Chapter 465: The Challenge of the Brave

The witch once picked up a beam of light and returned it to the sun at sunset.

That warmth.

That beauty.

Fading away as the light departed.

The world turned gray, and the witch could see no color, waiting in the loneliness that remained for her, waiting for the next reunion, waiting for the sun to awaken.

"…Mentor."

"…Please forgive my insolence."

Earth, Yanshan City.

In the silent dead of night, Klisa stood on the corridor of the Courtyard, gazing at the transparent and clean glass before her, her expression calm and indifferent.

Outside, the starlight was shimmering.

A slightly cool evening breeze dissipated the heat of the day.

Amidst the gentle sounds, it carried the sweet fragrance of flowers from the garden and the faint water vapor evaporating from the pond.

Klisa had a clear goal.

Her eyes, interwoven with gold, black, and red, directly ignored the scenery in the Courtyard and instead locked onto the door of Xu Xi's room.

The wooden door was embedded in the night, casting shadows at various angles as the silver moonlight rippled across it.

She grasped the doorknob.

She applied force and turned it.

The witch pushed the door open and entered with silent steps.

Before the sun went down, she had pondered alone for a long time about what true bravery was and what the true way of the Demon Race was.

Ultimately.

Klisa reached this conclusion: [I don't know].

The clumsy witch was not good at thinking too much.

She simply felt that she needed to do something, such as taking a more proactive approach to get closer to the "sun."

With the wedding approaching, such an action seemed meaningless.

Yet in the witch's heart, there was an impulse pushing her forward, making her commit a bold transgression.

"Click—"

The crisp sound of the door opening echoed in the silent night.

Yes.

In the middle of the night, Klisa had entered Xu Xi's room without his permission.

"This isn't a mistake…"

Amidst her inner shame, the witch defended herself: "Right now, I am not entering the room as [the master's possession], but as his wife."

"Therefore, my current behavior is quite reasonable."

Klisa nodded slightly.

She had convinced herself with her own reasoning.

After that, she groped through the dark interior, her feet stepping lightly on the cold floor as she moved slowly toward Xu Xi's bedside with an air of vigilance, tension, and trepidation.

"Mentor…?"

Klisa saw it.

That familiar face, breathing steadily and rhythmically, currently in a deep sleep.

The witch tilted her head and blinked her eyes.

With even more delicate movements, she gently lifted a corner of the quilt and tried to crawl inside, lying on the other side of the bed.

"I mustn't wake Mentor."

The witch murmured in her heart.

The room was dim and the light was sparse, with only a few strokes of silver moonlight struggling through the gaps in the curtains to fall upon Klisa's long, silver-gray hair.

Xu Xi had already transcended.

Whether he slept or not didn't affect anything.

But the witch did not want to disturb Xu Xi too much; she only wanted to undertake the challenge of the brave alone.

"Good, I'm in."

The warm bedding was like a light, warm breeze wrapping around the witch's limbs, making her subconsciously lose herself in it.

Such a heavy sense of security.

It did not come from the quilt itself, but from Xu Xi beside her.

Klisa lay quietly, the heat transferred from the quilt, her fingers holding the hand of the person beside her, as she lay staring up at the pitch-black ceiling.

Quietly.

Silently.

Enjoying the privileges of a wife.

Sharing a bed with her husband.

However—

Klisa was very self-aware and did not lose herself in this warmth to the point of forgetting her original goal.

"Mentor?" she spoke again, cautiously testing to see if Xu Xi was truly asleep, lest her upcoming transgression be discovered.

Her heart thrummed, bringing with it the emotion known as "nervousness."

Five or six seconds passed.

The room remained silent.

Klisa felt relieved; she turned into a shadow of light, gently wriggling her body to press closer to Xu Xi.

"Mentor's face…"

Her palms were fair as she extended her fingers.

With the gentlest movements possible, Klisa cupped Xu Xi's cheeks under the covers, turning him toward her.

His eyes were closed tight in sleep.

His face was gentle.

His lips had a healthy color, unlike in the Magic World where they were pale from the daily burden of studying magic and Mental Energy.

"…"

Klisa's overly long silver-gray hair was pinned beneath her.

She was dazed.

Gazing at Xu Xi's sleeping face and listening to his steady breathing, she drifted off in her own thoughts for a long, long time, until finally a small curve lifted the corners of her mouth.

"You haven't changed at all, Mentor."

The girl hesitated, then began to implement tonight's ultimate plan.

She cupped her beloved's face further.

She leaned in.

Very clumsily.

She let their foreheads touch and their noses meet, her silver-gray hair falling and sliding against the sleeping man's neck.

"Mentor…"

The witch's voice trembled slightly.

Even though her tone was as calm as ever, without intense fluctuations or emotion.

It was filled with a beautiful resonance.

"I… I…"

She stammered, summoning what little courage she had to confess in her capacity as his wife: "I… love… you."

Relief washed over her.

Those three short words drained the Supreme of magic of all her strength.

Her eyes were fragile and bright, reflecting Xu Xi's face as well as the witch's own serene smile.

She felt.

That she was brave tonight.

At least braver than before.

However, she couldn't retreat yet; in the witch's well-considered plan, a perfect ending was still missing.

"…"

Squeezing out the last of her courage, Klisa cupped Xu Xi's cheeks even tighter.

In the dark of night, she gently leaned forward.

It was a touch as light and delicate as a cloud.

It was at that moment that Klisa discovered a pair of eyes across from her had opened from sleep, looking at her in confusion.

"Klisa, what are you…"

Xu Xi tried to make sense of the situation.

"Mentor, I'm here to deliver a late-night snack."

Klisa responded quickly, pulling out a serving of Late-night Soy Milk and several steaming small Tea Pastries from out of nowhere.

Then.

She very politely bid Xu Xi farewell.

She tidied her messy hair, smoothed the wrinkles in her clothes, got out of bed, curtsied, and left Xu Xi's room with inexplicably fast steps, disappearing into the thick night.

Faintly.

Two other wills were retracting in the air.

Xu Xi fell into thought, his Mental Energy penetrating the Void Realm to review the time-space images of tonight. His expression became somewhat surprised.

"A night raid? Klisa?"

Xu Xi laughed in spite of himself.

If you called her brave, she only dared to do it in the middle of the night.

If you called her not brave, she had conducted two consecutive night raids.

Adding in his sister and the Mech-Servant who were lurking in the shadows, tonight seemed quiet, but it was actually quite lively.

"Should I call it progress? Klisa has learned to prepare excuses in advance."

Xu Xi looked down at the bedside table.

From atop the cabinet, he picked up a cup of warm Late-night Soy Milk. It was slightly sweet upon entry with a long-lasting aftertaste, just as sweet as the witch's "I love you."
