Chapter 22: Chuanxiao Sect Mountain Gate
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue said with disdain: "Who is like you, wanting to hunt these low-level Yao Beasts! We are here to clear out the Demonic Path following Senior Sister Huang Doudou of the Inner Sect."
Tang Waner gave Lin Mo a shy smile. The two were old friends, and she used a veil to cover her birthmark, giving people a hazy sense of beauty.
Senior Sister Huang Doudou also showed goodwill: "Junior Brother Lin, since you are already here, why don't you do missions with us? Everyone is bravely venturing into the Demonic Sect, and we can look out for each other."
Lin Mo pondered for a moment. To be honest, he actually wanted to do missions with Senior Sister Huang Doudou. Having an Inner Sect Disciple would greatly reduce the risk factor of the mission, and he could also harvest a large number of contribution points.
But he still had another task on hand, so he said hesitatingly: "Senior Sister, I've also accepted a mission to eradicate wolf demons. How about Senior Sister waits for me for an hour? After I hunt enough wolf demons, we can set off together?"
Senior Sister Huang Doudou was about to nod. She had a pretty good impression of Junior Brother Lin Mo, who had also coincidentally helped her find a forbidden book in the Scripture Pavilion. If the Sect Elders found out, she would inevitably be punished.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue waved her hand magnanimously: "Aren't they just a few wolf demons? Let's go, I'll go with you. We don't need an hour; we can resolve the battle in half an hour."
Lin Mo glanced at Senior Sister Huang Doudou and saw her gently nod.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue and Lin Mo set off. Halfway there, Senior Sister Leng Hanyue gave a wicked smile and said: "Junior Brother, your Senior Sister is personally stepping in to help you eradicate the wolf demons! I can't do it for free, right?"
Lin Mo cursed internally, knowing that Senior Sister Leng Hanyue wouldn't be so kind-hearted.
He said defensively: "Senior Sister? What are you planning to do? You're not going to borrow Spirit Stones again, are you?"
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue waved her hand: "No, no. Is your Senior Sister the kind of person who loves borrowing Spirit Stones?"
Lin Mo nodded affirmatively.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue rolled her eyes: "Look at how stingy you are. I won't borrow Spirit Stones from you, but I can't help for nothing either. Just write off all our past accounts."
Lin Mo was almost on the verge of tears and said aggrievedly: "Great Master Senior Sister, that is nearly three years of my stipend! You're just going to waive it just like that?"
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue looked impatient: "What a hassle, so naggy, not like a real man at all. Waiving half of it should be fine, right?"
Lin Mo had no choice but to nod aggrievedly.
In fact, he knew very well in his heart that it didn't matter how much of this debt was waived, since Senior Sister Leng Hanyue wouldn't pay it back anyway.
Chatting along, the two walked to the place where wolf demons haunted.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue laughed out loud: "Watch Great Master Senior Sister's performance!"
Then, exerting strength in her legs, she leaped more than ten meters into the air and, as if squashing a fly, stomped a Yao Wolf to death with a thud.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue was like a tiger entering a flock of sheep, transforming into the Bai Qi of the Cultivator world. With a punch to the left and a kick to the right, every single strike took the life of a Yao Wolf.
Lin Mo watched from the side with boiling blood, making him want to swallow a vajra pill to have some fun too. Thinking about transforming into a Gorilla for an hour, he forcibly held back.
With Great Master Senior Sister taking action, the mere task of eradicating wolf demons was a piece of cake, and the required quantity was hunted in just a few minutes.
After collecting the internal cores of the wolf demons, the two returned the same way and rendezvoused with Senior Sister Huang Doudou and Tang Waner.
Lin Mo's heart thumped incessantly. This was his first time facing the Demonic Sect directly, and he wondered what the Demonic Sect was like. Did all those Cultivators have bloody mouths wide open? Could they eat children just by opening their mouths?
