Chapter 53: Saving People in Distress (1)

As expected of Dragon Scale Horses, they traveled with divine speed, covering a ten-day journey in just two days.

The Sunset Mountain Range is the largest Demonic Beast forest in the Dongling Kingdom. It is located in the northwest of the Dongling Kingdom and covers an area roughly the size of a province.

Nurtured for tens of millions of years, the ancient trees within are lush and sky-reaching, and Demonic Beasts run rampant. Those who are not Martial Artists would never dare to enter.

However, the Sunset Mountain Range is not lonely, as there are always Martial Artists entering—either for cultivation and experience, hunting Demonic Beasts, or searching for medicinal herbs.

The luxurious and grand carriage slowly came to a halt in Qiaotou Town, a small town to the north of the Sunset Mountain Range.

Generally, people entering the Sunset Mountain Range will rest for a night in Qiaotou Town to make necessary preparations and supplies for their journey into the mountains.

“Eat more vegetables; once we're inside, there will only be roasted meat.” Inside the private box, Nangong Liuyun placed a piece of chicken into Su Luo's bowl with his chopsticks, the brilliant smile in his eyes almost overflowing.

The argument from two days ago seemed to have vanished like the wind for him; afterward, he continued to act as he always did, making it impossible for Su Luo to maintain a cold face.

Su Luo glanced at him and said, “You eat too.”

“If you serve it to me, I'll eat it.” Nangong Liuyun leaned closer to her with a roguish smile.

However, at that moment, a noisy sound drifted in from outside, accompanied by the panicked cries of a young girl.

Su Luo looked down from the window.

An argument was taking place in the lobby on the first floor.

A young girl of thirteen or fourteen was crying pitifully, while beside her, her white-bearded grandfather was being hoisted up by his collar.

“Let go of my grandfather! Quickly let go of my grandfather! He's about to be strangled to death by you… Wuwu…” The young girl was crying so hard she could barely breathe.

The one throttling the old man was a profligate Young Master dressed in silk and finery, though unfortunately, he had a face like a sharp-mouthed monkey.

He drawled with a slow, cold laugh, his face full of sinister aggression: “Old man, did you see clearly? There’s a fly in our dish. Tell me, what should be done about it?”

The old man being throttled was already seventy or eighty years old, with hair as white as frost and a face full of wrinkles. His eyelids drooped, and his speech was somewhat unsteady.

His eyes were full of misery as he pleaded tremulously, “Sirs, our shop has always been clean, how could there be a fly? This… this must be some kind of mistake.”

“A mistake? Is this not a fly then? Tell me, how should this be handled now!” The profligate Young Master stepped one foot onto a bench while clutching the old man's collar with one hand.

Behind him stood a row of thugs, each one vigorous and fierce with wide-staring eyes. They were quite imposing, giving off a powerful sense of intimidation.

“These dishes… this old man will consider them a gift to you all for free. What do you think?” The old man's face was indescribably wretched.

“A free gift? What do you mean? Do you think we're here to eat for free?” The profligate Young Master was very dissatisfied. “Look closely, there's a fly in your food! Ah, do you see it?”

He grabbed the old man's head and pressed it onto the table, almost burying his entire face into the food.

The old man was full of misery: “Yes, yes, yes, whatever you sirs say goes…”

The profligate Young Master sneered several times: “It's not that we are intentionally extorting you, but there is a problem with your food. Considering you're giving us fifty taels of silver, we'll let this matter drop.”

“Fifty taels?” The old man's face was full of shock, almost unable to believe his ears.
