Chapter 124: Catering to His Preferences (1)

"Difficult, extremely difficult." Pharmacist Zuo sighed. "Unless the treasure gifted meets Pharmacist Leng's wishes, a person as eccentric and proud as him will never agree to save someone."

"Even an imperial edict from His Majesty wouldn't work?" Su Luo frowned. Was an Alchemist's status truly that high?

"Yes, even an imperial edict can't move him. After all, Pharmacist Leng is currently one of only three High-level Alchemists in the Dongling Kingdom." Pharmacist Zuo stroked his beard, his eyes full of envy.

Because Alchemists were so incredibly rare, the imperial family valued them immensely and granted them a very high degree of freedom.

It could be said that if an Alchemist wanted to serve the Empire, they only needed to register. High positions, generous salaries, mountains of gold and silver, beautiful women, fiefdoms—as long as their requests didn't threaten the Empire's security, they could have practically anything they wanted.

From this, one could see just how transcendent an Alchemist's status was on the continent.

Su Luo stood up, cast a silent glance at Nangong Liu, and turned to Ling Feng. "It seems I'll have to visit the Leng Manor personally. I'll leave Nangong in your care."

Ling Feng's brow furrowed. "Even Steward Xu couldn't invite him; what could you possibly do? I'll go instead!" He turned to leave.

If a polite invitation didn't work, wasn't there always force? Others might fear offending Leng Yan, but Ling Feng did not!

Su Luo stopped him, her expression calm and her tone even more resolute. "Trust me, only I can invite him."

After saying that, she spoke to Pharmacist Zuo. "I hope Pharmacist Zuo can lead the way. Time is of the essence; please, Pharmacist Zuo."

Pharmacist Zuo was also genuinely curious about what method this young girl had, to boast so confidently that she could bring Pharmacist Leng here. So, he readily agreed.

Although Ling Feng didn't quite agree, he didn't stop Su Luo. After all, this was a glimmer of hope.

If Su Luo still couldn't bring him in the end, he would risk his life and kidnap Leng Yan if necessary. Who cares if he's some damn High-level Alchemist!

The Leng Manor was located in a secluded spot in the west of the city, near the Southern Mountains. It was sparsely populated, with a quiet and elegant environment.

Getting off the carriage, Su Luo couldn't help but frown slightly at the scene before her.

There was a wide open space in front of the Leng Manor's gate, but now many people were kneeling there. It was a dense, dark mass; at a rough count, there were over a hundred of them.

Even more surprising was that so many people kneeling on the ground didn't make even the slightest sound. Each one was like a sculpture in a temple—motionless, silent, like wooden stakes.

At that moment, the vermilion gates opened with a creak. A fair-skinned, middle-aged man dressed in brocade robes, who clearly lived a life of luxury, stepped out. With his hands clasped behind his back, he paced out arrogantly, his critical gaze scrutinizing the kneeling crowd.

Every time he passed in front of someone, that person would most respectfully and humbly hold up a tray with both hands. On those red-lacquered trays lay the precious gifts they had brought.

Some were rare medicinal herbs, some were medical manuscripts, and some were pearls, jade, and crystal stones. The only thing they had in common was that none of them were ordinary.

However, this Steward Leng's gaze was as cold as his surname. Arrogant and picky, he walked straight through three rows without taking a fancy to a single thing.

Wherever he passed, those people could not hide the disappointment in their eyes.

If Steward Leng didn't show satisfaction, it meant they had no chance… Steward Leng paced slowly, sneering nonchalantly, "Trash, all trash! You dare bring this garbage to fool my master? Heh, let me tell you, no chance! Hurry up and get lost, all of you!"
