Chapter 62: Old Man Jimo

Wang Lin frowned slightly, just as he was about to retract the Whip Snake, a red Flying Sword phantom suddenly emerged from the small sword, and instantly slashed down with a speed surpassing its main body.

The Whip Snake immediately split into two, transforming into black wooden strips that fell from the sky.

The middle-aged man's eyes gleamed with killing intent. He flipped his right hand, sending out a red light, then joined two fingers and pointed at Wang Lin. Immediately, the Flying Sword swayed, its tip aimed at Wang Lin, emitting a chilling aura, and fiercely charged forward.

Wang Lin frowned, grabbed Zhang Hu, and flung him backward, while simultaneously retreating rapidly.

At this moment, the Flying Sword suddenly shone with red light, and the phantom reappeared. With a slight tremor, it shot out from the sword tip. Wang Lin only felt a flash of electric light, and the Flying Sword phantom was already close to him.

Wang Lin's expression changed. He flipped his right hand and threw out a Jade Slip from his Storage Pouch. As soon as the Jade Slip appeared, it immediately transformed into a semi-transparent blue light screen. The instant this light screen appeared, the Flying Sword phantom had already slashed down. Amidst a flickering interplay of cyan and red, the cyan light screen trembled, revealing faint spiderweb cracks, clearly unable to withstand the attack.

Wang Lin took a deep breath and exhaled a stream of Spiritual Qi. The light screen's color immediately changed from blue to cyan, and its semi-transparent state became murky.

The spiderweb cracks quickly healed, just barely blocking the Flying Sword's attack, but the Jade Slip cracked with a 'kacha' sound, revealing a subtle fissure.

“Oh?” The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes, gave Wang Lin a deep look, and said in a strange, mocking tone, “It seems you are not at the eighth layer of Qi Condensation. But even if you are at the Foundation Establishment Stage, you won't escape my Flying Sword alive.”

After speaking, the middle-aged man pointed with one hand, a solemn expression on his face. The Flying Sword trembled slightly, emitting a sword cry, then quickly retreated and re-entered its scabbard. This time, it sank to two-fifths of the way down, and its color changed from blue to black. With a low shout from the middle-aged man, the Flying Sword immediately unsheathed.

A cold light flashed in Wang Lin's eyes. This was his first battle since cultivating immortality. The opponent's cultivation was the same as his, but their Magic Treasure was quite strange. After a short period of engagement, he was already at a disadvantage and in mortal danger at any moment. Seeing the Flying Sword's color turn black now, its power had clearly increased, and the defensive Jade Slip he obtained from Zhou Peng likely wouldn't be able to resist it.

He no longer hesitated. Without a word, he patted his Storage Pouch, and an ancient Jade Talisman slowly rose, stopping in front of Wang Lin. As soon as this Jade Talisman appeared, it immediately emitted a majestic aura.

This Jade Talisman was the most powerful Magic Treasure in Sun Dazhu's Storage Pouch. However, when it was in Sun Dazhu's hands back then, this Magic Treasure was unremarkable and no different from ordinary items. But under Situ Nan's guidance, Wang Lin had successfully refined it and learned that this item was a Pill Treasure with the power of a single strike from a Core Formation Stage Cultivator.

Wang Lin didn't even blink. He opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of Spiritual Qi, formed Hand Seals with both hands, and quickly pointed. Tiny golden symbols suddenly and rapidly protruded from the Jade Talisman.

Wang Lin's expression remained unchanged. He stared coldly at the middle-aged man, killing intent surging in his eyes.

The middle-aged man's pupils suddenly constricted. After a slight hesitation, he finally gritted his teeth, opened his mouth, and spat out two more golden beads. The golden beads instantly turned into threads and drilled into the Flying Sword.

At this moment, the black Flying Sword was slightly flecked with gold. After circling once in mid-air, it charged towards Wang Lin with a strong whistling sound, as if tearing through space. Circles of black Vortexes faintly appeared around the Flying Sword.

The cold light in Wang Lin's eyes grew more intense. Ignoring the charging black Flying Sword, he pointed at the Jade Talisman in front of him with one hand. Suddenly, the golden symbols on the Jade Talisman flashed continuously. Symbols emerged from the Jade Talisman, arranged in a line, a total of nine symbols.

At this moment, the black Flying Sword came breaking through the air. Wang Lin formed Hand Seals, and three symbols quickly flashed, appearing in a 'pin' character formation around the Flying Sword. A golden electric light, visible to the naked eye, connected the three symbols, forming a prison that blocked the Flying Sword's offensive.

The Flying Sword, like a trapped beast, emitted intense sword cries, constantly charging back and forth within. Each time it charged, the three symbols would flash with golden light.

The middle-aged man's expression finally changed drastically, and he exclaimed in a lost voice, “This… is this a Pill Treasure?”

Wang Lin had heard about Pill Treasures from Situ Nan. Any Magic Treasure crafted by a Core Formation Stage expert was collectively referred to as a Pill Treasure.

The middle-aged man immediately showed fear in his eyes. He grabbed with a large hand, seizing the scabbard from a distance, and immediately retreated backward.

Wang Lin sneered. He changed his Hand Seals, and immediately the remaining six golden symbols lined up and charged towards the opponent.

The middle-aged man's fear deepened. While rapidly retreating, he continuously threw out several Jade Talismans from his Storage Pouch, hoping to buy himself a chance to escape.

As soon as these Jade Talismans appeared, before they could even take effect, they shattered under the impact of the golden characters, failing to provide any obstruction.

The middle-aged man revealed a desperate expression and exclaimed in shock, “Fellow Daoist, I am a Disciple of Old Man Jimo…”

Before he could finish speaking, the golden character had already arrived, striking his chest like lightning. The middle-aged man's face turned red, his chest rapidly caved in, and he spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.

The second character followed. The middle-aged man bled from his seven orifices, and his chest was silently pierced through.

The third character closely followed and imprinted itself. The middle-aged man's body shattered with a bang, turning into flying ash along with his Storage Pouch. Only the scabbard remained completely undamaged, falling from the sky.

Wang Lin took a deep breath, and with a single finger, he pointed at the Jade Talisman in front of him. The remaining three golden characters paused in their momentum and immediately retreated, re-merging into the Jade Talisman.

The black Flying Sword, trapped by the other three characters, immediately reduced its impact frequency as the middle-aged man died, eventually slowly stopping.

Wang Lin reached out and retracted his hand. The three characters trembled a few times, two of them dissipated, and only one, summoned by Wang Lin, returned to the Jade Talisman.

Wang Lin carefully placed the Jade Talisman back into his Storage Pouch. This Jade Talisman originally had only one attack, but during his four years of seclusion, under Situ Nan's guidance, he had divided the Jade Talisman's attack into nine, which, although less powerful than before, had the advantage of multiple uses.

After finishing these tasks, he let out a deep breath, sweat still beading on his forehead. This fierce battle was the most difficult Wang Lin had faced since cultivating immortality. His eyes flickered. The Gravity Spell transformed into a large hand, grabbing the scabbard and the Flying Sword, and he held them, examining them carefully.

“Wang Lin, it wasn't that I didn't act just now, but my Nascent Soul essence is limited and cannot be wasted casually. Furthermore, you will need to grow independently in the future, and more life-and-death battles will only benefit you, not harm you.” Situ Nan's voice was uncharacteristically serious.

Wang Lin nodded, not speaking, but instead played with the treasures in his hand with great interest.

“This Flying Sword is quite peculiar; that little brat just now didn't fully unleash its true potential. However, compared to this Flying Sword, the real treasure is actually that scabbard,” Situ Nan explained.
