Chapter 45: I’m Going to Bring Her Back
Time flew to the next day.
Inside the Tianhai City Forging Guild, the heavy stone door of the top-tier forging room was tightly closed.
Lin Wei had already sent in all the gathered Materials for the [Wild Set].
Inside the door, Ou Yezi was immersed in the intense forging process, his focused profile illuminated by the deep blue otherworldly fire, while the rhythmic sound of metal striking echoed incessantly.
…
At noon, in the detached courtyard.
Inside Zhou Huai's bedroom, a flash of white light occurred.
[Ding! Clone 'Yasuo' cooldown has ended and it has been regenerated!]
A tall and straight figure appeared out of thin air once again. Its eyes were somewhat dull at first, but after Zhou Huai's consciousness sank in, they instantly regained their luster.
"The equipment isn't ready yet, so it's not advisable to leave the city for now." Zhou Huai pondered inwardly.
He called for Uncle Fu.
"Uncle Fu, please go help him buy a well-fitting long trench coat, and also prepare a pair of scissors."
Uncle Fu moved swiftly and quickly prepared the items.
Controlling Yasuo, Zhou Huai picked up the scissors and snipped a few times in front of the mirror, cutting his iconic untamed long hair into neat short hair.
Changing into a dark long trench coat, putting on a hood and a mask, only a pair of sharp, eagle-like eyes were exposed.
The originally flamboyant swordsman aura was perfectly restrained, replaced by the mystery and coldness of an urban drifter.
"Not bad."
Zhou Huai contentedly looked over Yasuo's new look.
The storm surrounding Yasuo's bounty had just passed, and he certainly didn't want to be recognized so quickly.
After finishing all this, Zhou Huai sank his consciousness entirely into Yasuo's body, controlling him to walk out of the detached courtyard's gate.
He was going to check out the address Mo Li mentioned.
Would that timid and slightly clever woman obediently go home and wait for him,
or had she already taken that space ring and absconded with the money?
…
127 Lilac Road.
Inside a dilapidated residential building, Mo Li pushed open her home's door.
She had returned.
Not because of that illusory promise, but because she couldn't not return.
The light inside the house was dim, filled with a faint medicinal scent.
"Sis, I'm back." Mo Li's voice carried a hint of exhaustion.
On the bed in the inner room lay a haggard young woman. Hearing the voice, she struggled to turn her neck, a trace of joy appearing on her face.
"Mo Li! You… you're finally back! It's so good that you're okay!"
"What on earth happened these past few days? The people from the Bloodfiend Syndicate… they've come several times, constantly asking about your whereabouts!"
Hearing the four words "Bloodfiend Syndicate", Mo Li's complexion instantly turned ashen.
It seemed they truly didn't plan to let her go.
"Sis, this isn't the time to talk about this." Mo Li walked quickly to the bedside, her eyes anxious.
"You must leave with me immediately!"
The woman on the bed, Mo Li's older sister, Mo Yu, showed a trace of bitterness on her face.
"Leave?"
"With me looking like this now, where can I go with you?"
"Tell me honestly, what on earth happened?"
Mo Li's lips trembled. After hesitating for a moment, she finally whispered: "Young Master Mo… Young Master Mo of the Bloodfiend Syndicate, he… he was killed."
"They suspect that I'm in cahoots with the person who killed Young Master Mo."
Hearing this news, the blood drained instantly from Mo Yu's face.
She knew better than anyone the methods of the Bloodfiend Syndicate's leader, and she understood the severity of this matter.
"Then you… you leave quickly!" Mo Yu's voice became urgent, "Hurry up and leave! Don't worry about me!"
"Anyway, I'm already a worthless life, they won't do anything to me!"
"No!" Mo Li stubbornly shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes, "You are my sister! We agreed that we would never be separated forever!"
She reached out, wanting to hold her sister's hand, only to find that her sister's hands were hanging limply by her sides, motionless.
Just as the two sisters were arguing endlessly.
"Bang!"
Heavy footsteps came from the hallway, moving from far to near. It sounded like at least three or four people.
Mo Li's heart tightened as she looked toward the door vigilantly.
"Who?!"
No one answered.
The next second.
"Clatter——!"
The fragile wooden door was violently kicked open with a single blow, wood chips flying everywhere.
Three burly men with fierce-looking faces blocked the doorway, the one at the lead wearing a ferocious sneer on his face.
"Mo Li, as expected, you still couldn't bear to leave your paralyzed sister and really came back."
"The Bloodfiend Syndicate has treated you well, and Young Master Mo appreciated you even more, keeping you by his side all day long. How dare you betray him!"
Mo Li trembled all over, instinctively blocking in front of her sister, her face ashen.
She knew that any explanation at this moment was completely meaningless.
"I can go with you." She took a deep breath, her voice trembling, "But you cannot hurt my sister!"
The leading man sneered, his gaze sweeping contemptuously over Mo Yu on the bed.
"Rest assured, I've got no interest in a paralyzed person."
"Otherwise, we would have made a move long ago; why wait until now?"
Despair completely submerged Mo Li like a tide.
She turned around, facing away from those big men, and quietly stuffed that space ring into her sister's hand.
She leaned close to her sister's ear and said quickly in a voice only the two of them could hear.
"Sister, keep this ring safe for now."
"If… if someone comes looking for me… you give this ring to him and let him save me!"
"If that person doesn't come… you take this ring and live a good life…"
Finishing her words, a bitter and pathetic smile appeared on Mo Li's face.
What foolish things was she saying?
That person had clearly died under the Dragon Breath; how could he possibly come to save her?
This was nothing more than… a final fantasy.
"No! Mo Li! Don't!"
Mo Yu cried heart-rendingly, the veins on her neck bulging, yet her body couldn't move a single bit.
She could only watch helplessly as that group of people roughly dragged Mo Li away like livestock.
The room door was slammed shut heavily.
Inside the room, only her helpless and despairing wails remained.
For a long time.
As the crying gradually grew hoarse.
At the doorway, footsteps sounded once again.
A figure wearing a long trench coat, a hood, and a mask stepped inside.
He glanced around the surroundings and finally let his gaze fall upon the tear-streaked woman on the bed, his brow furrowing imperceptibly.
"Is this Mo Li's home?" He spoke, his voice calm and waveless.
Mo Yu on the bed, looking at the mysterious man before her, suddenly remembered what her sister had said before leaving.
In an instant, it was as if a drowning person had grasped the last straw.
The flame of hope reignited within her deadened eyes.
"The… the ring…"
"The ring… is on the bed…"
She used all her strength to shake her neck, signaling the position of the ring.
Only then did Zhou Huai notice that this woman was actually also a paralyzed person.
And her condition was even more severe than his original body's.
He was only hemiplegic, whereas she seemed unable to move her entire body except for above her neck.
Without saying much, Zhou Huai stepped forward and picked up the ring from amidst the messy bedding.
It was indeed the one he gave to Mo Li.
"Where is Mo Li?" Zhou Huai spoke once more.
"I beg you… save her!" The woman pleaded with a crying voice, using all her strength, "She… she was taken away by the people from the Bloodfiend Syndicate!"
Zhou Huai nodded understandingly.
Without a single extra word of nonsense.
He casually tucked the ring into his pocket.
Turned around and went out the door.
"I'm going to bring her back."
A simple sentence, yet it made Mo Yu on the bed relax somewhat.
She could feel the confidence when the other person uttered these words.
As if whatever was said could be done.
Even if it meant facing an entire Adventurer's Guild.
