Chapter 62: Infiltration (Part 3)

Lin Fan walked up to the main gate of the High-Dimensional Laboratory. The defenses here were tight; the guards at the entrance were fully armed with cold expressions.

He attempted to enter in the guise of "Deputy Leader Ling Chuan," but was told he did not have the required access.

"The High-Dimensional Laboratory is currently in a state of total lockdown. No one is permitted to enter without authorization." The guard's tone left no room for negotiation.

Lin Fan frowned slightly, mocking them internally: 'Even the Deputy Leader doesn't have access! The high-dimensional world you're researching is just the Canglan Immortal Domain, and you won't even let me in?'

With no other choice, he had to leave for the time being.

Just as he turned around, a sharp, urgent communication alert rang out from the device he carried with him.

He glanced down. A set of strange codes appeared on the device's screen, and at the same time, a cold, harsh voice came through, filled with obvious anger:

"Ling Chuan, look at the mess you've made! You can't even handle a single Nightingale?"

Lin Fan narrowed his eyes, a chill running through his heart.

The voice was low and authoritative, filled with a sense of oppression. It was clearly the superior of Deputy Leader Ling Chuan.

Through the memories of Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, Lin Fan immediately identified the speaker as the Grand Commander of the Red Abyss—Grand Commander Li Cangming.

Grand Commander Li Cangming, the supreme leader of the Red Abyss, held absolute power over the organization.

He was known for his brutal methods and iron-fisted style, serving as the "blade" used by the Ningguta Authorities to carry out their most secretive missions.

Although there was almost no information about him in the outside world, no one within the Red Abyss was unaware of his fearsome reputation.

"Ling Chuan, I will give you one more chance. If the mission to eliminate Nightingale fails, you know the consequences." A cold murderous intent seeped through the voice of Grand Commander Li Cangming.

Lin Fan did not respond immediately. After a moment of thought, he decided to continue posing as Deputy Leader Ling Chuan to probe the other party's intentions.

He lowered his voice, deliberately adopting a tone of trepidation:

"Grand Commander, this was indeed my mistake. Nightingale's reaction was faster than expected, but I have already set up a contingency plan and will take care of her soon."

Grand Commander Li Cangming let out a cold snort. Clearly, he was not satisfied with this explanation, but he did not press the matter further. He said in a deep voice:

"I don't care what method you use, I only want results. If you disappoint me again, the position of Deputy Leader will be given to someone else!"

The communication ended. Lin Fan put away the device, a cold smile curling at the corner of his lips.

"Grand Commander Li Cangming…" He whispered the name, his murderous intent growing stronger.

The plan to eliminate Nightingale was clearly orchestrated by Grand Commander Li Cangming from behind the scenes. Now, in the guise of Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, he could follow the trail to uncover the true relationship between the Red Abyss and the Black Obsidian Organization.

Disguised as Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, Lin Fan returned to the command center of the Red Abyss.

He stood before a virtual light screen and flicked his fingertips, pulling up the internal mission records and resource allocation lists of the Red Abyss.

He knew that if the Red Abyss was truly connected to the Black Obsidian Organization, there would surely be clues hidden within these secretive missions.

As the stream of information scrolled across the screen, Lin Fan quickly noticed a key point—

The Red Abyss had recently been continuously transporting resources to an unknown coordinate. These resources included highly concentrated energy crystals and Advanced weapon components. The scale of this material mobilization far exceeded the needs of any ordinary Red Abyss operation.

"Who is this being sent to?" Lin Fan frowned inwardly.

Generally speaking, Red Abyss mission resources always recorded clear targets and distributors, but the recipient of this transport record was marked as "Special Partner," with no specific identity information.

Lin Fan attempted to access the detailed information of the "Special Partner," but found that this information was encrypted, with an access Rank higher than that of a Deputy Leader.

"It seems this lead is indeed inseparable from Grand Commander Li Cangming." Lin Fan sneered.

He did not forcibly crack these records for the time being, as doing so would likely expose his disguised identity.

Instead, he turned to examine the related data of the High-Dimensional Laboratory.

