Chapter 39: The White Deer Reveals Its True Colors
Tao Yaoye glared with her beautiful eyes and slapped the chubby, black-and-white Iron-Eating Beast aside.
The fellow's two dark eyes overflowed with tears from Tao Yaoye's slap.
It lay on the ground wailing loudly and shouting, "There's no justice! No justice at all! Humans are bullying Spirit Beasts!"
Just then, Elder Jiu Jiu, the Second Elder of Spirit Beast Peak, appeared in the Waste Pill Room with a wine gourd in hand.
Elder Jiu Jiu gulped down a large mouthful of wine. The clear liquid trickled down her neck, flowing into a stream that disappeared down her deep cleavage.
Jiu Jiu frowned and asked, "What's going on? What is all this racket? And why are there so many Spirit Beasts here, and how can they all speak?"
Shangguan Rouer said cautiously, "Elder, Junior Brother Lin refined a special Medicinal Pill that can increase the intelligence of Spirit Beasts."
Jiu Jiu looked interested. "What kind of Medicinal Pill can allow these Spirit Beasts to speak ahead of time?"
Shangguan Rouer tentatively suggested, "Elder, why not let your Spirit Beast try one too?"
Jiu Jiu raised a White Deer at the Core Formation stage that had long since refined the vocal bone in its throat and could already speak.
The White Deer stepped forward at the right moment and said, "There's no need for me, since I could speak long ago."
The other Disciples didn't say anything, but they all looked at Jiu Jiu with expectant eyes.
Although Jiu Jiu was an Elder, she had an easygoing nature and always mingled with the Disciples. The Disciples of Spirit Beast Peak felt only affection for her and were not afraid of her at all.
Furthermore, after taking the enlightenment pill, the Spirit Beasts indeed became much smarter. Aside from causing social death, there were no drawbacks.
A few Disciples boldly joined in, "Elder, let it try one!"
"Exactly, Elder Jiu Jiu, the effects of this Medicinal Pill are great."
Jiu Jiu looked helpless. "Fine, I give up with you youngsters. Alright, let the White Deer try one then."
However, Jiu Jiu gave the White Deer a warning glare, as if saying, "If you say something you shouldn't, don't blame me for teaching you a lesson when we get back."
The White Deer wore a Divine Qi expression. In its heart, it looked down on Lin Mo's Medicinal Pill. As a dignified Core Formation Spirit Beast, how could it possibly be controlled by an ordinary enlightenment pill?
After swallowing the Medicinal Pill, the White Deer raised its head elegantly and let out a disdainful snort. It paced over to Jiu Jiu's side, when suddenly its whole fur shivered, and its front hooves began restlessly pawing the ground.
"Little White?" Jiu Jiu vigilantly gripped her wine gourd.
"Mas… Master…" The White Deer suddenly spoke in human speech, its voice trembling as if choked by something. "I… I must tell you a secret…"
The wine gourd in Jiu Jiu's hand slammed to the ground with a bang, and clear wine gushed out. She leapt forward to cover the White Deer's mouth, but the Spirit Deer nimbly dodged away.
"My master hasn't worn a—for three hundred years!"
"Shut up!" A golden light flew out from Jiu Jiu's sleeve—it was actually her Life-bound Magical Artifact, the Immortal Binding Rope.
"—bellyband!" The White Deer shouted as it ran, using its antlers to push aside the pouncing Immortal Binding Rope. "Saying things like 'Immortal cultivators shouldn't fuss over minor details', but in truth, it's just out of laziness! Last time at the hot springs—Ow!"
Jiu Jiu, her face flushed red, straddled the White Deer's back and tightly choked its neck. "If you dare say another word, we're having braised venison tonight!"
Jiu Jiu roared, glaring fiercely at Lin Mo, who was holding back his laughter. "You little bastard! What kind of wicked Medicinal Pill is this?!"
Lin Mo blinked innocently. "It's just an ordinary enlightenment pill. It might just make Spirit Beasts a bit talkative."
