Chapter 104: Divine Sense Awakens
The Rifts in the Outer Realm space exist because countless eons of battle have brought this place to the brink of collapse. If the Cultivation Alliance didn't reinforce it with great Spells every so often, it would have long ago collapsed and turned into the Void Realm.
Those spatial Rifts connect to a Star Sea, which can be described as boundless, filled with tyrannical energy and countless mysterious creatures.
There have been people who entered the spatial Rifts and came back out, but those Nascent Soul Transformation stage experts usually shifted out immediately upon entering. This process was only possible because the terrifying suction force within the Rift had not yet fully activated.
The terrifying aspect of the spatial Rifts in the Outer Realm Battlefield is precisely that suction force, which causes even Nascent Soul Transformation stage experts to pale. Under the influence of that suction, even the Spiritual Power within one's body can be forcibly sucked out, let alone attempting escape.
That is only one factor. Another is that no one knows exactly where those spatial Rifts lead. They only know from the experts who managed to shift out that the interior of the Rift is total darkness, where nothing can be seen clearly, and Divine Sense is completely confined within the body, unable to be released.
At this moment, within the spatial Rift, a speck of light suddenly appeared, slowly drifting in the Void Realm. Looking closely, one could see a cluster of Soul Fire faintly flickering inside the speck of light.
Time passed slowly, and after an unknown period, the speck of light continued to drift in the nothingness, and that cluster of Soul Fire gradually showed signs of dissipating.
The years flashed by in an instant. The speck of light completely dimmed, and the cluster of Soul Fire inside was reduced to mere embers.
On this day, a massive shadow suddenly drifted toward the speck of light from afar. Upon closer inspection, that shadow was revealed to be an enormous corpse.
This corpse looked similar to a member of the Giant Demon Race, but upon closer inspection, it could be seen that the imprint on the corpse's forehead was not a hammer, but an axe.
A black axe!
If a member of the Giant Demon Race were here, they would immediately recognize that this axe represents that the person was the Ancestral Demon of the Giant Demon Race, or perhaps, an Ancient Demon Race member.
The moment it made contact with the speck of light, a wisp of smoke suddenly dispersed from the corpse, transforming in mid-air into a phantom creature with two horns on its head. The creature stared greedily at the speck of light, moved its body, and pounced toward it.
This creature is a mysterious species unique to the spatial Rifts. It devours all matter, whether it be corpses, Magic Treasures, or Souls.
The instant its entire body lunged toward the speck of light, it suddenly screamed, trying to struggle and escape, but in barely a flash, its body was immediately sucked into the speck of light and vanished without a trace, leaving only its massive body floating motionless in mid-air.
After absorbing the creature, the speck of light gradually brightened, and the cluster of Soul Fire inside also grew slightly more vigorous.
At this moment, Wang Lin awoke.
To be precise, his Soul awoke.
The moment he awoke, he had no consciousness, only a cluster of Soul Fire, and a very "cold" sensation transmitted from Wang Lin's Divine Sense.
At this time, within his Divine Sense, he sensed a large source of fire nearby. Although this fire source emitted waves of wicked Qi, Wang Lin did not hesitate and pounced toward it.
The speck of light instantly darted into the forehead of the giant's corpse and slowly settled down.
Enveloped by a substance that could be called Demonic Fire, Wang Lin's Divine Sense gradually lost the cold sensation and slowly returned to peace. Time slowly passed again, this time even longer than before. Throughout these lengthy years, the corpse housing Wang Lin continued to drift slowly in the nothingness.
Perhaps because Wang Lin's Divine Sense was residing there, countless smoke-like creatures materialized around them, swarming in like moths to a flame to devour him. But in the end, every single one was absorbed by Wang Lin; his Divine Sense grew stronger and stronger, and his Soul Fire became increasingly vigorous.
The more this happened, the more creatures emerged from the nothingness, frantically rushing toward him. Wang Lin didn't know that in the eyes of those creatures, the corpse housing Wang Lin was like a massive luminous body, exceptionally bright in this dark world.
Wang Lin didn't know exactly how much time had passed. Ever since he woke up, he had been in a state of confusion. He only remembered having devoured countless creatures, and with every one he consumed, he felt his Divine Sense become clearer.
Finally, one day, Wang Lin recalled the scene of his birth, the sixteen years he spent living with his parents, the days at Hengyue School… and finally, he remembered Teng Huayuan.
A surge of sorrow rippled through his Divine Sense. In an instant, he understood everything: Situ Nan had risked his life to save him at the last moment and brought him into the Outer Realm Battlefield, arriving at the spatial Rift.
The moment they entered the spatial Rift, the Heaven Defying Bead suddenly underwent a strange change. To be precise, it vanished without a trace.
