Chapter 64: Sunset Mountain Range (1)
The Sunset Mountain Range was vast and immense, with continuous mountain chains and towering ancient trees. All sorts of rare birds and exotic beasts appeared and disappeared intermittently.
The mountain range spanned the area of an entire province. Deep within its central region, countless precious medicinal herbs grew.
Demonic Beasts possessed territorial instincts. The more powerful a Demonic Beast was, the more likely it occupied the central, innermost areas of the mountain range. Consequently, very few people could enter. Over countless millennia, the accumulation of precious medicinal herbs had become innumerable.
Nangong Liuyun led Su Luo along a winding, narrow path from the eastern side.
"How much longer until we see the Armored Ridgeback Dragon?" A few delicate strands of bangs curved gently on Su Luo's forehead, framing a pair of large, sparkling, crystalline eyes as clear as jade, giving her an indescribable, dewy charm.
They had already been in the mountain range for two days, but during this time, all they had encountered were Demonic Beast rabbits and Demonic Beast river deer. This indicated they were still circling the outer perimeter.
"The Armored Ridgeback Dragon is in the Central Forest. It will take at least another three or four days." Nangong Liuyun affectionately patted her head, his beautiful eyes concealing traces of tender affection. "What's the matter? Tired already?"
Nangong Liuyun's voice carried a faint note of concern.
Standing close, Su Luo could smell the faint, pleasant scent on him—a warm, gentle fragrance reminiscent of summer, so delightful it made one almost reluctant to leave his side.
"Not exactly." Su Luo pointed regretfully at the medicinal plants around them. "Look, hundred-year-old lingzhi mushrooms and hundred-year-old ginseng are everywhere, but we can't take them. What a pity. If I had a spatial storage, I'd definitely sweep up all these precious herbs."
"The efficacy of these is too low." Nangong Liuyun shook his head, saying disdainfully, "Once we enter the Central Forest, you'll understand. I guarantee you'll be able to gather herbs to your heart's content then."
Nangong Liuyun added another sentence: "The herbs deep within the Central Forest are even more precious, so it's not worth gathering these. Don't waste time here."
"By the way, those people have been following us. Is that alright?" Su Luo looked up, her clear, watery eyes gazing seriously at Nangong Liuyun.
Ever since Nangong Liuyun saved Liu Ruohua two days prior, that small team had closely followed them into the Sunset Mountain Range.
However, they maintained a distance, neither too far nor too close, and hadn't approached to greet them.
A flicker of suspicion passed through Su Luo's eyes.
She didn't know what Nangong Liuyun was thinking this time, actually allowing them to follow behind, even though they kept a distance of about a hundred meters.
But based on Nangong Liuyun's usual temperament, shouldn't he have shown an annoyed expression and driven those people away?
So, was he plotting something? Su Luo wondered in her heart.
"Even trash can have some use. So, one should make the best use of everything and not waste resources casually." This was Nangong Liuyun's reply.
However, this answer only puzzled Su Luo more.
Seeing the girl before him with her misty, beautiful eyes shifting, yet utterly perplexed, Nangong Liuyun found it utterly adorable.
Nangong Liuyun smiled mysteriously and affectionately patted her head. "You'll know soon enough."
His voice was warm, gentle, and lazily charming, exceptionally pleasant to hear.
Within the forest, ancient trees towered, and vegetation was lush and verdant, presenting a scene of pristine wilderness.
From a great distance, the deafening roars of Demonic Beasts could be heard.
What puzzled Su Luo somewhat was that Nangong Liuyun wasn't heading straight inward but was meandering in circles, as if searching for something.
"Afraid?" Nangong Liuyun's pair of violet eyes reflected the bright gleam of sunlight, gathering radiance like obsidian, carrying a hint of gentleness.
Although Su Luo possessed astonishing talent, she was still an ordinary person without any spiritual power. In this primitive jungle teeming with Demonic Beasts, no one knew what they might encounter.
