Chapter 115: Pissed Himself in Terror

Zhou Huai wore a faint smile on his face as he looked at Ye Zhentian.

"Uncle Ye, if you take a look at Lu Qi's current state yourself, won't everything become clear?"

As Zhou Huai's voice fell, countless gazes inside the banquet hall swept in unison like searchlights, focusing on the figure at the main table.

Lu Qi, who was stuffing cake into his mouth, suddenly froze in place.

He raised his head and saw that everyone in the room was staring at him, the expression on his face instantly turning helpless and flustered.

The food stuffed bulgingly in his mouth made him look both comical and pathetic.

Liu Yuru slammed her wine glass onto the table with a loud 'crack', abruptly standing up as her sharp voice pierced the brief silence.

"Stop spouting nonsense here!"

She pointed at Zhou Huai, her eyes filled with malice.

"Qi'er just finished participating in the National Examination, and his spirit is a bit withered, that's all!"

"In my eyes, you just can't bear to see Ye Xi marry Lu Qi, and you deliberately came out to cause trouble!"

Ye Zhentian also looked at Zhou Huai, his expression sinking.

"Zhou Huai, I know that you and Xi'er have had a good relationship since childhood."

"Now that you've run out, I can treat it as youthful impulsiveness and not hold it against you."

"Retreat immediately, or else I can only have someone escort you out."

Zhou Huai shook his head, his gaze passing over him to look at the tear-stained young girl in the center of the dance floor.

"Uncle Ye, do you really want to marry Xi'er off to an idiot?"

"If you do that, Xi'er's future will truly be ruined."

He withdrew his gaze, slowly turning his wheelchair to face all the guests at the banquet.

"Presumably, everyone present might not yet know what actually happened during this year's National Examination."

"Someone colluded with the Dawnbreaker Guild and launched an attack during the National Examination!"

"It nearly caused the most outstanding examinees from various provinces to be wiped out in one net by the people of the Dawnbreaker Guild!"

"And the person who colluded with the Dawnbreaker Guild…"

Zhou Huai's voice paused, every single word exceptionally clear.

"It's Lu Qi!"

"Shut your mouth!"

Liu Yuru flew into a rage, her voice shrill.

"Don't slander people here!"

Before her voice finished, Ye Xi suddenly rushed out, blocking in front of Zhou Huai.

"That's right! Everything Brother Zhou Huai said is true!"

The young girl's voice was clear and bright, carrying a sob, yet exceptionally firm.

"I saw it with my own eyes! It was Lu Qi! I can prove it!"

Zhou Huai added another sentence.

"Presumably, everyone should have received news some time ago that the military department once sent people to the Zhou Family, taking away quite a few people."

These words were like a pebble cast into a calm lake surface.

Inside the banquet hall, discussions instantly broke out.

"Such a huge incident actually happened during the National Examination?"

"My god, this is a heaven-shaking piece of gossip!"

"Does that mean the matter of the Zhou Family being investigated by the military department some time ago is true? I thought it was just a rumor."

"Who would have thought that a birthday banquet could actually serve up such juicy gossip."

Zhou Feng's face turned ashen; he stood up, his voice ice-cold.

"Utter nonsense!"

"If Lu Qi truly colluded with the Dawnbreaker Guild, could we still be standing here safe and sound?"

Zhou Huai chuckled softly.

"Isn't that thanks to you having a good wife."

"I have to admit, the influence of the Liu Family of the Imperial Capital is indeed massive."

Zhou Feng's expression stagnated.

Zhou Huai ignored him no longer and shifted the topic.

"To get back to the point. During the National Examination, Zuo Daolin of the Dawnbreaker Guild possessed Lu Qi's body."

"When he subsequently detached from Lu Qi's body, it damaged his Soul."

"Lu Qi's Soul is currently damaged, and his mental level won't exceed five years old."

"Tell me, if he's not an idiot, what is he?"

Zhou Feng and Liu Yuru's hearts suddenly sank.

The two exchanged a glance, both seeing unmaskable horror in each other's eyes.

The matter of Lu Qi's Soul being damaged—they had never mentioned it to anyone.

This Zhou Huai, why did he know about it so clearly?

Ye Zhentian also calmed down at this moment.

