything else, Juggernaut charged into their midst. His immense momentum erupted into a Shockwave, sending all of them flying backward and crashing hard to the ground. At the same time, their guns flew from their hands and clattered away nearby.

This was Juggernaut. Once he got moving, nothing could stop him.

"That felt great. It’s been a long time since I hit someone at full strength."

Juggernaut laughed heartily. Against those prisoners, he could only use half his strength. It had been suffocating.

Vine York, one of the guards, frowned and said, "Juggernaut, Wade said to leave survivors."

Juggernaut’s smile froze, and he cursed, "Why didn’t you say so earlier? It’s all your fault. I’m docking your pay when we get back."

"Sorry, that’s not your decision."

Vine York shrugged and sneered. Juggernaut was only a high-level enforcer. He did not have the authority.

Juggernaut was very dissatisfied with York’s attitude and was about to lose his temper when another guard shouted, "Juggernaut, careful! They’re not dead yet!"

"Not dead?"

Juggernaut abruptly turned around and saw the dozen Cloaked Men climbing to their feet one after another. He shouted in disbelief, "That’s impossible! Anyone hit by me at full force would have their bones crushed even if they didn’t die. How can they get back up?"

"Because we aren’t human. We are believers of My God."

The Cloaked Men’s Captain took off his cloak. The Devil Mark on his face glowed faintly as the demonic power within his body repaired his injuries.

The others also removed their cloaks and shouted fanatically, "That’s right. We aren’t human."

"You’re not human? Perfect. Then I don’t need to talk to you about human rights."

Juggernaut was briefly stunned before bursting into laughter and charging toward the Cloaked Men again with booming footsteps.

The Cloaked Men’s Captain snorted and took an eyeball from his chest, throwing it at Juggernaut. The eyeball seemed eerily alive as it branded itself onto Juggernaut’s face. Juggernaut abruptly stopped, clutching his face and screaming in agony.

This was the Greed Eye that Greed had bestowed upon the Cloaked Men’s Captain. It would inhabit others and drain their life force. It was extremely sinister.

"Juggernaut!"

Seeing this, Vine York immediately led the other guards forward to help. The Cloaked Men’s Captain gave a disdainful smile and led the Cloaked Men to intercept them.

"Get lost!"

Any mutant capable of joining the Security Team had some skills. Vine York shouted, his arms transforming into vines that wrapped around several Cloaked Men’s feet and violently flung them to the ground.

Another guard clapped his hands hard. At once, thunderous booms rang beside every Cloaked Man’s ears. The sound was so deafening that they became dizzy and disoriented, allowing the guards to knock them down one after another.

"Damn mutants."

The Cloaked Men’s Captain quickly recovered and raised his hand to block the Stone Fist Guard’s attacks. The Stone Fist Guard threw more than ten punches in succession without bringing him down, and he was secretly shocked. Where had these people come from? Their physiques were clearly stronger than ordinary humans’.

At that moment, an angry roar came from Juggernaut’s direction. Everyone turned and saw Juggernaut forcibly gouge out the flesh from his face along with the Greed Eye, his entire face covered in blood.

"You filthy bastard, you’re dead."

Juggernaut crushed the eyeball in his hand and roared furiously at the Cloaked Men’s Captain. Seeing his savage eyes, the Captain could not help but shudder. This guy was truly insane.

Seeing Juggernaut about to charge, the Cloaked Men’s Captain hurriedly threw a specially made smoke bomb at the ground. A huge amount of smoke immediately billowed out, obscuring all visibility. Worse still, the smoke was mixed with tear gas, making the guards bend over and cough violently.

The Cloaked Men took the opportunity to flee toward a jeep nearby—they had covered their noses and mouths in time, avoiding the irritation. In addition, they could vaguely see the jeep.

"Damn it!"

Juggernaut was furious. Though he could not see, he could hear the sound of an engine starting. He charged toward the source with booming steps. The next moment, a jeep was struck with a tremendous crash and violently sent flying, rolling repeatedly across the ground.

