Chapter 1553: Dominating the Inner Realm – A Saying from Several Hundred Years Ago
Senior Brother Dun Tian of the Soul Refining Sect, several days prior, had a slight premonition when Wang Lin, standing by the window, unconsciously waved his hand and pointed. In that instant when the heavens thundered, and the wind and rain ceased, he expended a great deal of Lifespan and vitality, performing nine consecutive calculations and deductions.
He sought the future of the Soul Refining Sect, to find a path to the heavens for the Soul Refining Sect!
Nine deductions, nine calculations, yet he arrived at a conclusion that he found utterly absurd. He didn't believe it the first time, but after nine consecutive times, each yielding the same result, he couldn't help but believe it.
All those deductions pointed to the State of Zhao, to a county town within the State of Zhao, and to a scholar within that county town!
So, he came, bringing his expectations and that absurd feeling. He searched continuously for several days within this county town, looking through almost all the scholars, but in the end, he still didn't receive any satisfactory answers.
Those scholars were merely Mortals; how could they answer his questions? With the middle-aged man's cultivation, let alone the State of Zhao, even the entire Vermilion Bird Star would consider him among the strong. Nascent Soul Transformation, Nascent Soul Transformation, he could reach Soul Transformation in a single step!
The middle-aged man rolled up his sleeves, and a black wind howled, with endless resentful souls snarling within, enveloping Wang Lin and Da Fu, seemingly splitting the world apart into a blur.
Da Fu continued to snore loudly, his snores echoing, seemingly out of place. Wang Lin turned around and looked at the man walking from the distant, pitch-black world.
The other party was an Immortal; Wang Lin understood this, yet he felt no fear or dread. Strangely, in his eyes, this middle-aged man seemed powerful, but in reality, he was extremely insignificant.
Wang Lin himself couldn't explain why, but ever since the thunderous rainy night several days ago, after that voice that continuously echoed in his mind appeared, some peculiar changes had occurred in him.
This change was in his thoughts, an inexpressible enlightenment, especially after just writing the imperial examination question, writing that question about the Karma of heaven and earth!
Calmly looking at the approaching middle-aged man, Wang Lin's expression was normal as he slowly spoke.
"Speak."
The middle-aged man let out a soft
But the other party's calm expression and composed demeanor made the middle-aged man see something extraordinary. All the scholars he had encountered before, upon seeing him, would almost collapse. That kind of fear and terror required him to cast a Spell to calm them slightly before they could speak tremblingly.
Wang Lin was the first person he had met who was so composed.
In fact, 'composed' couldn't even fully describe it. The middle-aged man felt as if the other party simply didn't care about his appearance, didn't treat him as an Immortal at all, but rather as a Mortal.
One must know that with his cultivation, even Mortal emperors would be terrified and tremble upon seeing him, respectfully worshipping him as if he were an ancestor. The invisible pressure emanating from him was something Mortals could never resist. Even Cultivators would be directly suppressed into awe and fear.
Such a situation as Wang Lin's, this middle-aged man had only encountered twice in his life, but those two times, the Mortals he saw were great Confucian scholars who had appeared on the Vermilion Bird Star over the past few hundred years.
These great Confucian scholars understood the heavens and earth, perceived creation, and possessed astonishing scholarship, imbued with a grand righteous Qi that feared neither ghosts nor gods. Although even a mere Qi Refining Cultivator could kill such a great Confucian, the higher one's cultivation, the more one could sense the aura on them that was similar to that of a Cultivator.
If such a person were to cultivate the Dao, it would be utterly natural.
Wang Lin was the third person who gave him this feeling. After a moment of silence, the middle-aged man clasped his fists and bowed to Wang Lin.
"This old man is Nian Tian, Sect Master of the Soul Refining Sect."
"One thought, Nian Tian. The word 'Nian' encompasses all phenomena. A good name." Wang Lin smiled slightly, clasping his fists in return to the middle-aged man. The aura of a contemporary great Confucian grew increasingly strong around him. Faintly, the howling black wind and resentful souls around them all retreated, not daring to approach even half a step. Even the shrill roars slowly weakened until they completely dissipated.
This scene made the middle-aged man even more surprised. He took a deep breath, his eyes revealing a hopeful glint. He vaguely felt that the answer he sought might very well come from this person. His nine deductions most likely pointed to this person!
"This old man wishes to ask, does my Soul Refining Sect have a path to the heavens! I hope the scholar can resolve this old man's century-long confusion!" Nian Tian's expression showed sincerity as he bowed to Wang Lin once more.
The Legacy of his School was of great importance. To ask a mere Mortal was inherently an extremely strange matter, even for Nian Tian himself. However, he could not disbelieve the nine deductions. Fortunately, Wang Lin's extraordinary nature gave him a glimmer of hope. He looked at Wang Lin, awaiting his reply.
Hearing this question, Wang Lin was startled and fell silent.
"I cannot answer." After a long time, Wang Lin shook his head. He had no idea what the Soul Refining Sect was, only vaguely guessing it was an Immortal School.
