Chapter 3: Choosing a Daughter-in-Law
"Dad, do I really have to get married and have children?"
Wu Ru-Long said with a troubled expression, somewhat reluctantly.
He had always been devoted to Cultivating Immortals and had never considered matters of love. If his father hadn't mentioned it, he probably wouldn't have even had such a thought.
Wu Hao, on the other hand, sighed, his tone filled with a hint of melancholy.
"Wu Ru-Long, do you know what your mother said when she left? She said she hoped that when she returned to the Wu Family, she would see a happy scene of a house full of children and grandchildren."
"And this vast Wu Family, with just the two of us, is a bit too empty. So, I want to hold my grandson, understand?"
Seeing his father's serious and earnest expression, Wu Ru-Long mumbled inwardly, 'You want a daughter-in-law, but where am I supposed to find one for you?'
But there was nothing he could do; he was a filial son, so he gritted his teeth and agreed.
"But Dad, where do I find a wife? Aren't we living deep in the mountains right now?"
Wu Ru-Long asked, somewhat bewildered, as if he had just thought of something.
Wu Hao was startled, only then remembering that they had been living in the same mountains for more than ten years. Back then, after learning that his Cultivation talent was extremely mediocre and he had no Golden Finger, he chose to live in seclusion in the mountains.
It was precisely because of this that he met his wife, Su Qiaoran, in these mountains.
Later, because he was determined to keep a low profile, he continued to live in seclusion in the mountains. In other words, the reason his son hadn't found a daughter-in-law was because he hadn't interacted with women?
Thinking of this, Wu Hao coughed and then said very seriously.
"Alright, if that's the case, then I, your father, will take you to visit the nearby city today. If you see any high-quality, excellent women you like, just tell me, and I'll go propose for you. Of course, not those with too powerful backgrounds."
Wu Hao reminded him later. Before he came into seclusion, he had some understanding of the outside world, so he knew that the most powerful City Lords in those cities were only at the Nascent Soul Stage. As long as he kept a low profile, it should be fine.
Hearing that he could go out, Wu Ru-Long's eyes immediately lit up. Eighteen years, eighteen years of staying here, he was already sick of it. If his father hadn't forbidden him from going out, he probably would have secretly snuck out to play long ago.
Now that he could finally go out, how could Wu Ru-Long not be happy?
"Let's go, we're heading to the city outside."
Wu Hao said, then walked out of the courtyard. Wu Ru-Long quickly followed.
In the Xuantian Realm, most land was ownerless, so after moving into seclusion in the mountains, Wu Hao had fenced off a large part of the area as a courtyard.
He didn't know if it was because Wu Hao was lucky or what, but no Yao Beasts had come to cause trouble all these years.
On the way, Wu Ru-Long was as excited as a child, looking left and touching right. Wu Hao didn't stop him. After all, Wu Ru-Long had stayed at home until he was eighteen, and his understanding of the Xuantian Realm was basically what his father had told him.
Soon after, led by Wu Hao, the two finally arrived at a nearby city. A plaque hung above the city, with the three large characters: Sunset City.
Pedestrians and Cultivators came and went at the city gate, presenting a bustling and prosperous scene.
It was the first time Wu Ru-Long had seen humans other than his father, and he immediately became excited, shouting.
"Dad, look, it's people!"
"Alright, alright, I know."
Wu Hao immediately felt several strange gazes from around them and, somewhat awkwardly, pulled back the excited Wu Ru-Long.
It was his fault; he should have brought Wu Ru-Long to Sunset City more often.
He rummaged through his Storage Ring. Although most of them were Top-Grade Spirit Stones, there were also quite a few Low-Grade Spirit Stones and Mid-Grade Spirit Stones. The rules of Sunset City were that Mortals needed to pay fifty coins as an entry fee.
Cultivators, on the other hand, needed to pay five Low-Grade Spirit Stones, so for Cultivators with lower Realms, free entry and exit from Sunset City was a problem.
After paying ten Low-Grade Spirit Stones, Wu Hao took Wu Ru-Long into Sunset City. This was Wu Hao's first time re-entering a human city in eighteen years.
Upon entering Sunset City, Wu Hao and Wu Ru-Long witnessed a magnificent city scene. There were vendors and pedestrians everywhere. Although most were Mortals, there were also many Cultivators, roughly two Cultivators for every ten people.
