Chapter 965: The Method of Severing the Three Corpses
Hearing Old Man Shi's voice, a sharp glint flashed in Qi Yuan's eyes. He immediately stopped and asked with some confusion:
"What deal?"
Even now, he still had no trust in Old Man Shi, the standard "portable grandpa" for a Child of Destiny; their relationship was more about mutual exploitation.
Even though the other party had revealed quite a bit of useful information, Qi Yuan knew in his heart that this old fogey was hiding even more!
Especially Old Man Shi's account of his own origins; thinking back now, it was full of holes and ridiculously fake, clearly treating his younger, inexperienced self like a fool.
Of course, This person Qi was no pure and selfless moralist, nor did he have much of a moral complex. As long as Old Man Shi could offer enough chips, he didn't mind hearing what the old man had up his sleeve.
After experiencing the ups and downs of the Primordial Era, Qi Yuan had long since become disillusioned with those so-called big shots of the Immortal Realm. Even Immortal Emperors had their own selfish motives and schemes; they weren't absolutely upright or free of desires.
No matter the level, the exchange of interests and getting what each needs is the norm in human interaction…
"Don't be nervous, little friend. The deal I'm talking about has no downsides for you. On the contrary, it's a win-win bargain."
Seeing that Qi Yuan didn't refuse immediately, Old Man Shi seemed to breathe a small sigh of relief. His voice became steadier as he spoke persuasively:
"I need you to use this Reincarnation technique to allow my remnant soul, which is attached to this immortal ring, to be reborn into a special world called the Yuan Realm!"
"In exchange, I can tell you the true origins of the Lin Kid and this otherworldly Cultivator. Once you have this information, when you reach the Immortal Realm, you can protect yourself and avoid being affected by the upcoming Great Tribulation at the very least, or use it to climb the ranks of the Immortal Court and achieve great success at best…"
Hearing Old Man Shi's words, Qi Yuan's eyes widened, and a look of surprise appeared on his face.
This old guy… actually wants to be reborn into the Yuan Realm?
And from his words, he seemed to be grouping Lin Zhen and Mo Wentian—two enemies who had absolutely nothing to do with each other—together…
After a brief moment of shock, he pretended to be ignorant and asked:
"Where is the Yuan Realm? Why would you go there instead of the Immortal Realm?"
Perhaps to gain his trust, Old Man Shi didn't hold anything back and explained directly:
"The Yuan Realm is a divine domain created by the Western Mother Divine Venerable. It has vast territories, abundant resources, and is home to billions of living beings. In terms of livability, it's not much worse than the Immortal Realm."
"More importantly, it is protected by a deity and can be described as a peaceful pure land far from conflict. If I can be reincarnated there, I can escape Karma and avoid the upcoming Great Calamity of the Immortal Realm. At the very least, it's better than being stranded outside and facing disaster…"
No wonder he couldn't help but jump out to make a deal; it turns out this old guy treats the Yuan Realm as a safe haven!
Thinking of this, Qi Yuan couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, his estimation of Old Man Shi's identity rising another level.
Neither the existence of the Yuan Realm nor the news of the upcoming Great Calamity were things an ordinary Mahayana Realm old man could know!
His thoughts turning, he had more or less figured out Old Man Shi's plan. He cast a calm glance at the unconscious Lin Zhen and Mo Wentian and asked in a low voice:
"Brother Lin is just an ordinary Lower Realm Cultivator, while this otherworldly Cultivator is the founding Grandmaster of the Yin Sha Sect. Their identities are worlds apart; why would you put them together?"
Due to the information gap, Old Man Shi naturally couldn't tell that a certain someone was playing dumb, so he answered quite straightforwardly:
"Little Friend Lin has a special fate and astonishing Luck; he is definitely no ordinary Lower Realm Cultivator. I was also puzzled by his origins, but my abilities were limited, so I only thought he was some Immortal reincarnated in the Lower Realm."
"It wasn't until he was recently taken into this reincarnation treasure mirror and experienced an illusory Reincarnation that I suddenly realized he and this otherworldly Cultivator actually share the same source—they are both the reward bodies of some great figure!"
Hearing this, Qi Yuan was shocked and blurted out:
"What is a reward body?"
Old Man Shi pondered for a moment before slowly saying:
"Do you know… the Method of Severing the Three Corpses?"
The Method of Severing the Three Corpses?
Since this term once again touched upon his blind spot of knowledge, Qi Yuan looked dazed and subconsciously widened his eyes.
Seeing this, Old Man Shi had to explain it in as simple a way as possible:
"Severing the three corpses is a profound method of attaining the Dao, as well as a secret of the Immortal Court. After a Cultivator reaches a certain level, in order to continue their Breakthrough, some great powers of the Immortal Realm will use this method to sever various karmic distractions and keep themselves absolutely pure."
"The so-called three corpses are the Cultivator's 'good self', 'evil self', and 'true self'. Once all three corpses are severed, one can take a step further and reach a higher state of transcendence!"
Severing the three corpses!
Qi Yuan's gaze narrowed slightly, and he couldn't help but blurt out:
"You mean Lin Zhen and Mo Wentian are both three corpses reward bodies severed by some great power?"
"Correct!"
Old Man Shi's voice was firm, clearly very certain of his judgment:
"If I'm not mistaken, Little Friend Lin is precisely the 'good self' of a certain great being, inheriting much of that being's merit within the Heavenly Dao. He is born with the five virtues, possesses abundant Luck, and is favored by the Heavenly Dao!"
"And the other otherworldly Cultivator is the 'evil self' of that great power. When the 'evil self' sees the 'good self', it instinctively feels a sense of greed. As long as it successfully devours the 'good self', the 'evil self' can merge with the 'good self', and its cultivation will advance significantly…"
Holy shit!!!
Although Old Man Shi never mentioned who the "great power" he spoke of was, Qi Yuan already knew in his heart, and he thought of even more things!
It turns out Lin Zhen and Mo Wentian are both three corpses severed by Immortal Emperor Donghua before he left the Heavenly Dao!
His younger Brother Lin Zhen is honest and simple-hearted, with a kind nature; even the immortal seat of the Blood Yan Fairy couldn't corrupt him. He clearly represents the kind side of Immortal Emperor Donghua.
Mo Wentian, on the other hand, belongs to the other extreme. Not only is he cruel and ruthless, but he also has no bottom line in his actions. For his own selfish gain, he doesn't hesitate to wreak havoc on all living beings, not even sparing his own disciples and descendants. He represents the evil side of Immortal Emperor Donghua.
As his thoughts raced, Qi Yuan's eyelids twitched wildly, but he soon accepted this seemingly ridiculous setting.
What made him feel even more terrified to think about was that, following this conjecture, he could even guess where the Immortal Emperor's 'true self' was…
Duanmu Xi from the Primordial Era—or rather, the now-renowned Immortal Lord Xixuan of the Immortal Court—was likely the 'true self' that the Immortal Emperor had first severed!
After a long moment of confusion, Qi Yuan barely managed to suppress the many doubts in his heart and spoke with a serious expression:
"Old Man Shi, I can make this deal with you, but you must first tell me… who on earth are you? Why do you know about such secretive matters?"
