Chapter 312: The Lonely Hero
The withered white bone bird flapped its wings and took flight. Under the control of Xu Xi, it flew toward the sky at a leisurely pace.
Dark clouds surged, heavy with Death Qi. The jet-black dark sun merged with the clouds of Death Qi, making it impossible to distinguish between them. Only faintly could one discern the outline of a pitch-black sphere within.
A thousand years ago, the sun and moon of the Wizard World were normal, but after suffering the erosion of the Netherworld, they transformed into the current black sun and blood moon. This is a sign that the world is marching toward death.
"This altitude is about right." With a shift in his focus, Xu Xi commanded the bone bird to stop ascending, maintaining a safe altitude so that Sevia beside him could observe the land below.
Suspended high in the air, looking down at everything. All things were within view. Fierce winds whipped past her ears. The sensation of swaying, weightlessness, disorientation, and unsteady footing—all sorts of sensations she had never experienced before came rushing in.
It was a more novel experience than anything she had gone through since childhood. The girl shrank back a little, but gripping the gaps between the bird's bones with both hands, she quickly regained her composure and was able to observe below with a normal state of mind.
"Is this…" "The current Claufeel…" The wind was loud. It blew, causing Sevia's Soul Fire to flicker.
What met her eyes was a horrifying and terrifying scene; the earth was twisted and hideous, all things stood askew on the surface, the resurrected dead wandered everywhere, and the terrified living fled in all directions.
Death, fear, plague, darkness… These were things Sevia had long known. But, the perspective from the ground and the sky were two completely different experiences.
With the help of Xu Xi, the girl who could overlook the land from high above had, for the first time, a deeply profound and clear realization of the Undead Scourge. That, that is… It is Hell.
"How could it be like this…" Sevia was distraught, unable to reconcile the Hell before her with the beautiful home in her memories. A world turned into this, a Claufeel turned into this. It seemed that she could never return to the past.
"Lord Wizard, is the world now like this everywhere?" the girl asked softly.
"In most areas, just as you see, more than half has been eroded by the breath of the Netherworld," Xu Xi replied.
The world is vast, and there will always be a few places that retain their original vitality, but such places are too few; deathly silence is the main theme of this world. Just like the land below the bone bird. Corpses were scattered, the undead wandered, and the living either hid in remote places or gathered into solid defensive forces to jointly resist the offensive of the undead.
"Sevia." Xu Xi lowered his gaze, following the undead girl's eyes toward two tombstones on a distant hill. He asked: "Even so, do you still intend to stay?"
"Yes, Lord Wizard." The hero's answer was as firm as expected. Her slightly terrifying face and pale, colorless skeleton expressed her determination through her actions. "I will replace my father and mother and protect every person in Claufeel." Her voice was distorted in the wind. But Xu Xi truly heard the girl's fearless conviction.
[Protecting others, protecting the past—such things are undoubtedly arduous and heavy for Sevia]
[Especially with the premise that the world is destined for destruction]
[The girl's efforts are more like a beautiful dream destined to fail]
[You have countless ways to persuade the girl to give up and make her stop this meaningless behavior, but you remember yourself from the third simulation]
[You smile, feeling that Sevia does not need your preaching]
[She is a mature hero]
[With firm belief and resolute will, all you can do is bless her]
[After flying a circle carrying Sevia, you control the bone bird to land again, letting Sevia return to the dilapidated mansion]
[At the moment of parting, you deeply feel the difficulty of being a hero and teach Sevia a method to become stronger, a highly versatile Soul Cultivation method]
[You feel it is very suitable for Sevia]
[Sevia thanks you and politely performs a knight's salute]
["May everything go well for you, Lord Wizard."]
[Amidst the undead girl's farewell, you sit alone on the back of the bone bird and fly toward the Kingdom of Auca to the north]
[Fourth-Ring Wizard Tower · Tower of the White Crow]
[That is your final destination]
Xu Xi left. A Wizard's traveling speed is extremely fast. It was just a breath of time. The bone bird flapped its wings, easily stirring up wind vortices, and in an instant, it disappeared from Sevia's perception range, leaving behind only an enduring trail of Qi.
"Rustle, rustle." Withered branches swayed, colliding and brushing against each other. A long, long time passed before Sevia belatedly came back to her senses and moved her gaze away from the sky.
"Lord Wizard has already left…" In her calm voice, there was a hint of loneliness. She turned around. Pushed the door. The undead girl in heavy armor once again pushed open the creaking, rotten door, the slightly sharp sound echoing continuously inside the corridor. Solitary and desolate.
"From now on, will I be left alone again…" After pushing the door, Sevia did not enter immediately. She looked at the dark entrance, watching the dim and blurry interior, and suddenly, she felt a bit reluctant to go in.
In the past. The solitary hero could ignore all kinds of hardships, move forward in the wind and rain, curl up in the darkness, and silently clear away the troublesome undead. But it was strange. After experiencing just one short month. She could no longer get used to her previous life.
"Wake up, Sevia." "You are the only hope of the Claufeel Family. For your father, for your mother, you must be strong!" The undead girl cheered herself on and bravely stepped into the dilapidated mansion. It was no big deal. It was just returning to her former life. She could get used to it before, and she could get used to it now.
"Lord Wizard was right; my current strength is too weak; I cannot protect myself, nor can I protect others." "I must become stronger." Taking out the Cultivation method gifted by Xu Xi, Sevia began to read it seriously, studying the Cultivation methods within. Cultivate, swing the sword, clear the undead. Since Xu Xi left, the girl's daily routine was a simple three-point line. Occasionally, due to the arrival of thunderstorms, there would be an extra temporary project of curling up and holding her head.
"It's the hero, the hero is here!" "Great, we are saved!" "Monster, it's all because of you that the undead were drawn here! Get out, get out now!" "Quickly drive this monster out of the village!" Within the territory of Claufeel. It was still the same as before. Some people held goodwill toward the "hero," thinking the "hero" was a selfless, good person. Others held the most malicious delusions, feeling that the "hero" was the source of all death.
The undead girl did not respond, just silently wearing her armor, covering her face tightly, clearing the incoming undead for the people. She had always been this way. From the past until now, it was always like this.
"Father…" "Mother…" "I have met a good Wizard." On the top of the small hill, the hero once again sat curled up, leaning against the two tombstones, motionless in the thick night. Because she was wearing heavy armor, the figure looked somewhat tall. But inexplicably, it also looked somewhat small and lonely.
