Chapter 75: Promise (I)
Bai Fan looked at her bleeding fingertip, a flash of heartache in his eyes.
He didn't say anything, but lowered his head and gently took her finger into his mouth, sucking on the wound.
"Brother Fan…" Bai Youyou was suddenly startled by his action, her cheeks instantly suffused with a crimson blush.
She struggled a little, but was gently held by Bai Fan's tender strength, unable to escape.
Panic flickered in her eyes, but in the end, she could only stand obediently in place, letting him treat her wound so intimately.
The warm sensation carried a faint tingle, like an electric current spreading from her fingertip throughout her entire body.
Bai Youyou felt weak all over, as if her whole body was about to melt into his arms.
"Brother Fan, I'm fine now… really."
"You, you're always so careless." Bai Fan sighed softly, let go of her finger, and gently stroked her fingertip with his thumb.
"Don't do this again next time, understand?"
Bai Youyou pursed her lips, her eyes filled with undisguised emotion and shyness. She nodded slightly.
"Mm… I know."
Bai Fan smiled slightly. He reached out and gently ruffled the top of her hair.
"Alright, I'll go help you move the bag to a hidden place. You go rest first, don't do any more work."
After saying this, Bai Fan walked over to the bulging bag, bent down slightly, and reached out to pick it up.
Seeing this, Bai Youyou's expression changed slightly. She quickly ran forward, stopped him, and said anxiously:
"Brother Fan, it's very heavy! Let's move it together!"
Her heart was full of worry; when she moved this bag earlier, she had to use her demonic power just to barely drag it.
Bai Fan was just an ordinary scholar; although he had an extraordinary temperament, his physical fitness was ultimately inferior to hers. What if he threw out his back?
"I'll handle it."
A smile curled the corners of Bai Fan's mouth. Without further ado, he walked around her and grabbed the bag with one hand.
Bai Youyou wanted to stop him, but the next moment, she was stunned.
She saw Bai Fan easily lift the bag, his movements so fluid that it seemed as if the bag were just an ordinary sack, without any sign of exertion.
"It's not that heavy." Bai Fan carried the bag effortlessly and turned his head to smile at her.
Bai Youyou widened her eyes, her heart filled with shock and disbelief:
"You… how is this possible?!"
She stared blankly at Bai Fan, feeling that the scene before her was somewhat unreal. Could she be seeing things?
But Bai Fan was completely unaware of her shocked state. He went on to move the bag to a hidden corner against the wall, then brushed the dust off his hands, looking relaxed and at ease.
"Youyou, what's wrong?" Bai Fan asked with concern, seeing her standing there frozen.
"You… you were never an ordinary person!"
Bai Fan scratched his head and gave a helpless smile:
"I really am an ordinary person! I don't know what happened, but my body suddenly became much stronger…"
"I was beaten up yesterday, but after I woke up, my whole body was full of strength, and it felt like I had gained some kind of cultivation."
"What?" Bai Youyou was dumbfounded, her heart filled with disbelief.
Bai Youyou pondered to herself, and suddenly remembered something:
"I have heard that there are indeed some people with an Innate Holy Body, but their meridians are blocked. If they are cleared, they will undergo a rebirth, possessing powerful cultivation and strength."
"Innate Holy Body? What is that?"
"It is a rare talent with great potential, but due to Innate deficiencies, the body cannot unleash its true strength."
Bai Youyou explained, her eyes filled with longing and admiration.
"An Innate Holy Body, after going through Cultivate, will have limitless future achievements!"
Bai Youyou lowered her head, a trace of worry suddenly appearing on her face.
"But, if you want to embark on the path of Cultivate, you will have to experience all kinds of life-and-death adventures."
"You already promised to take care of me; if you get yourself killed in some remote corner, what will I do!"
Bai Fan laughed: "Silly girl, the Medicine God Valley has been a family of great scholars for generations and disdains embarking on the path of Cultivate, so naturally, I will not set foot on the road of Cultivate either."
"But… if your potential is wasted, wouldn't that be a pity?"
Bai Youyou blinked her large eyes, feeling somewhat disappointed.
"I know you're worried about me, but I still want to succeed as a scholar. This has always been my dream."
Bai Fan looked serious; this was something he had to do.
In the time that followed, the time Bai Fan and Bai Youyou spent together became increasingly warm.
They repaired the wooden house together; Bai Youyou was always busy here and there with her nimble little hands, while Bai Fan quietly read books on the side.
Every evening, they would sit at the doorway, and Bai Fan would take out his books, the sound of his clear reading echoing in the air.
Bai Youyou would lie to the side, listening quietly, occasionally looking up, her eyes filled with admiration and longing.
One day, Bai Fan was sitting on the fence in the courtyard, reading quietly. A gentle breeze blew, carrying a hint of coolness.
Sunlight filtered through the branches and leaves, casting dappled light and shadows, adding a touch of leisurely and otherworldly temperament to him.
Suddenly, a dainty figure came bounding over.
Bai Youyou's bright eyes shone with excitement; she snatched the book from Bai Fan's hands. Before Bai Fan could react, he heard her call out sweetly:
"Brother Fan, look what I found!"
Bai Fan paused, shifted his gaze from the pages, and looked at Bai Youyou in front of him.
She smiled like a flower, standing prettily before him with both hands held high, and in her palms lay two plump, vibrant spirit fruits.
"Hurry and try it, it's so sweet!"
Bai Youyou shoved the spirit fruit into Bai Fan's hand, her eyes full of anticipation and pride, just like a child who had found some amazing treasure and couldn't wait to share it.
Looking at her eyes filled with joy, Bai Fan couldn't help but smile. He took the spirit fruit and took a gentle bite; the sweet juice instantly spread in his mouth, the taste was indeed extremely delicious.
"Mm, it is indeed very sweet." He nodded, gently ruffled her head, and said, "Thank you, Youyou."
A satisfied smile appeared on Bai Youyou's face, and she said coquettishly: "I knew you would like it! I wandered in the forest for a long time before I found it."
Bai Fan smiled without a word, just looking at her dotingly, warmth surging in his heart.
Another day, Bai Fan held a book and strolled along the lakeside, his gaze leisurely sweeping over the sparkling surface of the lake, his mood exceptionally relaxed.
Bai Youyou followed cautiously behind him, afraid that he might accidentally misstep and fall into the lake.
"Hey, Brother Fan, there's a pit ahead, be careful!"
Seeing that the soil ahead was soft, Bai Youyou quickly trotted a few steps, blocked in front of Bai Fan, and spread her hands, like a little bird protecting its young.
Just as Bai Fan was about to say something, he saw Bai Youyou slip. Before she could react, she let out a cry, lost her balance, and fell backward.
Seeing this, Bai Fan hurriedly reached out to pull her, but accidentally lost his own center of gravity and fell down with her.
Both of them fell onto the soft grass. Subconsciously, Bai Fan shielded Bai Youyou in his arms to prevent her from getting hurt.
"Ah! Oh."
Bai Youyou wrinkled her nose and glared at Bai Fan coquettishly. Just as she was about to say something, she suddenly felt Bai Fan's breath right beside her ear, and her cheeks turned red all at once.
The two were pressed tightly against each other, and Bai Youyou's breath was soft and scorching, as if it had heated the air to a burning temperature.
