Chapter 73: Drinking Blood

Roars, wails, curses, and the sound of flesh being gnawed on continuously echoed in her ears, lingering without cease.

Among them was her mother.

She would never forget her mother, tears streaming down her face, roughly stuffing her into a box and yelling at her not to come out, not to make a sound, and to live well!

However, the car, already invaded, was in chaos. At that time, her mother couldn't think too much. After locking the box, she even subconsciously locked it.

Perhaps that would make it a bit safer.

But being torn apart by zombies, turning into a zombie, or starving to death in a small box…

It's hard to say which of these fates was better.

Hank's strength was immense; just how immense could be seen from the scattered corpses on the ground.

The sedans were fine; Hank could drag the zombies out and smash them to death on the ground. Therefore, the interiors of the sedans were relatively clean, as she intended to drive them away, and he intentionally kept the interiors clean.

However, large vehicles were a different story. They contained more zombies, and Hank was too lazy to drag all of them out, so he dealt with them inside the vehicles.

Colette looked at the remnants of corpses covering the car's interior, and a deep sense of powerlessness welled up in her heart.

Having personally heard the entire process of her mother's death, coupled with the zombies all around, Colette had lost the will to live.

After all, she was still a child, and all of this was too overwhelming for her.

And now, even the thought of finding her mother's final remains could not be realized.

Forget it, let it end like this.

Colette stepped over severed limbs and remains, ignoring the blood that splattered onto her trousers. She returned to the iron box that had trapped her, closed her eyes, and shut herself inside the small iron box.

A deep weariness welled up in Colette's heart. Fearing that the zombies outside would hear her, Colette dared not make a single sound.

Even though there were still many cans in the iron box, she dared not open them to eat.

Therefore, she hadn't eaten in a long time.

Curled up in the box, Colette gradually felt dizzy and lightheaded. She was very familiar with this feeling; it was exactly the same as when she used to have a fever.

When she had a fever before, her mother would always stay with her until she fell asleep, but now, there was no one around her.

In a daze, Colette had no idea how she fell asleep.

But she felt her body temperature rising and her head hurting more and more.

Even in a coma, the headache continued to torment her.

In the last moments of her consciousness, she felt as if she was being carried out of the box.

Colette subconsciously rubbed her head against the chest of the person holding her; it was hard and warm.

This was the last sensation she received before completely losing consciousness.

After an unknown period of time.

Colette suddenly opened her eyes.

“You’re awake.”

Let's rewind time a bit.

As the car drove further and further, Hank became increasingly agitated.

Perhaps it was because he didn't want to see that girl die alone, or perhaps it was for more selfish reasons.

He was too lonely; he just wanted someone by his side to tell him that he was still human, that he wasn't a monster!

But reason told him that he was indeed a monster in his current state; it was an undeniable fact that he couldn't deny.

But in the end, Hank still stepped on the brakes and turned the steering wheel.

He went back because the food in the trunk wasn't enough; indeed, that little bit of food wasn't even enough for him to swallow in one bite.

He had to go back and get more food, and by the way, yes, by the way, check on the girl's condition.

But upon checking, he discovered a problem.

Perhaps the hazy Colette only thought she had a fever, but Hank saw that she was infected!

It wouldn't be long before she turned into a zombie.

If he had arrived any later, perhaps opening the box would have resulted in a 'surprise' lunging at him.

Hank fell silent; he hadn't expected it to turn out this way.

Hank's gaze fixed on the wound on Colette's elbow, which she had scraped. The blood had already clotted, but the virus had already invaded her body.

Hank's mind replayed the image of the little girl chasing the car, then falling to the ground and scraping her arm.

It was precisely because of this that she came into contact with the filthy blood on the ground and became infected.

Hank had thought this little girl would die, but he hadn't expected her to die in such a frustrating way.

At this moment, Hank even had the thought of killing her.

Perhaps then she could die as a human, rather than a reeking zombie.

That wouldn't be cute.

But Hank couldn't bring himself to do it.

Nowadays, let alone a town, the chances of finding another living person besides him, even in a City, were pitifully small.

Now, the person he held in his arms might be the last living person.

How could he accept letting her die just like that!?

Hank, for whatever reason, slowly brought his wrist to his mouth, opened his fanged maw, and bit down hard!

Drip-drop ~

Crimson blood slowly flowed down, gathering by gravity and dripping from Hank's sharp claws.

Hank raised his hand to Colette's mouth. Sensing the liquid flowing into her mouth, Colette, who hadn't eaten in a long time, instinctively swallowed.

Hank then cleaned the blood on Colette's arm, wasting a precious bottle of water in the process.

After cleaning, he applied his own blood to Colette's wound. Then, he carried Colette to his car and placed her in the passenger seat.

He then filled the entire back seat of the car with food, and even tied everything usable onto the car roof.

This made the car look very bulky and ugly.

But Hank looked at it with great satisfaction.

No matter how unsightly it looked, the contents within were all treasures.

Thus, Hank left this place, taking Colette and the vehicle full of supplies.

The tire tracks stained with zombie blood stretched far, far away.

Hank was very anxious until Colette regained consciousness.

He didn't know if his blood would actually work.

Although he was immune to the zombie virus, that didn't mean that someone who drank his blood would also be immune to the zombie virus.

Moreover, he couldn't guarantee what changes would occur in a person who drank his blood.

Perhaps she would become a monster like him?

If that were the case, would she blame him?

Blame him for turning her into a monster?

Therefore, Hank was in agony for these few hours. Even his driving attention was not focused, and several times he almost crashed into the trees on either side.
