Chapter 620: Asking for Trouble
The five people cautiously flew downward within this Rift Canyon. Wang Lin was not at the very front, but on the right side, sinking lower while observing the Rift Wall beside him.
The Rift Wall was extremely smooth, as if cut open by a Sharp Weapon. When Wang Lin touched it with his right hand, he immediately felt a wave of coldness transmit through his fingers into his body.
As the five continued to descend, the surroundings gradually grew darker. However, this darkness did not greatly affect a Cultivator; by condensing Immortal Power into their eyes, they could still see everything clearly.
The further down they went, the more Branch Rifts appeared, forming distributions that looked like tree branches. Each Branch Rift was like a cave, pitch black inside; some were so deep that even condensing Immortal Power into their eyes could not reveal the depths.
When the Branch Rifts became numerous, Du Jian paused and floated in mid-air. Murong Zhuo's expression was consistently cold; seeing Du Jian stop, he frowned slightly but did not speak.
Zhao Yixuan and Xu Fei, the two women, stopped and looked around. Those Branch Rifts looked like gaping mouths, waiting for prey to arrive.
"Everyone, there might be some treasures left inside these rifts. I expect the further down we go, the more such rifts there will be. Our goal here is treasure, so now it depends on each of our own abilities." After Du Jian finished speaking, he moved and floated toward one of the openings.
Murong Zhuo hesitated slightly before flying toward another opening.
"Senior Brother Wang, why don't you look around? You might find something," Zhao Yixuan said with a soft laugh.
Wang Lin shook his head, his gaze calm. He did not search the surroundings but continued flying downward.
Watching Wang Lin's retreating figure, Zhao Yixuan's eyes flashed, and she turned to explore a nearby opening. As for the delicate woman beside her, she followed closely behind.
While flying, Wang Lin looked back in the direction of the two women, a thoughtful look appearing in his eyes.
"Why do I always feel something strange about these two people…"
Lost in thought, Wang Lin retracted his gaze and looked down. This massive rift was bottomless; he didn't know how deep it went, but they had been flying for a long time since they stopped, yet still hadn't reached the bottom.
"Even Bellow's Crystal couldn't see through the bottom of the Tidal Abyss. It only revealed that the area below connects to a massive Corridor linked to five other entrances, but there is only one exit!"
Wang Lin's eyes flickered. He stopped sinking and instead flew upward. As soon as he moved, he immediately detected a heavy pressure coming from above.
"It is indeed so. This entrance allows entry but forbids exit. If one forcefully tries to leave through the entrance, the resistance faced will grow stronger and stronger."
After confirming his internal thoughts, Wang Lin stopped and carefully checked his surroundings. There were many rifts, all pitch black inside, but he merely glanced at them before withdrawing his gaze.
"Over countless years, many people must have visited this Tidal Abyss. Even if there were treasures in these rifts once, they are likely all empty now."
"Descending another hundred zhang will bring us to one of the difficult-to-cross areas I discovered when checking with the Crystal."
Wang Lin floated in mid-air, his expression calm. Not long after, Murong Zhuo was the first to fly down from above. He nodded slightly toward Wang Lin, stood aside, and after a brief silence, suddenly asked, "Fellow Daoist Wang, are you familiar with this place?"
Wang Lin glanced at Murong Zhuo and said, "A hundred zhang below, there is an Ancient Tree growing on the stone wall. This tree is very strange. Fellow Daoist Murong, you must be careful."
Murong Zhuo was startled, nodded, and said nothing more.
After a little while longer, Zhao Yixuan and Xu Fei flew over, with Du Jian following closely behind.
The five people regrouped. Clearly, none of them had found anything. They continued to descend. Wang Lin slowed his pace, falling behind the others. Murong Zhuo hesitated for a moment and did the same.
Du Jian, conversely, was now leading the way.
The distance of a hundred zhang was covered instantly for the five of them. Wang Lin kept his gaze fixed on the lower right. When he had checked with the Crystal, he found an Ancient Tree growing there. The tree was neither large nor remarkable, but when Wang Lin viewed it with the Crystal, a strong sense of danger immediately arose.
As they descended, his gaze sharpened, and he saw a withered tree, thicker than a man, on the Rift Wall in the lower right. The roots of this tree spread out densely, most of them suspended, while the others drilled deep into the Rift Wall.
The location where the tree grew was somewhat clever: directly above a rift. The dangling Root Tendrils covered the rift like a curtain. There were seven or eight such Ancient Trees along the way, but only this one caused a sense of crisis to rise in Wang Lin's heart.
A flash of crystalline purple light shimmered within the rift, looking like a Magic Treasure. Without needing Divine Sense to probe, his eyes alone could see that the trace of purple light emanated from a Flying Sword plunged into the wall.
This Flying Sword was extremely ancient and exuded a sharp Qi, clearly indicating it was no ordinary item.
Du Jian spotted the purple light immediately, his expression shifting. He instantly paused, looked closely at the Flying Sword, and cried out, "Tian Yun Personal Sword!"
As soon as he spoke, even Zhao Yixuan and Xu Fei were startled, and they followed Du Jian's gaze toward the rift.
Wang Lin observed coolly and immediately noticed that the delicate woman named Xu Fei was not looking at the rift but at the inconspicuous Ancient Tree above it, and a faint, almost imperceptible trace of coldness flashed in her eyes.