"Go! Ignore them!"

The Cloaked Men’s Captain shouted. The jeep suddenly sped away. Juggernaut wanted to chase it, but Vine York called out, "Juggernaut, don’t chase them. Go check whether there are any surviving Cloaked Men over there."

"Fine."

Juggernaut nodded and ran toward the overturned jeep. Just then, a Cloaked Man lying on the ground with blood all over his head pulled out a lighter and shouted fanatically, "My God is immortal!"

Then, the Cloaked Man threw the lit lighter at the spot where the jeep was leaking fuel. Flames erupted with a whoosh and quickly spread toward the fuel tank.

"Damn!"

Juggernaut hurriedly backed away. The next moment, the fuel tank exploded with a thunderous boom. Fire and shockwaves blasted in every direction, even knocking Juggernaut to the ground.

"These people aren’t normal. They’re like fanatics."

Vine York stared at the burning jeep and said grimly, "I have a bad feeling about this."

"Damn it! Don’t let me find them, or I’ll tear them to pieces."

Juggernaut slammed his fist into the ground, creating a large crater with a boom. Vine York glanced at him and said, "Let’s get you to the Medical Room first. You’re ruthless enough to tear off your own face."

With so many prisoners held in the Recycling Plant, a Medical Room was naturally standard equipment.

Juggernaut said indifferently, "It’s fine. I have some healing ability. It’s nowhere near that animal Wolverine’s, but I’ll recover in a few days."

"That’s good."

Vine York nodded. After thinking for a moment, he took out his communicator and reported the matter to Wade. Wade cursed and said, "Both places failed? York, take people and clean up the mess. I’ll head back to the city and report this to the BOSS, then get chewed out while I’m at it."

"Alright. Whoever came after us means business. Things are probably going to get interesting."

York said. Wade laughed. "Isn’t that a good thing? How are we supposed to get bonuses without enemies?"

In Manhattan, inside Rebirth Tower, which Rebirth Group had purchased at great expense, Wang Bert was watching the news with Yuriko and Psylocke—a report about a protest march.

"As you can see, Firefighters and their families are protesting in front of City Hall."

The reporter pointed toward the marchers and said, "A week ago, they were Firefighters with secure livelihoods. But because of Human Torch, they have all lost their jobs. They are deeply dissatisfied and believe this is extremely unfair."

"This is extremely unfair! I strongly demand that the government ban mutants from working, or our today will become your tomorrow."

"That’s right! If this continues, mutants will take all our jobs."

Two Firefighters came over and shouted loudly. Psylocke cursed in annoyance, "Human Torch and his agency are all idiots."

Yuriko said, "They’re too greedy. They shouldn’t have gone so far."

"Someone is clearly pushing this from behind the scenes."

Wang Bert sneered. "Psylocke, prepare your statement. The reporters will definitely interview you."

"I’ll get it ready. Now I just hope Human Torch doesn’t say anything stupid. BOSS, should we warn him?"

"With New York reporters moving this fast, our warning is probably already too late."

Wang Bert switched to New York TV Station. Their reporter was interviewing Human Torch, who said arrogantly, "What’s wrong with Firefighters being phased out? With me around, there’s no need for those Firefighters. I can handle everything by myself. Besides, protesting is something weak people do."

"That idiot."

Psylocke wanted nothing more than to chop John to death with a blade. Wang Bert and Yuriko also shook their heads. This was what it meant to add fuel to the fire.

"This is only the first wave."

Wang Bert said, "Yuriko, do we have any companies under us with positions suitable for Firefighters?"

Yuriko replied, "If they’re willing to change careers, there are plenty of jobs. We’ve acquired quite a few companies recently."

"Have Human Resources make a plan and invite the Firefighters to join Rebirth Group."

Wang Bert nodded. Psylocke reminded him, "BOSS, that only treats the symptoms, not the root cause."
