Chapter 604: Stirring the Imperial Capital (Part 5)
Everyone looked at Su Luo, their hearts filled with mixed emotions.
This Fourth Miss Su had been to the Crown Princes Residence once before. Back then, she was like a country bumpkin entering the city, timid and weak, so much so that even their servants dared to mock her openly.
But now, the tables have turned, and circumstances are pressing.
Even the previously arrogant Prince Jin could be so gentle and doting towards her under such overwhelming circumstances, which made people lament the impermanence of life.
Concubine Meng struggled to get up, raising her head. Her bruised and swollen face was simply unbearable to look at.
"Oh, the injuries on your face, you had them yesterday, didn't you?" Su Luo's eyebrows slightly arched, her eyes held a playful smile, sparkling like crystal light at the bottom of her pupils.
Concubine Meng's hands at her sides clenched into fists. Her chest felt as if a large stone was blocking it, heavy and stifling, making her extremely uncomfortable.
Su Luo, who was once inferior to her in every way, was now nestled beside Prince Jin, a man she could only dream of reaching.
And she, who once looked down upon Su Luo from a high perch, now stood below them like a prisoner, utterly disheveled.
Such a huge disparity made Concubine Meng's face flush crimson, her eyes burning like two raging fires, staring intently at Su Luo, wishing she could tear her to shreds.
The latter, however, comfortably crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow with a leisurely smile, her attitude utterly relaxed.
Su Luo's smile further ignited the anger in Concubine Meng's heart.
"Why are you here? Is the Crown Princes Residence a place you can just come and go as you please?" Concubine Meng angrily rebuked Su Luo.
Su Luo smiled at her, curving her lips into a wicked, cold smirk: "The Crown Princes Residence? What a grand display of power. Creditors with such grandiosity aren't allowed to come collect debts anymore?"
Su Luo turned her gaze to Nangong Liuyun: "Does our Dongling Kingdom have such a national law?"
"If the Crown Prince could enact national laws, then it wouldn't be impossible," Nangong Liuyun said with a faint smile.
This statement was truly damning.
Only His Majesty had the right to enact national laws. Wasn't Prince Jin implying that the Crown Prince harbored intentions of replacing the Emperor?
Concubine Meng panicked, quickly forcing a smile: "Your Highness Prince Jin, you jest. How, how could that be possible?"
"Call out the Crown Prince," Nangong Liuyun's eyes slightly chilled. He took out an IOU from his bosom and placed it on the table.
Seeing this, a mischievous glint flashed in Su Luo's bright eyes. She also took out her IOU from her sleeve and placed it next to Nangong Liuyun's.
Nangong Liuyun slightly raised an eyebrow at Steward Xu. Steward Xu's heart suddenly constricted, but he still tremblingly stood up, took the IOUs, and after just one glance, his eyes rolled back, and he almost fainted.
Steward Xu tremblingly presented the two IOUs with both hands to Concubine Meng, lowering his gaze, not daring to meet Concubine Meng's questioning eyes.
Concubine Meng, seeing Steward Xu so frightened, already had a bad premonition, but she still resolutely took the two IOUs.
The top one was from His Highness Prince Jin.
One thousand five hundred green crystal stones?!
Concubine Meng's legs trembled, and she almost knelt down.
She stared intently, meticulously counting each number, over and over several times, but the number remained one thousand five hundred.
"This, this is impossible…" Concubine Meng stammered, shaking her head repeatedly.
Heavens, one thousand five hundred. Even if they sliced the Crown Prince into pieces and sold him, he wouldn't fetch that price.
There was another IOU behind it, which should be Su Luo's.
Concubine Meng thought, that Stinky Girl Su Luo is so poor she can't even afford clothes, how could she have anything to lend the Crown Prince?