Looking at the scene before him, Wu Ru-Long was contemplating his next move when Wu Hao spoke.
"Let's go, first find an inn and get a room to rest. Finding a daughter-in-law isn't something that can be done in a short while."
After all, a daughter-in-law couldn't be chosen casually. She had to at least have a Foundation Establishment Stage Cultivation to become Wu Hao's daughter-in-law. Although it was harder for those with high Cultivation to bear children, it was easier for those with higher Cultivation to give birth to descendants with Spiritual Roots.
Regarding this, Wu Ru-Long naturally listened to his father. The father and son quickly arrived at an inn. To the innkeeper's shocked gaze, they took out twenty Mid-Grade Spirit Stones and booked two 'Heavenly' class private rooms.
In the inns of Sunset City, there were private rooms specifically for Cultivators, divided into four classes: Heaven, Earth, Black, and Yellow. A 'Yellow' class private room only cost one Low-Grade Spirit Stone to rent, but only for one day.
A 'Black' class private room cost ten Low-Grade Spirit Stones a day, an 'Earth' class private room fifty Low-Grade Spirit Stones a day, and a 'Heavenly' class private room one hundred Low-Grade Spirit Stones a day. Wu Hao and the others didn't know how long they would stay, so they temporarily rented for ten days.
Sitting on the bed in the 'Heavenly' class private room, Wu Hao waved his hand and summoned the innkeeper.
"Esteemed guest, may I ask what you need from me?"
The innkeeper looked at Wu Hao, his heart somewhat uneasy, as he asked. After all, Wu Hao could take out twenty Mid-Grade Spirit Stones for the room fee without batting an eye, not even needing change. If he wasn't foolish, he could tell that Wu Hao was no ordinary person.
Wu Hao pondered for a moment before asking.
"Innkeeper, this old man is visiting Sunset City for the first time, and my purpose is to find a wife for my son. Do you have any ideas? Don't worry, I only require her Cultivation to be at or above the Foundation Establishment Stage, and her Spiritual Root to be Medium Grade Spiritual Root or higher. Conditions are negotiable, and of course, her character must be acceptable."
"If you can suggest a suitable candidate, this Mid-Grade Spirit Stone will be your reward."
Hearing Wu Hao's words and seeing him take out another Mid-Grade Spirit Stone, the innkeeper's eyes immediately lit up.
He himself was a Cultivator, though his Cultivation was not high, barely reaching the Foundation Establishment Stage. Yet, he hadn't detected any aura from Wu Hao, which showed that Wu Hao's Cultivation was definitely above his. Combined with Wu Hao's casual act of using Mid-Grade Spirit Stones as a reward, it was likely Wu Hao's Cultivation had at least reached the Nascent Soul Stage.
Thinking of this, the innkeeper's heart immediately became uneasy, and he quickly waved his hand, refusing.
"It is my honor to serve Senior. Please take back the Spirit Stone!"
He was genuinely worried that if he accepted the Mid-Grade Spirit Stone, Wu Hao might kill him. So, for safety's sake, he absolutely couldn't accept it.
But Wu Hao immediately grew anxious, his face stern as he said.
"Innkeeper, if you don't accept my Spirit Stone, are you looking down on me?"
With that, a faint aura emanated from Wu Hao's body, instantly terrifying the innkeeper. In his perception, Wu Hao's aura was like a stormy sea, and he was but a small boat, liable to be capsized at any moment.
Thinking of this, how could the innkeeper dare to refuse? He quickly accepted the Mid-Grade Spirit Stone, then began to recount the identities and information of all the prominent young ladies in Sunset City.
PS: I sincerely apologize to all readers. Due to the author's oversight, I forgot that the author also has things like Low-Grade Spirit Stones. I'm very sorry. Furthermore, for the current protagonist, Top-Grade Spirit Stones and Low-Grade Spirit Stones are no different, as the protagonist doesn't use them himself, and his son won't use them all. Even if they were given to descendants, there would be no feedback. So, for the protagonist, giving Top-Grade Spirit Stones or Low-Grade Spirit Stones makes no difference, as the protagonist doesn't need them anyway.
However, the author didn't realize that many people considered this a flaw. It was the author's oversight, and it will be corrected later. Apologies.