He asked curiously: "Senior Sister Huang Doudou, what kind of School is the Chuanxiao Sect we are infiltrating? I heard that the Demonic Path is extremely ferocious, and once they capture Cultivators, they refine them into Myriad Soul Banners."
Senior Sister Huang Doudou pondered and said: "Junior Brother Lin, that kind of extremely ferocious Demonic Sect does exist, but as for the Chuanxiao Sect we are infiltrating this time, we haven't heard any news of them harming people so far."
Tang Waner looked puzzled: "Senior Sister, since they haven't harmed anyone, why are they still considered the Demonic Path?"
"I heard it from an Elder too. It is said that the Chuanxiao Sect has cheated everyone from three-year-old children to centenarians. Under the guise of seeking immortality, these people scam Spirit Stones everywhere," Senior Sister Huang Doudou explained.
Senior Sister Leng Hanyue murmured in a voice only she could hear: "Damn it, they can actually scam so many Spirit Stones, why can't I?!"
She angrily clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth: "Damnable Demonic Sect scoundrels, everyone has the right to execute them! I, Senior Sister Leng Hanyue, will definitely teach them a proper lesson on how to behave!"
Lin Mo looked at Senior Sister Leng Hanyue with contempt. This fellow must be green with envy and jealousy!
…
The group of four arrived at a dilapidated hilltop. Jagged rocks stood everywhere, vegetation was withered, and Spiritual Qi was depleted.
Lin Mo seriously doubted whether one could really cultivate immortality in this place. Life on the Demonic Path must be a bit too miserable, right?
A little Taoist boy in black at the entrance stepped forward, cupped his hands in a bow, and said: "Are you several also drawn by the great fame of the Chuanxiao Sect and coming to join our Sect?"
Lin Mo hid behind the others. Just in case a fight broke out, as an Outer Sect Disciple, it would be easier for him to run away.
Senior Sister Huang Doudou took out Mazhen's waist token and said: "We have received the invitation of this Fellow Daoist to come and join the Chuanxiao Sect."
Seeing the token, the little Taoist boy didn't even verify it before showing a disappointed expression.
He said listlessly: "Since that is the case, please follow me."
He turned around and pushed open a crooked wooden door behind him that was almost integrated with the mountain. A mixture of damp moldy odor, aged dust, and a faint sour sweat smell rushed toward them. Behind the door was not the imagined Sect Main Hall, but a pitch-black cave entrance.
"This way." The little Taoist boy produced a fluorite emitting a faint green light and crawled in first.
Lin Mo and the others looked at each other and followed inside.
This so-called "passage" was less of a cave and more the result of a mountain fissure being reluctantly widened. The cave walls were rough and ferocious, covered with sharp protrusions and damp moss. The ground underfoot was uneven, and in some places, they even had to turn sideways to pass through.
The air was terribly stuffy, carrying a hint of earthy odor and an indescribable chill. The light from the inferior fluorite in the little Taoist boy's hand was dim and dusky, only able to illuminate a tiny patch of ground beneath their feet, while deeper inside was an unshakeable, thick darkness.
On both sides of the cave walls, one could occasionally see some abandoned, long-extinguished torch remains or a few rotted wooden boards, emitting a damp and unpleasant smell.
The end of the cave — The Chuanxiao Sect "station".
After walking around in twists and turns for about the time it takes to burn an incense stick, the front suddenly opened up, and the light became much brighter. However, the scene that came into view left Lin Mo and the others completely dumbfounded.
This was a huge, naturally formed karst cave with a high-hanging ceiling where some dim, lusterless stalactites hung upside down. This was the "core area" of the Chuanxiao Sect.
Dilapidated "facilities": Inside the cave, some crude shanties or "cubicles" enclosed with tattered cloth and linoleum were haphazardly built, looking on the verge of collapse.
The so-called "Sect Main Hall" was just a slightly leveled area. In the center sat an armless and legless, paint-peeling offering table, upon which rested a cracked, dilapidated incense burner overflowing with ash. Stuck inside were a few uneven, crookedly burned inferior joss sticks.
