Chapter 28: Stealing Data (Part 1)

After entering the Library, the two of them silently passed through rows of bookshelves and finally found the iconic computer.

Lin Fan stood before the computer, skillfully operating the keyboard, inputting a string of complex commands.

The cursor on the screen flickered, displaying an encrypted System interface.

"I need a little time," Lin Fan's voice was devoid of any fluctuation, "You go check the surroundings."

Carl nodded slightly, standing at the entrance and vigilantly observing the outside, his eyes flashing with tension and alertness.

He knew that once Lin Fan touched this computer, the subsequent operation had to begin immediately, without any room for error.

Lin Fan's fingertips danced on the keyboard. With a flash on the screen, he successfully accessed the internal network of the Galactic Federation University.

Next, he began downloading the data; Lin Fan took out a portable storage device that he had prepared in advance.

With the help of a level 4 civilization quantum phone, after just a few seconds of hacking, Lin Fan successfully broke through the System's defenses.

The confidential data was downloading rapidly. 1%, 2%…

Suddenly, a rush of footsteps came from outside, getting closer and closer. Carl's face instantly became grave. He knew that time waits for no one.

"Carl, keep an eye on the entrance," Lin Fan instructed in a low voice, his tone revealing a hint of tension.

Carl turned abruptly, standing vigilantly at the entrance, his gaze as cold as a knife, ready to handle any unexpected situation at any moment.

At this moment, a crisp voice sounded from behind, carrying a tone of helplessness.

"You are students from the sports department, right? Please excuse me. I need to go in."

Carl was slightly stunned and turned his head to look at the person who had arrived.

The girl in front of him was wearing the Galactic Federation University student uniform. The white shirt clung to her body, outlining the abundant curves of her chest.

The dark blue short skirt perfectly wrapped around her slender waist and rounded hips, with curves that were soft and moving.

Beneath the hem of the skirt was a pair of long, straight legs, paired with simple white socks, looking youthful and playful.

The girl had delicate features, and her large eyes held curiosity and a hint of confusion; clearly, she did not understand why Carl was blocking the door.

She was holding a few books and tilted her body slightly, as if waiting for them to make way.

Carl was speechless for a moment. He quickly scanned her surroundings, and after confirming there were no other threats, he said softly:

"Someone is inside for the moment; it's not very convenient."

The girl blinked, seemingly not fully understanding what he meant, but she didn't show much suspicion either.

She just took a small step forward and said politely but firmly: "But this is the Library, classmates. If you don't move aside, how am I supposed to go in and study?"

Lin Fan also heard the voice at this time, slightly raising his head and moving his gaze away from the screen.

His gaze swept over the girl at the door, a flash of vigilance in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Carl, let her in," Lin Fan said in a low voice, his tone calm and steady; clearly, he didn't want to attract unnecessary attention.

Carl hesitated slightly, but still slowly moved to the side, clearing the way for the girl.

The girl nodded slightly, wearing a polite smile, and walked in with light footsteps, her books held to her chest, completely unaware of the unusual atmosphere between Lin Fan and Carl.

The progress of the data download Advanced slowly; the progress bar on the screen flickered: 3%… 4%… Time seemed exceptionally long.

The girl stood to one side, holding her books, and her clear voice sounded again: "Classmate, what are you looking up? Are you very busy?"

Lin Fan didn't even raise his head, his eyes fixed on the screen, his tone calm and undisturbed: "Yeah, there are quite a few books to look up; it will still take some time."

The girl smiled slightly, her tone sweet with a hint of playfulness: "My name is Jiang Xingyu, I'm a student at Galactic Federation University. What about you? I haven't seen you before."

Lin Fan paused for a second, pretending to be nonchalant as he replied: "Lin Fan, just transferred here."

Jiang Xingyu tilted her head slightly, her smile bright: "No wonder I haven't seen you. Which department are you from? Computer Science? You type so fast."

Lin Fan nodded and continued to focus on the screen. The progress bar jumped to 6%.

"Oh, that's great!" Jiang Xingyu showed a happy expression, her tone filled with a bit of excitement, "I happen to have a question I want to ask you!"

Lin Fan's heart tightened, and he tried his best to stay calm: "What question?"

Jiang Xingyu stepped closer while holding her books, her voice clear, sweet, and gentle: "There is too much material in this Library, and I can never find the location of the books. Can you help me look it up?"

Lin Fan calmly glanced at the books in her hand: "What do you want to look up?"

Jiang Xingyu lowered her head to think for a moment, then said in a light tone: "Materials related to Classical Mechanics."

Lin Fan was slightly stunned, unable to help but feel a hint of doubt in his heart: Classical Mechanics?

In a top-tier institution like Galactic Federation University, there is actually someone looking up Classical Mechanics?

And in this huge Library, almost no one comes to visit, yet this one person actually wants to look up such basic content?

Despite the doubt in his heart, Lin Fan remained calm on the surface, his fingertips lightly tapping the keyboard, pretending to operate it skillfully:

"Classical Mechanics… hmm, I'll help you find the location of the relevant books."

The progress bar on the screen jumped to 8%. The download was still slow, but Lin Fan had to temporarily divert some of his attention.

He could not show any abnormality; after all, his current identity is that of an ordinary student.

Jiang Xingyu bent over and leaned in to look at the screen, her clear eyes full of curiosity:

"Your operation is really amazing. Are all Computer Science students this good?"

The corner of Lin Fan's mouth twitched slightly, revealing a faint smile: "Not really, just practice more."

The progress bar quietly jumped to 10%, and Jiang Xingyu was still standing on the side with great interest, clearly not noticing Lin Fan's unusual behavior.

"Here," Lin Fan pointed to the book list on the screen and said patiently,

"The relevant books on Classical Mechanics are all on the twelfth row of bookshelves in the East District. You can find them by the serial number."

Jiang Xingyu smiled sweetly and gave Lin Fan a thumbs up: "Thank you! You are truly amazing."

Lin Fan nodded and watched her turn and leave, feeling a slight sense of relief in his heart.

But at the same time, he vaguely felt that something was wrong in his mind: Could this Jiang Xingyu really just be an ordinary student?

While paying attention to the progress of the download, 15%… 16%… Lin Fan glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw Jiang Xingyu carrying a few books towards the bookshelf, putting the original books back one by one.

Not long after, she walked back to Lin Fan's side carrying a thick stack of books, with a relaxed smile on her face.

"Thank you, classmate."

Jiang Xingyu was panting slightly, seemingly tired from carrying the books, but her tone was full of gratitude,

"If it weren't for your help, I'm afraid it would have taken me a long time to find them."

Lin Fan remained calm and said softly: "You're welcome, it was no trouble at all."

Jiang Xingyu tilted her head and looked at him, a smile rising on the corner of her mouth: "You are a really nice person."

After saying this, she walked away slowly with her books, her steps light, looking as if she had completed an important task.

However, when she walked to the door, she seemed to suddenly remember something, stopped, and turned to look at Lin Fan.

"Classmate," Jiang Xingyu's voice was crisp but carried a hint of seriousness,

"Although I don't know your name, I want to say that learning things that are too Advanced is actually useless. If you have time, you should still look at the basics."
