Chapter 56: Capturing Nightingale (Part 2)

A chill flashed in Deputy Leader Ling Chuan's eyes. He sneered, "It seems, Lin Fan, we underestimated you. There aren't many who dare to openly provoke Red Abyss."

"Red Abyss? Tsk, that name is quite imposing." Lin Fan shrugged, his tone flippant. "Unfortunately, an imposing name cannot cover up the fact that you are a bunch of losers."

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan's expression changed slightly, and he said in a deep voice, "Losers? Are you referring to Nightingale's 'mistake' last time? I have to admit, we were careless. But this time—"

He raised a hand, and dozens of Red Abyss members immediately raised their energy weapons, aiming them collectively at Lin Fan and Nightingale. "There will be no more oversights."

Nightingale stared coldly at Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, showing no fear. "I didn't kill Lin Fan last time not because of a mistake, but because it was a choice. You want to know why? The secret of Watchtower Island is far greater than you imagine."

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan frowned slightly, a flash of hesitation appearing in his eyes. Clearly, Nightingale's words had touched a nerve.

Lin Fan took the opportunity to raise an eyebrow, a wicked smile hanging on the corner of his mouth. "It seems you aren't all-knowing after all."

His tone shifted, and he said coldly, "Red Abyss, controlling the shadow forces behind Ningguta, yet you can't even grasp the secret of Watchtower Island. It's truly disappointing."

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan did not respond to Lin Fan's provocation. He lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then spoke coldly, "No matter what secret Watchtower Island hides, don't think you'll get out alive with it." He waved his hand and ordered, "Do it!"

Following Deputy Leader Ling Chuan's command, the Red Abyss members moved simultaneously. Their weapons lit up with dazzling blue light, and dangerous energy fluctuations instantly filled the air.

Nightingale quickly drew the energy dagger from her waist and stood back-to-back with Lin Fan, whispering, "If you still want to leave alive, you'd better show some real skills."

Lin Fan grinned, a trace of arrogance in his eyes. "I don't need to get serious to deal with this bunch of small fry."

He waved his right hand, and a trail of pale purple Void Power quietly spread out, enveloping both of them.

Immediately after, the ground vibrated slightly, and a Void Power shield, thin as a cicada's wing yet indestructible, instantly formed, blocking all attacks from the Red Abyss members.

"Red Abyss, is it?" Lin Fan stood within the Void Power shield, his gaze cold and stern, a mocking smile on his lips.

"Red Abyss, you think you can threaten me with these level 4 civilization trinkets? Since you came looking for trouble, don't blame me for being impolite."

The spiritual energy within his body quietly circulated, and Void Power surrounded him, faintly emitting a daunting pressure.

Although his cultivation was only at the Nascent Soul Mid Stage, through the augmentation of the Void Heaven-Swallowing Art and the world's rules, his actual combat power had already reached the level of the Soul Transformation Middle Stage.

This level of strength, placed within the technological system, was already equivalent to the Peak combat power of a level 5 civilization Middle Stage.

And the Red Abyss before him was at most level 4 civilization combat power, which was not worth mentioning to him at all.

"However…" A profound look flashed in Lin Fan's eyes, his tone slightly playful. "Killing you directly is too boring. Capturing you alive might allow me to pry some interesting things out of your mouths."

After saying this, he waved his hand and lightly activated the starfire c9 armor.

The armor covered his entire body like flowing light, the ice-blue plating shimmering with a faint glow, and futuristic patterns flickered in the dark night.

This top-tier level 4 civilization armor, combined with Lin Fan's Void Power, could directly elevate his combat power to the level of a level 6 civilization Early Stage—this was already an existence that Red Abyss could not match at all.

A powerful sense of oppression instantly filled the air, and the Red Abyss members could not help but retreat slightly, their weapons appearing pale and powerless beneath the terrifying energy gathering around Lin Fan.

"What? Scared?" Lin Fan sneered and waved his hand lightly. A Void Power blade sliced through silently, precisely severing the weapon energy sources of four Red Abyss members.

"Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, is this all your people are capable of?" Lin Fan's gaze bore directly into the Red Abyss deputy leader, his voice cold. "Or is it that you are also just an abandoned pawn of Red Abyss?"

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan's face turned livid. He stared fixedly at Lin Fan, tumultuous waves crashing in his heart.

Lin Fan's strength completely exceeded his expectations; this could no longer be explained by simple "individual combat power."

Even the top-tier warriors within their Red Abyss were only at level 4 civilization Peak combat power, yet Lin Fan had crushed their entire squad with his own power alone!

"Don't think you've won!" Deputy Leader Ling Chuan shouted angrily, forcefully suppressing the fear in his heart. "Red Abyss never stops at failure!"

He gritted his teeth and activated a hidden emergency mechanism, attempting to detonate the energy cores on his team members.

However, Lin Fan's Void Power had already enveloped the entire field. As he raised his hand, a purple light turned into a barrier, firmly suppressing all the energy cores.

"Don't waste your effort. Did you think I would give you the chance to go down together?" Lin Fan sneered, his tone carrying an air of absolute control. "Now, behave. I wouldn't mind prying your mouths open one by one."

The Red Abyss members looked at each other, many of them showing expressions of fear in their eyes. Deputy Leader Ling Chuan gritted his teeth, struggling internally.

Nightingale stood to the side, watching coldly, and whispered, "You know better than anyone how dark it is behind Red Abyss. Instead of throwing your life away, you might as well stay and see what Lin Fan can actually do."

"Lin Fan!" Deputy Leader Ling Chuan finally snorted coldly and put down the detonation device in his hand. He looked up at Lin Fan and gritted his teeth, "What exactly do you want to get from us?"

Lin Fan's lips curled into a wicked arc, his voice low and carrying a hint of danger: "The secret of Watchtower Island, and the true purpose of your Red Abyss—don't even think about hiding a single word."

A bitter smile appeared on Deputy Leader Ling Chuan's face, his tone low and helpless: "I truly do not know the secret of Watchtower Island. Although our Red Abyss is affiliated with the Ningguta Authorities, we are only responsible for handling some unsavory matters. As for Watchtower Island, even the high-level officials may not fully understand its true significance."

Lin Fan frowned slightly, his tone carrying a chill: "Stop beating around the bush with me. How exactly does your Red Abyss operate?"

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan was silent for a moment, then finally chose to speak: "Red Abyss is nominally an independent organization, specializing in taking in those rioters, rebels, and some extremely dangerous elements that cannot be accepted by normal society. Externally, it is claimed that they have gained freedom and are away from the management of Ningguta. However, in reality… Red Abyss is just a hand of the authorities, used to secretly control these people."

Lin Fan's eyes became increasingly cold: "In other words, your Red Abyss absorbs these rioters, not to let them be reborn, but to firmly cage them in an invisible prison to work for the Ningguta Authorities?"

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan nodded, his tone carrying a hint of self-mockery: "That's right. Freedom is just a pretense. The existence of our Red Abyss is to eliminate hidden dangers for the authorities, while firmly keeping these destabilizing factors under control."

Nightingale, standing to the side, was stunned upon hearing this, her eyes revealing unbelievable shock: "What? You mean… Red Abyss has actually been working for the Ningguta Authorities all along? And our so-called 'freedom' is just another form of enslavement?"

Deputy Leader Ling Chuan looked at Nightingale, his expression complex: "Nightingale, don't you understand yet? Red Abyss has never been a safe haven of freedom, but a net of the authorities. Whether it is you, or those rioters who joined Red Abyss, none of you can ultimately escape the control of the authorities."