"Don't be afraid, Little Fellow Daoist," the White Deer rubbed against him affectionately. "In the third compartment of my master's wardrobe, there's a pair of torn…"
"Boom!"
A giant palm print was slammed onto the ground right beside where the White Deer and Lin Mo were standing.
Jiu Jiu said coldly, "Say one more word, and I'll eat venison right now!"
The White Deer didn't dare say another word no matter what, tightly covering its mouth with its hooves.
Lin Mo couldn't help giving a thumbs-up. As expected of a Core Formation Spirit Beast, it could actually suppress its urge to speak.
The White Deer's snow-white fur turned bright red from holding it in.
After a moment, it craned its neck and yelled at the top of its lungs, "My master not only dislikes wearing tops, she's often completely bare below too, and she's even hairless!"
Elder Jiu Jiu flung out a rope from her hand, binding the White Deer tightly.
She even tied a beautiful decorative knot. Lin Mo thought the binding technique looked a bit familiar, somewhat like a turtle shell harness.
With a dark face, Jiu Jiu dragged the White Deer away like a dead dog.
After Jiu Jiu left, the other Disciples of Spirit Beast Peak also left the Waste Pill Room one after another.
However, they were all cursing under their breath and shooting resentful glares at Lin Mo.
That night, the Spirit Beasts of Spirit Beast Peak seemed to have had their Ren and Du meridians opened, chatting chatteringly all night long.
In short, Spirit Beast Peak no longer had any secrets.
The Senior Sisters of Spirit Beast Peak in the Immortal Sect wished they could find a crack in the ground to hide in.
After returning, the Disciples of the Spirit Beast Sect went into secluded cultivation one after another, resulting in an extreme shortage of Spirit Beast litter in the Sect.
Not long after, Wang Dali came to Lin Mo, hoping Lin Mo could use his authority as an Elder to resolve the supply issue of Spirit Beast litter.
After all, Wang Dali had always relied on this to make money.
Lin Mo told Wang Dali to get lost immediately. He didn't dare set foot on Spirit Beast Peak—he wasn't even sure if he could come back alive.
Having nothing to do lately, Lin Mo spent his time wandering around the Inner Sect.
The place he visited most was the Scripture Pavilion. He searched through ancient texts, and according to records, no owner of the Calamity Poison Body in history had lived past the age of thirty.
The more information he looked up, the more disconsolate Lin Mo felt.
Could Tang Waner really be fated to die young?
For the time being, he had no solution and could only place his hopes on the Qiankun Fortune Cauldron.
He hoped that as his cultivation level increased, he would be able to find a way to cure Tang Waner.
That day, as usual, Lin Mo was purifying Medicinal Pills in the Waste Pill Room.
His immediate superior, Granny Jinhua, came knocking. Inside the Waste Pill Room, the doorframe vibrated noisily from a surge of spiritual energy.
"Elder Lin sure puts on grand airs!" Granny Jinhua's pockmarked old face emerged from the shadows, her withered fingers pinching an account book. "This month, the eight peaks of the Inner Sect refined three thousand six hundred catties of waste pills. According to custom, the Outer Sect must purchase them at three Spirit Stones per catty."
Lin Mo's brow twitched. Not only was this price three times higher than the market rate, but the Sect rules explicitly stated that waste pills were supposed to be disposed of free of charge.
This old hag was taking advantage of her higher rank to press him down, trying to extort money out of him!
"Granny, you must be joking. According to the Sect rules, waste pills have always been free," Lin Mo said, not backing down in the slightest.
Granny Jinhua's face turned icy cold as she said with impatience, "Elder Lin, are you sure you won't make up the Spirit Stones? Be careful, or your life in the Outer Sect won't be easy!"
Her words carried an obvious threat.
Lin Mo wasn't afraid of her at all. Who did Granny Jinhua think she was? One had to know that his backing was the Sect Master himself. Why would he fear a mere ordinary Inner Sect Elder?
