Chapter 252: A Good Omen
Beiming County, Lunar New Year's Eve.
After Chen Mo and his parents finished visiting relatives, they returned home.
His parents were in the kitchen making dumplings.
Chen Mo sat in the living room and began a plan he had been plotting for a long time.
He took out his phone, opened his messaging app, and entered a work group chat.
This group was created by him before the holiday; it was filled with the leadership teams from various companies, and he had been waiting for this very moment.
After thinking for a moment, he edited a digital red envelope for 200 yuan, split into 50 shares, and sent it out.
Soon, people started claiming the red envelopes.
Wei Yan claimed a red envelope… Li Shen claimed a red envelope… Wu Yu claimed a red envelope… …
Seeing so many people claiming the red envelopes, Chen Mo smiled slightly.
"Since you've taken my red envelope, it wouldn't be too much to send one back, right?"
Not long after, his phone suddenly rang.
Wei Yan transferred 10,000 yuan to you, with the message: "Happy New Year, President Chen. Wishing you a prosperous career in the new year."
Fang Chang transferred 10,000 yuan to you, with the message: "Happy New Year, President Chen. A new year brings a new atmosphere; may your career take flight."
Wu Yu transferred 10,000 yuan to you, with the message: "Happy New Year, President Chen. Wishing you even greater success in the new year."
Shen Rou transferred 10,000 yuan to you, with the message: "Happy New Year, President Chen! (Fireworks)" …
Looking at the transfer records one by one, Chen Mo nodded with satisfaction. Regardless, these employees were quite savvy; basically everyone at the manager level had transferred him 10,000 yuan.
This was something he hadn't expected. He wondered if they had discussed it privately.
Looking at the stream of transfer records, Chen Mo did a quick calculation. This time, he had received over 160,000 yuan in New Year red envelopes.
A 200-yuan red envelope had been exchanged for 160,000; it was quite a good deal, and it had already exceeded the amounts he received from his previous system settlements.
At this moment, his personal funds had already surpassed 300,000 yuan.
He was actually looking forward to the next Spring Festival; this was much easier than relying on system settlements.
It would be better if there weren't those congratulatory messages attached to the transfers.
However, considering the transfers, he would forgive them.
Chen Mo thought to himself, then put his phone away.
His parents were still in the kitchen making dumplings, the television in the living room had started playing the New Year's Gala, and the sound of firecrackers popping came from outside the window.
It was Chinese New Year!
"Come on, the dumplings are ready. Eat them while they're hot."
After some time had passed, his parents each brought out two plates of dumplings and placed them on the dining table.
Hearing this, Chen Mo walked over.
"Eat quickly, let's see who gets the coin this year."
His mother set down the bowls and chopsticks and urged him.
Putting coins in dumplings during the New Year had been a local tradition for many years. Whoever ate a dumpling with a coin inside would be blessed with good luck, a smooth career, and prosperity in the coming year.
Chen Mo looked at the four plates of dumplings on the table and thought to himself that it would be better for him to eat fewer dumplings.
Good luck? He didn't need it. He would prefer it if all his businesses lost money in the new year.
Even those two popular games—it would be better if they suddenly stopped being popular.
"Eat up, they won't taste good if they get mushy."
His mother pushed a plate of dumplings toward him.
Looking at the dumplings in front of him, Chen Mo casually picked one up and started eating.
But just as he took the first bite, his teeth hit something hard.
Oh no!
Chen Mo's heart sank. There was only one reason something would hurt his teeth: he had eaten a dumpling with a coin in it.
He chewed gently a couple of times, and then spat a coin onto the tabletop.
"You found the coin on the very first dumpling? It looks like my son will have great luck and make a fortune this year!"
His mother, Yang Xiulian, looked at the coin on the table, her face full of surprise and joy.
These past few days while out buying groceries, neighbors had frequently approached her to talk about her son—some offering praise, others trying to set him up on dates—all because her son had driven a car back home.
Now that her son had found the coin in his very first dumpling, it was definitely a good omen; his career this year would surely be even smoother.
Chen Mo stared blankly at the coin on the table, muttering inwardly.
It won't come true, it won't come true…
After all, every family made dumplings with coins during the holidays, and among the many people who ate them, very few had become rich overnight.
It didn't mean anything that he had found it.
Chen Mo silently comforted himself, then picked up a second dumpling and started eating. Since he had already found the coin, there was no point in being superstitious; he might as well just eat until he was full.
The New Year's Eve dinner ended quickly.
On the first day of the New Year, after Chen Mo and his father set off a string of firecrackers downstairs, they returned upstairs.
His mother was preparing food in the room, and his father went to help out.
He was left alone in the living room again, but not long after, there was a knock at the door.
Chen Mo walked to the door and opened it.
"Big Brother, Sister-in-law, why are you here?"
Looking at his big brother, Li Zhengqi, and his sister-in-law, Song Qing, standing at the door, Chen Mo asked in surprise.
"Your sister-in-law and I came over to thank you."
Big brother Li Zhengqi said, handing over the gifts he had bought.
"Thank me for what?" Chen Mo asked, feeling puzzled.
"It's about Song Xia. Song Xia came home the day before yesterday. She's earning over 10,000 a month now; we really have to thank you for that."
"Even though Song Xia is a university graduate, based on her abilities, I don't believe she could earn a salary of over 10,000 right after starting work. You must have helped her with this."
"Thank you so much." Song Qing looked at Chen Mo and said earnestly.
Ever since Song Xia lost money running the milk tea shop, her family had been very worried. Song Xia had even hidden away at her place, afraid of her parents scolding her.
But thanks to the job Chen Mo had arranged, Song Xia had stabilized. How could she not be grateful?
Hearing Song Qing's words, Chen Mo understood instantly. So, they had come to thank him for that.
However, the salary he was paying Song Xia was more than 10,000. It seemed Song Xia must have concealed a portion of her salary.
That made sense; if the salary were too high, it would arouse suspicion from her family. He didn't want his family to find out about the money-losing coffee shop yet.
After thinking this through, Chen Mo looked up at his big brother and sister-in-law. "Come inside quickly, it's cold out here." He hurriedly welcomed them into the house.
"Aunt, Happy New Year. Uncle, Happy New Year." As Li Zhengqi and his wife entered, they happened to run into Yang Xiulian and Chen Jingrui coming out of the kitchen.
"Happy New Year. Have you two eaten yet?" Yang Xiulian looked at the two who had just entered and greeted them warmly.
"Not yet. We just started making it at home, we'll eat when we go back," Li Zhengqi said.
"Why go back to eat? I've just finished preparing the food here; you should just eat here." As Yang Xiulian spoke, she pulled Li Zhengqi toward the dining table.
After some polite refusal, Li Zhengqi and Song Qing were ultimately persuaded to stay.
While eating, his mother, Yang Xiulian, who already knew the reason for Li Zhengqi and Song Qing's visit, hurriedly urged him.
"Chen Mo, since Song Xia is working at your company, make sure to look after her."
"I know," Chen Mo nodded.
He thought to himself, if you knew that Song Xia was now the general manager of a company, you would know how much I'm looking after her—even if it is a company that has been consistently losing money.
