Chapter 359: The Strange Injustice of the Contorted Wailing

Outside the ruins, the traces of corpses finally vanished.

In their place was a barren and deathly silent land.

Li Fan did not forget his goal. He turned back and conducted a general search of the ruins once more, but after finding no useful information…

…he marked the ruins, chose a direction, and flew off again close to the ground.

Two days later, Li Fan found a new set of ruins within the sea of White Mist.

The scale of these ruins was several times larger than that of Ruins No. 1.

Correspondingly, the scene of countless piled corpses was even more tragic.

The vivid expressions on their faces made Li Fan feel as if he were personally at the scene of the massacre.

Suppressing the unease in his heart, Li Fan searched the area as usual.

Although he still found no valuable information, several corpses within the sea of bodies caught his attention.

The vast majority of the Cultivators in Ruins No. 1 and Ruins No. 2 had died in an instant.

Aside from the terrified and desperate expressions on their faces, they left no information behind.

However, among so many people, there were still one or two whose cultivation was relatively stronger.

Before dying, they stared in a certain direction with eyes full of resentment and hatred.

It was as if the entity that took their lives was right there.

Even many years after their deaths, they still maintained this posture.

It happened to point the way through the White Mist for an outsider like Li Fan.

Thus, following the direction indicated by the corpses, Li Fan flew rapidly for a day and found Ruins No. 3.

Following the same method, Li Fan traced the path the killer had taken and continued forward.

No. 4, No. 5, No. 6…

Until he had only enough supplies left to last three days.

Li Fan had encountered a total of eleven ruins filled with corpses.

Just as he was rushing toward the twelfth set of ruins…

…something strange happened.

Despite flying forward at high speed, he unexpectedly returned to Ruins No. 11 after a short while.

After finding the marker he had left earlier, Li Fan was certain it wasn't an illusion.

So, he set out once more.

The result was the same.

After circling around, he returned to the starting point.

Li Fan pondered for a moment, remaining calm.

A third attempt.

This time, he slowed down, constantly sensing the position of Ruins No. 11 while flying.

He finally understood what was happening.

At a certain point during the flight, he must have encountered something.

It caused Li Fan's forward direction to instantaneously and imperceptibly become backward.

The first two times, Li Fan hadn't noticed at all, believing he was still flying forward.

In reality, he had already turned around.

Naturally, it didn't take long for him to return to his original starting point.

Now, Li Fan stood before the area that caused the change with a solemn expression.

He flew inside, and his physical position didn't change.

However, Ruins No. 11, which he had previously sensed behind him, had unknowingly appeared in front of him.

Li Fan frowned slightly and turned to fly backward, attempting to move away from Ruins No. 11 again.

But after flying for a short while, his sense of direction became scrambled once more.

However, Li Fan now had experience; he made sure Ruins No. 11 remained behind him at all times.

By constantly adjusting his direction, he made his way forward.

After much effort and another two days, he finally reached Ruins No. 12.

This ruin was the largest among all the sites.

But on the outskirts, no traces of corpses could be found.

When things are abnormal, there must be something strange afoot.

Li Fan braced himself and began exploring toward the center of the ruins.

The surroundings were deathly quiet.

In this Mystic Domain that formed its own world, even the demonic sounds from the Chizha Abyss could not reach him.

Aside from the sounds he made himself, Li Fan had not heard any other noise for a long time.

But as Li Fan approached the center of Ruins No. 12, a sudden rustling sound made the hair all over his body stand on end.

Through the White Mist, which had somehow grown thinner, Li Fan saw something on the ground not far away.

A Cultivator was lying face up, but his limbs were strangely contorted and bent downward.

His hands and feet were broken irregularly.

His toes and fingers were twisted together like fried dough twists.

Yet, using these ghastly limbs, the Cultivator slowly and laboriously crawled in circles.

Tirelessly.

It was unknown how long this had been going on, and it seemed as though it would never stop.

Looking at the monster that had survived in the White Mist for who knows how long, Li Fan's scalp tingled, and his heart skipped a beat.

Holding his breath, he slowly backed away.

However, the perception of this Contorted Monster seemed extremely keen.

It immediately sensed the arrival of a strange visitor.

With a snap, its drooping head flipped over onto its belly.

Then, it turned a full 180 degrees, staring intently at Li Fan with its face.

When the Contorted Monster's face came into Li Fan's view, his heart gave a sudden jolt.

The monster's facial features were completely inverted and displaced.

Two pairs of eyes were located where the mouth should be, weirdly swimming across the face at all times.

Its nose was embedded inside its skull.

And its mouth opened and closed continuously as the eyes kept shifting positions.

Inside were not a tongue and teeth, but rather one blood-stained human face after another.

Although the Contorted Monster's body had become grotesque, its movements were exceptionally swift.

Its hands and feet paddled incessantly, and in just a moment, it rustled its way right in front of Li Fan.

The hideous bloody faces in the monster's mouth seemed as if they would cover Li Fan's face in the next second.

Li Fan roared, "Die!"

He unleashed the Great Five Elements Nirvana Sword repeatedly.

While retreating rapidly, he did not stop the Nirvana Sword for a single moment.

To Li Fan's horror, when the black sword light hit the monster, its usual property of annihilating everything proved ineffective.

The sound of bones constantly squeezing and twisting creaked from the monster's body.

The monster seemed completely indifferent, the attack only causing its body to freeze for a brief moment.

Then, it rushed toward Li Fan at an even greater speed.

Even though Li Fan fired off over a hundred sword lights in one breath, the monster took them all head-on without showing any signs of injury.

"Damn it!"

Seeing the Contorted Monster about to pounce, Li Fan cursed inwardly and was about to activate Huan Zhen.

In the next second, something happened that caught him off guard.

Upon reaching Li Fan, the Contorted Monster did not attack; instead, it bent down and knelt.

It kowtowed repeatedly.

While kowtowing, it also emitted sobbing wails.

Bloody tears flowed from its two pairs of wandering eyes.

It also seemed desperate to say something.

But within its mouth were only those constantly shifting, weeping bloody faces, making it completely unable to express its thoughts.

"What is going on?"

Li Fan looked at the monster still wailing and kowtowing before him, his heart still racing from the shock.

Having temporarily escaped danger, Li Fan halted the process of Huan Zhen.

However, since he was still confused for the moment, Li Fan did not act rashly.

He simply listened patiently, trying to discern the content of the Contorted Monster's whimpers.

"Tian…"

"Yi…"

"?"

As he listened, he wondered if it was due to the long-term influence of the abyss's demonic sounds.

Li Fan once again heard those two words from the monster's mouth.

While suppressing the shock in his heart, Li Fan tentatively asked.

"Tian, Yi?"

The Contorted Monster let out a tragic wail and slammed its head violently against the ground.