Du Jian took a deep breath, looked at the Flying Sword inside the rift, and said in a deep voice, "I know this sword. It is the Personal Sword of my Master, Tian Yunzi. Master had seven Personal Swords, which he gave to the Tian Yun Seven Sons of the Seven Lineages as Magic Treasures. However, over countless years, the Personal Swords of three lineages have disappeared along with their owners."
Speaking up to this point, he looked at Wang Lin, a look of hesitation on his Face, and said, "Junior Brother Wang, you must have heard of Sun Yun, right?"
Wang Lin's expression was normal, and he nodded.
Du Jian sighed softly and said, "When Sun Yun was dominating, I was just an ordinary Disciple of the Tian Yun Sect and hadn't yet been accepted into the Red Lineage by Master. But this sword, I remember clearly. This sword should be the Purple Lineage Personal Sword that Master gifted to Sun Yun after he became one of the Tian Yun Seven Sons!"
Wang Lin looked at the Flying Sword inside the rift but remained silent.
A cold glint flashed in Du Jian's eyes. He clasped his hands toward Murong Zhuo, Junior Sister Zhao, and Junior Sister Xu, saying, "Brother Murong, Junior Sister Zhao, Junior Sister Xu, this sword belongs to my Tian Yun Sect, and furthermore, it is a Purple Lineage Personal Sword. Today, I, Du, ask for Face from the three of you. How about this sword goes to my Junior Brother Wang? He is a Purple Lineage Disciple of my Tian Yun Sect, so obtaining this sword counts as returning the item to its rightful owner, and possessing this sword will immediately change his status within the Purple Lineage." Sincerity and emotion were evident in Du Jian's voice.
Although Murong Zhuo's eyes were cold, a strange flicker passed through them at this moment. He spoke concisely, saying, "No matter!"
Zhao Yixuan and Xu Fei naturally had no objections. Du Jian looked at Wang Lin, his eyes full of openness, and said, "Junior Brother Wang, my cultivation is lower than yours, but I entered the sect earlier, so I call you Junior Brother. Please don't take offense."
"This Personal Sword belongs to your Purple Lineage. Senior Brother will not seize it, nor will I allow anyone else to seize it. It is yours! I, Du, only hope that this sword, when wielded by you, can shine with the same brilliance as it did back then with Sun Yun."
Wang Lin gazed calmly at Du Jian. The man's expression was completely normal, accompanied by a gentle smile.
"In that case, thank you." Wang Lin gave a wry smile. He looked at Du Jian as if watching a toddler playing a cheap trick. Could this person truly believe he was a three-year-old child?
Wang Lin's smile made Du Jian feel a sudden sense of unease. He had indeed underestimated Wang Lin. In his mind, how could this Hick, who came from a Semi-Abandoned Planet to the Tian Yun Star, have been accepted as a Disciple by Tian Yunzi if he hadn't possessed enviable luck!
He had come here once before by himself, but he hadn't entered personally through the entrance; instead, he controlled a Puppet infused with his Divine Sense to enter. There, the Puppet was attacked by the Ancient Tree. That scene had frightened him so much that he dared not step into the Cloud Mist Mountain Sea for a long time.
Only after finding Murong Zhuo and the others did he dare to set foot here again this time.
He was confident Wang Lin couldn't see through his intentions, especially since the Ancient Tree looked so ordinary, and several identical Ancient Trees had appeared along the way, none of which showed any aggression.
Wang Lin patted his Storage Pouch, and the Curved Blade flashed out from within. With a toss, a black light flashed, instantly flying directly into the rift. The speed of the Curved Blade was too fast; it instantly entered and, with a sweep, directly rolled up the Flying Sword and flew straight back to Wang Lin.
All this happened extremely fast, so fast that the withered tree above the rift didn't seem to react. The Curved Blade flew back, and the crystalline Flying Sword landed in Wang Lin's hand.
Holding the Flying Sword, Wang Lin's expression gradually turned cold. With a squeeze, the sword collapsed with a bang, scattering into fragments, and the purple light vanished in a flash.
This was no Tian Yun Personal Sword at all; it was clearly just a piece of Mortal Iron, deliberately shaped to look like a Magic Treasure and thrown into the rift to set a trap.
Wang Lin looked at Du Jian, his gaze remaining calm.
Du Jian's expression was ugly. He retreated a few steps and said apologetically, "Junior Brother Wang, I misidentified this sword…"
A cold light flashed in Wang Lin's eyes. He rarely provoked others in his life, but if someone provoked him, he would show no mercy! This was the cruel Cultivation World, and the consequence of being too weak was death.
Stepping forward, Wang Lin grabbed at the Void Realm with his right hand, transforming it into a Violent Gale that shot straight toward Du Jian. Du Jian's expression changed drastically. He quickly retreated, shouting, "Wang Lin, what is the meaning of this!!"
But with his cultivation, it was difficult to dodge in this narrow space. Even Instant Movement couldn't evade Wang Lin's Divine Ability integrated with his Soul Transformation Dao Concept. With a sweep, a Fierce Wind suddenly arose. Although it couldn't kill Du Jian, who possessed a life-saving item from Tian Yunzi, it directly swept his body toward the Ancient Tree.
At that instant, a piercing buzz came from the Ancient Tree. The tree collapsed, transforming into countless finger-sized Flying Insects that rushed out like a dense cloud.
This was no Ancient God; it was clearly a manifestation formed by the gathering of these massive numbers of Flying Insects.
