Chapter 61: The Note
A cool breeze rushed over, making Junior Brother Bai Ming's face tighten. He glanced to the side and realized Senior Sister Tao Yu was holding on even tighter than he was, seemingly enjoying the oncoming cool breeze.
Senior Brother Wei Yu used spiritual energy to transmit his voice, "How is it? Do you want to use spiritual energy to block the cool breeze?"
"No need."
"Same here."
Senior Brother Wei Yu smiled knowingly, "Then you'll have to hold on tighter; I'm going to accelerate."
Whoosh, that feels great.
The coolness brought by the breeze spread throughout his entire body, and Junior Brother Bai Ming sighed in his heart.
A flash of dazzling golden light streaked through the air, bringing the group to their destination.
The golden light dissipated, and the group landed in a clearing. They tidied their clothes on the spot and began searching for spiritual herbs.
Senior Brother Wei Yu emphasized, "This place can block spiritual sense, so it's best not to stray too far from me. Be careful of being separated by spirit beasts."
"Then I will stay right next to you, Senior Brother." Junior Brother Bai Ming nodded obediently, not wanting to cause them any trouble.
Senior Sister Tao Yu looked at Junior Brother Bai Ming and smiled, "I'll join you too. That way, I can teach Junior Brother some knowledge about spiritual herbs."
"Then I shall act as your guard." Senior Brother Wei Yu released his spiritual energy, casting a powerful pressure over the surrounding area.
Junior Brother Bai Ming asked in confusion, "Won't this attract spirit beasts?"
Senior Sister Tao Yu held up her little finger and waved it, "Junior Brother, you don't know this, but Senior Brother's cultivation technique comes with its own pressure. Spirit beasts will naturally avoid it when they encounter it."
"Besides, we aren't that deep in yet, so there are no powerful spirit beasts. This way, it saves a lot of trouble."
"I see." Junior Brother Bai Ming understood.
The two began searching for herbs. Senior Sister Tao Yu gathered them while explaining things to Junior Brother Bai Ming.
Senior Sister Tao Yu broke off a leaf and turned to look at Junior Brother Bai Ming, "This is a Spirit Jade Leaf. It can heal wounds, and it is a main ingredient in the medicinal liquid you use."
"Mm." Junior Brother Bai Ming leaned in to listen.
The two moved to another spot, and Senior Sister Tao Yu patiently explained the uses of various herbs. Junior Brother Bai Ming listened with rapt attention, not daring to miss a single word.
Roar— A wild wolf howl echoed through the valley.
Senior Sister Tao Yu stopped her explanation, and Junior Brother Bai Ming quickly stood up, looking somewhat vigilant.
A flash of light flickered, and Senior Brother Wei Yu arrived beside them, shielding the two with golden light.
He looked cautious, "Don't leave this spot."
"Mm, be careful, Senior Brother." Junior Brother Bai Ming clenched his fists. He hated his own powerlessness; at times like this, he could only stand there and watch.
A massive dark shadow, five meters tall, appeared before them. Its scarlet eyes revealed a sense of greed and brutality.
Covered in dark fur from head to toe, it looked like a shadow under the sunlight. The group could only vaguely make out a wolf-like figure.
"Hiss—" The Dark Wolf let out a deep, muffled growl, carrying a strong sense of warning, as if it were about to charge and tear them all to shreds the next moment.
"It seems this is its territory. It looks like it mistook me for a spirit beast coming to challenge it." Senior Brother Wei Yu explained to the two while condensing his spiritual energy.
"Although this situation isn't common, it does happen sometimes."
Whoosh— The giant black shadow vanished from its spot, but Senior Brother Wei Yu hadn't even turned around as he continued to speak, "The Dark Wolf, a type of dark spirit beast, is extremely cunning, and its movements are very strange."
"Be careful, Senior Brother!" Junior Brother Bai Ming exclaimed in alarm.
A giant black claw swiped toward Senior Brother Wei Yu's back, and he seemed not to have noticed.
A huge shadow loomed over Junior Brother Bai Ming's face. That massive figure blocked out all the sunlight, and his vision turned pitch black.
Oh no.
Junior Brother Bai Ming wanted to rush over and push Senior Brother Wei Yu away, but his sleeve was pulled by Senior Sister Tao Yu beside him.