The middle-aged man didn't speak. After a while, a bitter expression appeared on his face. He sighed inwardly as he shook his head, looking up at the sky. He felt that his actions this time were truly irrational, to actually ask a Mortal about the Legacy of a School.
"This old man has disturbed you. You are a contemporary scholar, and this old man will not erase your memory. Alas." The middle-aged man smiled bitterly, flicked his sleeve, and turned to leave, filled with dejection and confusion.
Wang Lin watched his desolate back. He could vaguely feel an invisible mountain pressing down on the other party, making the old man appear even more forlorn beneath it.
"Take me to see the Soul Refining Sect." Wang Lin recalled his dreams of the past few days, and the voice that echoed in his mind several days ago, and spoke calmly.
The middle-aged man, who was about to leave, paused. He turned and his gaze fell on Wang Lin. After a long moment, he nodded gravely, raised his right hand, and pointed at Wang Lin. Immediately, black wind howled from all directions, directly condensing around Wang Lin's body, lifting him into the sky. He and the old man then stepped forward together, vanishing without a trace.
Within the county town, no one noticed the Spell outside the examination hall. Even the black wind that had just appeared was beyond the sight of Mortals. Under the large tree outside the examination hall, Da Fu's snores continued. He turned over, mumbled, and fell asleep again.
On the Vermilion Bird Star, at the location of the Soul Refining Sect, high in the distant sky, Wang Lin's face was pale, but his expression was extremely calm. Black wind permeated around his body, supporting him so he could stand steadily in the sky.
Beside him was Nian Tian.
"Here is the mountain gate of my Soul Refining Sect." Nian Tian pointed his right hand towards the Soul Refining Sect below. Immediately, a roar echoed, and the countless black mists shrouding the Soul Refining Sect dispersed, revealing the entire interior of the Soul Refining Sect to Wang Lin's eyes.
Wang Lin looked at the Soul Refining Sect below, and a familiar feeling gently arose from the bottom of his heart. Everything here felt as if he had seen it in a dream, but when he tried to recall it carefully, there was no trace of memory.
"I want to walk around…" After a long while, Wang Lin spoke softly.
"Good." Nian Tian didn't hesitate. He swayed his body with Wang Lin, shielding him from the fierce wind, and landed inside the Soul Refining Sect. There were many Cultivators on the various peaks of the Soul Refining Sect. The opening of the mountain gate immediately alerted these Cultivators, who came out one after another and saw Wang Lin and Nian Tian.
"Greetings, Sect Master."
Such greetings echoed. These Cultivators of the Soul Refining Sect all had strange expressions. They could see that Wang Lin was merely a Mortal, but they did not understand why the Sect Master would bring a Mortal here.
Wang Lin's eyes showed confusion as he walked within the Soul Refining Sect. Everything around him felt familiar. He even seemed to know about the dangers in some places beforehand. This feeling grew deeper and deeper as he continued to walk.
Wang Lin stopped at the foot of a mountain. There were many Immortal Caves on the mountain, faintly visible from below. The feeling of familiarity here was even stronger, as if he had once lived there, or at some unknown time.
Nian Tian always followed behind Wang Lin, accompanying him as he walked through the Soul Refining Sect. His eyes revealed a strange light as he continuously observed Wang Lin. Most of the day slowly passed, and Wang Lin finally arrived at the main peak of the Soul Refining Sect!
Looking at the main peak, black mist encircled it like rings, spiraling upwards to the sky, a rather magnificent sight.
The sky was gradually darkening. Wang Lin looked at the main peak. Although the familiar feeling persisted, it felt as if something was missing. After a long time, he sighed and shook his head, just about to speak.
Suddenly, a roar came from within the main peak. A black figure appeared in the mist at the top of the mountain, taking a single step towards Wang Lin and Nian Tian.
"Senior Brother, who is this person?" As a沧桑 voice came, the black figure approached. He was also a middle-aged man, and his gaze swept over Wang Lin.
"Dun Tian, this person is a scholar I invited. You are currently in the process of Fusion with the Banner Spirit; do not be distracted. Go into seclusion quickly." Nian Tian's eyes showed gratification as he slowly spoke.
Dun Tian smiled slightly. In his eyes, Wang Lin was merely a Mortal. Although he glanced at him, he didn't take him to heart at all. He turned and took a step, disappearing between heaven and earth.
Although he acted this way, the moment Wang Lin saw Dun Tian, his mind immediately roared. He seemed to vaguely remember something, and his whole body trembled. Looking at Dun Tian's departing figure, two lines of tears unknowingly fell from the corners of his eyes.
Just then, a white bird flew across the sky above the Soul Refining Sect's mountain gate, circling with cries.
"Soul Refining Sect, several hundred years later, on the same day you pass away, a person will come here. He is the path to the heavens for your Soul Refining Sect!"
Wang Lin murmured, looking at Dun Tian's back, and his tears increased.
Nian Tian's body trembled. He looked at Wang Lin for a long time, then clasped his fists and bowed. He didn't entirely believe it, but he kept it in his heart. He never spoke of this to Dun Tian in his lifetime. Instead, one day several hundred years later, feeling his end approaching, in his dying moments, the words of that unforgettable scholar from several hundred years ago surfaced in his mind.