But Wang Lin could clearly sense that the Heaven Defying Bead had not disappeared; rather, it had merged into Wang Lin's Soul in a way he could not understand. It could even be said that the Heaven Defying Bead had melted and fused with Wang Lin's Soul.
It was precisely because of this that he was able to devour those powerful mysterious species one by one.
Situ Nan had not died, but had fallen into eternal slumber. The last thing he did before falling asleep was to wrap the Souls and Spirits of Wang Lin's parents within his Nascent Soul, plunging them into slumber together.
Wang Lin's parents were not Cultivators of the Dao, so it was impossible for them to be resurrected or undergo Possession. Wang Lin knew this; he simply wanted to keep their Souls and Spirits by his side, unwilling to let them Soul Flying Away and Spirit Scattering.
After he recovered all his memories, he discovered that his Divine Sense had become extremely vast. The giant's corpse seemed unable to bear the strain and began to collapse.
Having no choice, Wang Lin's Divine Sense moved, leaving the giant's corpse. The cold sensation reappeared, and he drifted in the nothingness, searching for the next corpse to inhabit.
This process continued for a long time. Every time Wang Lin found a corpse in the nothingness, he would inhabit it. Likewise, those mysterious species continued to rush toward him and were devoured by him.
His Divine Sense grew even stronger. Gradually, devouring those powerful species almost became a habit for Wang Lin. He slowly transitioned from passive consumption to active hunting.
Alternatively, Wang Lin had been here for too long—so long that he had searched through his memories countless times. He even conducted detailed analyses of every single thing he had done previously. When he finally finished the analyses and truly had nothing left to do, he suddenly remembered the Formation Book he had once obtained.
He immediately recalled the contents of the book and began continuous deduction. By the time he had completely deduced all the basic Formations in the book, he once again fell into a state of having nothing to do.
Over the countless years he spent here, Wang Lin saw the exit of the spatial Rift appear more than once, but his Divine Sense was too vast—so vast that he simply could not squeeze out of the tiny Rift.
However, he noticed that as his Divine Sense continuously grew stronger, although he couldn't squeeze out of the narrow gap, each collision would cause signs of collapse in the Rift. However, this collision could only be sustained for one or two times before the Rift automatically vanished.
One or two collisions were not enough to collapse the Rift. Wang Lin knew this was because his Divine Sense Body was still not vast enough. Thus, in order to impact the Rift, Wang Lin began a frenzy of devouring.
He completely abandoned the idea of finding a corpse to inhabit. Instead, he moved rapidly through this boundless nothingness, rushing forward to directly devour the mysterious substances whenever he found them.
This life continued for a long time. Whenever he discovered a Rift, he would attempt to collide with it. The signs of collapse grew heavier and heavier, and Wang Lin knew that if he persisted, the day would come when he could shatter the Rift with just two collisions.
But as time passed, Wang Lin discovered that the mysterious species in the nothingness seemed to have completely vanished. No matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find a single one.
Therefore, he expanded his search radius. Suddenly, one day, a Divine Sense Body comparable to Wang Lin's own encountered him. This was the first time Wang Lin had discovered a Divine Sense roughly similar to his own.
"You have crossed the boundary!" a vague voice entered Wang Lin's Divine Sense.
Wang Lin was startled and immediately transmitted a thread of Divine Sense in the same manner.
How can I leave this place?
"Leave? Why would you leave? It's impossible to leave here…" The other party transmitted its Divine Sense, then slowly retreated and vanished.
Wang Lin remained silent for a moment. From the other party's words, he discerned a hint of meaning: there should be several Divine Sense Bodies similar to him within this spatial Rift, perhaps even more powerful Divine Senses.
There likely existed territories between them, and crossing a boundary would highly likely lead to a fierce battle—a fight to the death involving devouring.
After this unexpected encounter, Wang Lin changed direction. As a result, he discovered three Divine Sense Bodies around him that were as vast as his own. Through communication, Wang Lin learned that with his current strength, he could not shatter the spatial Rift in one or two attempts.
However, Wang Lin's determination to return was extremely firm. After a long period of silence, he thought of a crazy plan. On this day, he fully spread out his Divine Sense, quickly covering his entire territory. The wider his Divine Sense spread, the more intense the fluctuations became.
Wang Lin closely observed every location within the range of his Divine Sense fluctuations. Suddenly, a minuscule spatial Rift appeared at one spot. Wang Lin didn't hesitate; his Divine Sense immediately probed into it. The moment it entered, he decisively severed that thread of Divine Sense. The Divine Sense successfully entered the spatial Rift, and as the Rift vanished, that thread of Divine Sense lost all connection.
Wang Lin showed no emotional fluctuation and continued waiting for the appearance of the next Rift.
(There will be another chapter this afternoon. Everyone, rest assured, I won't write about Wang Lin's vast Divine Sense dissipating completely before he returns. That would be too frustrating. The answer will be revealed in the next chapter.)