"How impatient." Senior Brother Wei Yu said in a relaxed tone, "Daring to interrupt my conversation with Junior Brother, then please go die."
Golden light flared brightly, dispelling the darkness brought by the Dark Wolf, while a semi-transparent golden light blocked the claw attack.
A few breaths later, a golden spear was thrown out. The Dark Wolf's scarlet eyes were directly pierced and blinded, and its massive body flew into the distance, pinned against a giant boulder.
It flailed its limbs constantly, struggling desperately, but it could not break free from the restraint.
Senior Brother Wei Yu came before the two and looked at the slightly dazed Junior Brother Bai Ming, "What's wrong?"
Junior Brother Bai Ming's expression was slightly surprised, "Senior Brother is so strong."
"Are you alright?" Senior Brother Wei Yu's body shimmered with golden light.
"I'm fine, but for this Dark Wolf to dare attack even under Senior Brother's pressure, it certainly has some spirit." Junior Brother Bai Ming looked toward the Dark Wolf in the distance.
Hearing Junior Brother Bai Ming's question, Senior Brother Wei Yu turned his back, rubbed his right hand, and a trace of unnaturalness flashed in the depths of his eyes.
Senior Sister Tao Yu, standing to the side, looked at Junior Brother Bai Ming's back. There seemed to be some dark clouds in her eyes, but they quickly dissipated.
She placed a hand on Junior Brother Bai Ming's shoulder, "Senior Brother is very strong, so don't worry, Junior Brother."
"Are we still going to continue gathering herbs? Should we change locations?" Junior Brother Bai Ming was a bit worried. His cultivation was simply too low, which made him feel uneasy.
Senior Brother Wei Yu said in a calm tone, "No need to worry. The Dark Wolf was just an accident; nothing should happen from here on out."
For some reason, after hearing Senior Brother Wei Yu's words, the worry in Junior Brother Bai Ming's heart dissipated, "Senior Brother is truly reliable."
Under Senior Sister Tao Yu's guidance, Junior Brother Bai Ming learned about spiritual herbs while gathering them.
Under Senior Brother Wei Yu's protection, the group was not attacked again.
As dusk approached, a beam of golden light shot up into the sky.
They arrived at a remote little peak. The golden light landed and slowly dissipated, revealing the figures of the three.
Junior Brother Bai Ming carried the herb basket, his face happy, "The harvest today was quite bountiful."
Senior Brother Wei Yu nodded, "It also served to let Junior Brother familiarize himself with the herb-gathering process."
Senior Sister Tao Yu said sweetly, "Little Junior Brother still has much to learn in the future."
"Alright, it's getting late. Little Junior Brother's spiritual meridians have just recovered a little, so we shouldn't disturb his rest." Senior Sister Tao Yu took Senior Brother Wei Yu's hand and led him away.
Senior Brother Wei Yu waved, "Then we shall head off first."
After waving goodbye, Junior Brother Bai Ming opened his room door and looked at the furnishings inside, feeling a bit emotional.
But before he could close the door, a note floated into the room.
On it were words written with spiritual energy.
"In the dead of night, come to the Left Peak. I have something you want, and also, I want to talk to you."
After reading the content, the note spontaneously ignited in mid-air, leaving no trace behind.
His palm still held the lingering warmth from the burning. Junior Brother Bai Ming hurriedly turned his head and vaguely saw the backs of the two as they left.
He was puzzled, "It should have been from Senior Brother Wei or Senior Sister Tao, but why didn't they say it in person?"
"The thing should be that lock, but what else is there to talk about?"
Many questions arose in Junior Brother Bai Ming's mind, but he didn't pay too much attention to them. When night came, everything would naturally be revealed.
He closed his eyes to regulate his breath and used his spiritual energy to examine his own spiritual roots.
The originally flawless five-colored spiritual root was now incomplete and dull, devoid of light.
A thought even arose in his mind.
Can this really be cured?
However, he still poured his spiritual energy into it bit by bit.
The night was quiet, and the evening breeze whooshed. A few dewdrops dripped from the tender buds of the branches and leaves, turning into water vapor that dissipated and drifted away with the wind.
Junior Brother Bai Ming slowly opened his eyes and sighed, "As expected, it's not that easy to recover."
He gathered his spirits, stood up, and opened the door.
"I might as well go there and take a look first."
