Chapter 246: Magic Treasure
The shop Wang Lin rented was not on the main street but in a relatively remote area; it would be hard to find without actively searching. However, Wang Lin did not mind. After a night of meditation, the Red Mist outside his body condensed slightly again.
In the early morning, Wang Lin opened the shop door and, like a Mortal, tidied the interior. After pondering for a moment, his body flashed, and he disappeared inside the shop.
When he returned, his Storage Pouch already contained many large trees he had pulled up by the roots.
He stripped the bark from these trees and used tools to carve them into wooden blocks. Wang Lin recalled his childhood memories of his father personally teaching him how to make wood carvings.
These memories gradually surfaced in his mind. Wang Lin remained silent for a long time, then grabbed a wooden block with his left hand and lightly waved it. The block instantly split into ten sections. Wang Lin picked up one section, and a Carving Knife appeared in his right hand seemingly out of nowhere. Just like his father had done back then, he began carving stroke by stroke.
Gradually, through the carving, Wang Lin vaguely rediscovered the familial affection that had been lost for four hundred years. It was as if, with every stroke of the knife, he returned to his childhood, back to the Small Mountain Village where he had lived for so long.
At this moment, the Spiritual Energy within Wang Lin suddenly started circulating, flowing along the Carving Knife in his hand and gradually merging into the wood carving, sinking deeper and deeper.
Time flew by rapidly. It wasn't until night fell again that Wang Lin suddenly awoke. He looked at the wooden section in his hand, which had now become a wood carving—the carving of a middle-aged man with a kind smile.
The man wore coarse cloth clothes, and his hands, in particular, were covered in fine, rough lines.
Although the wood carving was slightly rough, it seemed to possess spirituality, and waves of Spiritual Energy diffused from it. Wang Lin stared blankly at the carving, a surge of sadness welling up in his heart.
He gently stroked the wood carving with his right hand and murmured to himself, "Father, your child misses you. I miss you dearly…"
After a long silence, Wang Lin placed the wood carving aside, picked up another section of wood, and completely immersed himself in carving stroke by stroke.
The weather grew cooler. Staying awake for a day and a night was nothing to Wang Lin; when he was hunted down back then, he often fled for several days and nights.
The moment the first sun rose, the wood carving in Wang Lin's hand took shape again. This time, it was a middle-aged woman, her face filled with motherly love, her eyes looking into the distance, seemingly waiting for her child to return.
Placing the two wood carvings together, Wang Lin took a deep breath, picked up another section of wood, and resumed carving.
Time flowed slowly. Wang Lin's carving never stopped; he would only meditate briefly when he felt extremely tired.
In the blink of an eye, a month passed. Compared to a month prior, the goods in Wang Lin's shop gradually increased. On the wall cabinets surrounding the shop, rows of lifelike wood carvings were displayed—male and female, old and young, in various poses.
The figures in these wood carvings were all residents of the mountain village where Wang Lin used to live. At this moment, Wang Lin had resurrected these people in an alternative way.
Throughout this month, not a single customer visited Wang Lin's shop, but Wang Lin did not mind. He was immersed in carving, having even stopped his Cultivation.
On this day, Wang Lin held a half-finished wood carving. For some unknown reason, this carving emitted a Primordial Aura. If a Cultivator from the Cultivation Devil Sea saw the object carved, they would immediately recognize it: a Flood Dragon!
This Flood Dragon was the first Spirit Beast Wang Lin encountered when he and Li Muwan were in the Cultivation Devil Sea.
While he was carving, a wind chime rang. The shop door was pushed open, and a sturdy, lively boy cautiously peeked inside.
The boy was startled when he saw Wang Lin, but he was quickly captivated by the countless wood carvings around him. He exclaimed in surprise, "Uncle, did you carve all these? They're so beautiful! Can I have one?"
Wang Lin gave a quiet smile, put down the Flood Dragon wood carving, and casually picked up another one nearby. This carving depicted a person, someone Wang Lin was extremely familiar with—Wang Hao.
The boy in front of him bore quite a resemblance to Wang Hao from back then.
After receiving the wood carving, the boy immediately cheered, holding it carefully. He said crisply to Wang Lin, "Thank you, Uncle. I'm from the ironware shop across the street. Goodbye." With that, he quickly ran out of the shop, shouting loudly, "Dad, Mom, look! Uncle gave this to me."
Wang Lin stood up and walked to the doorway. Across the street, a man and a woman emerged from a shop. They looked at the boy affectionately. When the boy's father took the carving, his eyes immediately lit up. He looked up at Wang Lin, hesitated slightly, and then approached with the carving, saying, "The child is naughty. Young Man, how much is this thing?"
Wang Lin shook his head and said, "It was just a piece of wood I gave him."
The boy's father hesitated, glanced at Wang Lin, and smiled, "You must be new here, I haven't seen you before."
Wang Lin nodded with a smile.
The boy's father laughed heartily and said, "Young Man, if you don't mind, come over and have a meal. I have some homemade Fruit Wine here; it's much better than what the restaurants serve."
An indescribable emotion arose in Wang Lin's heart—an emotion he hadn't felt in four hundred years. After a moment of hesitation, Wang Lin nodded.
The boy's mother was a kind woman. Although she wasn't old, her temperament was very gentle. From the small details, it was clear that this was a happy family.
The child was well-behaved, and the couple was loving.
Inside the ironware shop, there was a square table set with a few home-cooked dishes. Even though Wang Lin had already achieved Bigu, he still picked up his chopsticks and ate a few bites.
Drinking the Fruit Wine the host was so proud of and eating the long-missed home-cooked food, Wang Lin's state of mind became even more peaceful than when he was with the caravan. The Spiritual Energy inside his body flowed rapidly at an unprecedented speed.
This wine was indeed excellent, with an endless aftertaste.
Since that day, something indispensable was added to Wang Lin's life: the Fruit Wine. The boy came to Wang Lin almost every day to watch him carve wood, and each time he came, he brought a pot of Fruit Wine.
Wood carvings gradually accumulated in Wang Lin's shop. A large portion of them depicted beasts; he had carved almost every Yao Beast he had seen over the past four hundred years. However, no matter how Wang Lin carved, those High Grade Spirit Beasts and Desolate Beasts could never take shape.
Every one of these carvings contained immense condensed Spiritual Energy. Mortals could not perceive this, but if an Immortal Practitioner came here, they would immediately be terrified.
Because the Spiritual Energy suppression emanating from them was almost comparable to that of some low-grade Magic Treasures, and the spiritual might of some wood carvings was even comparable to Mid Grade Magic Treasures.
How could these be mere wood carvings? They were clearly Cultivation Magic Treasures, turning decay into wonder, crafted from rotten wood!
One must be honest. Lying in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep, I felt uneasy. I got up and wrote another two thousand characters, finally breathing a sigh of relief. Alright, now I can sleep. So sleepy…