He vaguely felt that there might be some connection between the High-Dimensional Laboratory and this resource shipment.

Sure enough, Lin Fan discovered that the person in charge of the High-Dimensional Laboratory and the person who approved the resource mobilization were one and the same—Shen He.

Shen He, the head of scientific research within the Red Abyss, was proficient in Universe physics and biological modification technology, and was the director of the High-Dimensional Laboratory.

Lin Fan remembered that in the memories of Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, Shen He had met with Grand Commander Li Cangming privately several times, seemingly to plan some important project.

And the codename for this project happened to be "Light of Black Obsidian."

Lin Fan stared at the four words "Light of Black Obsidian," his eyes narrowing slightly.

He did not look any further, because the mission codenamed "Light of Black Obsidian" was clearly in a state of top-secret status.

Acting rashly would only attract the attention of Grand Commander Li Cangming.

"It seems the Red Abyss not only has ties to the Black Obsidian Organization, but may even be a fulcrum for the Black Obsidian Organization's operations."

This brought a larger speculation to Lin Fan's mind:

The Black Obsidian Organization's behind-the-scenes actions were likely utilizing the resources and technology of the Red Abyss to achieve some secretive goal.

And this goal was closely related to the password in the old notebook and the research at the High-Dimensional Laboratory!

To further confirm his speculation, Lin Fan decided to find an opportunity to approach Shen He.

But before that, he had to steady Grand Commander Li Cangming first.

He reactivated the communication device and took the initiative to contact Grand Commander Li Cangming, his tone feigning respect and calmness:

"Grand Commander, I just reviewed the mission records and discovered that some details seem to be missing from the 'Special Partner' transport list. I need additional information to better execute the follow-up operations to eliminate Nightingale."

Grand Commander Li Cangming was silent for a moment, then responded coldly: "Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, don't ask about things you shouldn't. Is this something you should be worrying about?"

Lin Fan smiled slightly, inwardly noting the other party's reaction, and continued:

"It was my overthinking, subordinate apologizes. However, if I am needed to personally escort the next batch of supplies, I am willing to assist Dr. Shen in completing the mission."

Grand Commander Li Cangming did not directly refuse, but instead dropped a thought-provoking remark: "Wait for Shen He to contact you." He then hung up the communication.

Lin Fan put away the device, a coldness curling at the corner of his lips.

"Shen He will contact me? Very well, I will follow the trail and see what kind of tricks you are really trying to play."

His goal now was very clear: find the true operational methods of the Black Obsidian Organization through Shen He, and uncover the secret behind the "Light of Black Obsidian" project.

Lin Fan waited for less than two hours, and sure enough, Shen He contacted him.

Shen He's image appeared on the light screen—a middle-aged man with a thin build and sharp eyes.

There was a hint of wariness in his eyes, but more of disdain; clearly, Deputy Leader Ling Chuan did not hold a high position in his heart.

"Deputy Leader Ling Chuan, the Grand Commander had me contact you. You should understand the importance of this mission." Shen He got straight to the point, his voice low and cold.

Lin Fan did not change his expression, responding in the habitual tone of Deputy Leader Ling Chuan: "Of course I understand. I am on standby at any time to assist you in completing the plan."

Shen He nodded slightly, then turned and pulled up an interstellar map on the virtual light screen.

He pointed to a marginal Star Domain and said:

"The transport route for the next batch of supplies has been determined. These resources will be transported directly to a secret base codenamed 'Dark Star.' You are responsible for escorting it and ensuring no one follows."

"Dark Star Base?"

Lin Fan maintained his composure on the surface, but waves were churning in his heart.

This was the first time he had heard the name of a secret base of the Red Abyss.

It seemed that this was very likely an important stronghold of the Black Obsidian Organization within the Federation.

Shen He continued: "There must be no mistakes in this mission, especially since your previous failure to eliminate Nightingale has already disappointed the Grand Commander. If any more problems arise, you know the consequences yourself."

Lin Fan nodded, feigning guilt: "I understand. I will go all out this time."