He truly wanted to latch onto the Zhou Family, or rather, the massive ship of the Liu Family behind the Zhou Family.

But letting him marry his daughter off to an idiot was a completely different matter.

His sharp gaze locked onto Zhou Huai once again.

"Is what you said true?"

Zhou Huai pointed at Lu Qi.

"If you don't believe it, you can ask him yourself."

"Isn't he sitting right over there?"

"Swish!"

Everyone's gazes once again converged onto Lu Qi.

Lu Qi lowered his head; no one could see his expression clearly.

But sharp-eyed people could all discover that his body had already begun to tremble uncontrollably.

Liu Yuru hurried over to Lu Qi's side, pulled his hand, lowered her voice, and placated him in a tone only the two of them could hear.

"Don't be afraid, Qi'er. Don't say a word next; leave everything to Mom."

Lu Qi lowered his head and softly let out an "Mn."

Only then did Liu Yuru stand up, straighten her lapels, and recover that arrogant demeanor on her face.

She walked up in front of Ye Zhentian, her voice calm.

"Clan Chief Ye, Lu Qi did indeed make some mistakes during the National Examination."

"Yet he did not collude with the Dawnbreaker Guild; rather, he was utilized by them."

"I admit that Qi'er's spirit indeed has some problems right now."

"However, we have already found the best psychological treatment Great Master in the country to treat him, and I believe it won't be long before he fully recovers."

After she finished speaking, her gaze looked directly at Ye Zhentian, her tone neither humble nor arrogant.

"Today was originally a day of great joy, and we don't want to make things too ugly either."

"The two children getting engaged, our two families forming an even closer bond—this is a good thing."

"But if you'd rather listen to the one-sided words of this trash Zhou Huai now, then our Zhou Family has no other choice."

She paused, a cold sneer hooking the corners of her mouth.

"If worst comes to worst, the marriage between our two families, the Zhou and the Ye, will be cancelled right here."

"It's our family's Lu Qi who is unworthy of your Ye Family's daughter."

This move of advancing by retreating was played extremely brilliantly.

Ye Zhentian's expression immediately softened.

He hurriedly waved his hand, piling smiles back onto his face.

"What is Madam Zhou saying?"

"Naturally, I wouldn't listen to Zhou Huai's biased words."

"I assure you, the engagement between Xi'er and worthy nephew Lu Qi remains valid."

"Once worthy nephew Lu Qi's spirit recovers somewhat, we will find an auspicious day and let them get married. How about that?"

Zhou Huai's brows furrowed.

He had actually underestimated the methods of this woman Liu Yuru.

He underestimated Ye Zhentian's thick skin even more.

Lu Qi is already like this, and you're still desperately sucking up to them?

Was your family's ancestral grave dug up by Zhou Feng, or did they witness you committing murder?

Zhou Huai sighed inwardly.

It seems he can only resort to another move.

Right when Liu Yuru and Ye Zhentian were chatting happily and the atmosphere was gradually easing up…

At the main table, that head-lowered Lu Qi suddenly felt a chill on his ankle.

A cold and gloomy aura crept upward along his trouser legs.

He curiously lowered his head and looked under the table.

With just a single glance, the blood throughout his entire body seemed to freeze.

I saw that within the shadow beneath his feet, at some unknown point, a pale and bloated human face had slowly emerged.

That face was facing right at him, revealing an extremely creepy smile.

A pair of pitch-black, sharp-nailed claws had already silently crawled up onto his ankle, tightening bit by bit!

"Ghost… Ghost!"

A shrill, pitch-broken scream suddenly burst out from Lu Qi's mouth.

Frightened out of his wits, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, he bounced up sharply from his seat.

Using both hands and feet, scrambling in panic, he rushed in front of Liu Yuru and tightly hugged her thigh.

"Mom! There's a ghost! There's a ghost under the table!"

Tears and snot streamed down his face, his voice filled with boundless terror.

"I'm so scared! Mom! I'm so scared!"

While crying out, he shook violently.

A warm liquid flowed down his trouser legs, quickly soaking a large dark patch on the expensive carpet.

A pungent, foul urine smell permeated through the air.

He had actually been scared to the point of pissing himself.
