Civil War Crasher
Marvel Multiverse!
Duke, who had been traveling through countless worlds, was now facing a terrible situation: he was lost. Having obtained the Space Stone for the first time, he lacked sufficient understanding of world-hopping and had made an extremely basic mistake—he had failed to leave behind coordinates, such as a navigational beacon, in his original world.
Faced with countless open doors, he had no idea which one to push open!
"Too reckless!" Duke sighed dejectedly, lowering his head. If he had known that the Marvel universe contained nearly infinite worlds, he would have made thorough preparations.
The tragedy had already happened, and saying more was useless. Fortunately, he was not entirely without options! After jumping through several worlds, Duke had worked out a few crude, basic patterns.
He discovered that worlds with different story frameworks had completely different auras emanating from their doors. Worlds inhabited by Chosen Ones like Punisher, Blade, Ghost Rider, and other antiheroes radiated overwhelming malice even through the door. Meanwhile, the doors to worlds brimming with positive energy, home to paragons of the industry like Spider-Man and Captain America, were like clear springs cleansing the soul… they glowed!
Even so, careful sensing revealed slight differences between heroes of similar styles. Even antiheroes were not exactly alike: Punisher’s brutality, Blade’s resolve, Ghost Rider’s chaos—their most distinctive traits were written clearly upon the doors.
Deadpool deserved a mention here. Any world connected to that bastard had an incredibly heavy taste; you could smell that lewd stench from miles away. It was practically missing only five words written on the door: "Suck my big D!"
In short, every hero had distinct characteristics, and those vivid personalities written on the doors were like house numbers, indicating which world they belonged to. If it was a league world where heroes gathered in groups, it was even easier to identify—the door plaque would be packed full, obvious even to a blind man.
Using this pattern, Duke instantly eliminated the vast majority of worlds!
In fact, if worlds did not reject outsiders and prevent Duke from leaving his name on their doors, he would have returned home immediately.
Probably because he was an outsider, Duke’s treatment was worlds apart from that of the superheroes. The superheroes were homeowners holding contracts, while he was like a short-term tenant bullied by the landlord. The world did not mind letting him stay, but there was no way it would let him add his name to the door.
No rights for transmigrators!
The miserable Duke could only travel through worlds with similar auras one by one, feeling his way through them. First, the world had to have Captain America and Iron Man. Then there also had to be heroes who had appeared before, such as Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk.
Great!
After rounds of elimination, Duke happily discovered that there were still roughly tens of thousands of worlds similar to his home world.
That felt unbelievably sour and refreshing!
Speaking of sour and refreshing, Duke’s nerves were somewhat fatigued after crossing worlds so many times in succession. He decided to relax properly in the next world—have a meal, take a bath, then enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Bucharest, the capital of Romania!
On the broad airfield, two groups stood facing one another, and the air was thick with grave killing intent.
On the left, Captain America Steve took the lead, with Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, and Falcon standing behind him.
On the right, Iron Man Stark led the team, accompanied by Black Panther, War Machine, Black Widow, Spider-Man, and Vision.
Six against six in the Civil War, with equal numbers on both sides. In terms of raw Power Level alone, Stark’s side had the greater total. But Steve’s team was not without a chance, because they possessed the greatest variable—the busty witch.
Of course, raw Power Level could not be used as a reference for judging the strength of superheroes. Who was stronger could only be determined by fighting.
"Steve! I know you believe you’re doing the right thing, but for the good of everyone, you must surrender now!" Stark said earnestly. He did not want to see Captain America fall because of a heinous criminal, even if that criminal had grown up wearing the same pair of pants as him.
Falcon clenched his fists and asked Steve, "Captain, what do we do?"
"Fight!"
Steve gave the order without hesitation. Based on his extensive investigation, his best buddy Joker… Winter Soldier Bucky had been framed. The true culprit was carrying out an extremely dangerous plan from behind the scenes. He had no time to explain further to the people opposite him, and he knew Stark would not listen anyway.
"We’re going in too!" Seeing the other side charge, Stark’s heart sank, and he was the first to shoot into the air.
Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Falcon, Black Panther, War Machine, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Vision, Captain America, and Iron Man. Twelve extraordinary superheroes with different abilities charged toward their respective opponents under the leadership of the two men.
Magic at the ready, weapon systems locked on, weapons drawn… The charging formations closed in, and everyone could feel the flames of war on the verge of erupting. The superheroes wore solemn expressions. Their former comrades had become enemies blocking their path, and none of them felt good about it. But this battle concerned their convictions—they could not afford to lose.
"Steve, stop being so stubborn!"
"Stark, you’re the one who’s wrong!"
The two Avengers leaders shouted furiously and raised their fists at one another. Years of comradeship and personal friendship ended with that punch. Their hearts… were exhausted.
Just then, an unexpected change occurred.
With a swish, a blurred figure solidified. Duke appeared in the middle of the battlefield with Deathstrike slung over his shoulder. Looking at the two fists rapidly closing in on his handsome face, he was momentarily unable to process what was happening.
The charging formation abruptly came to a halt, and the superheroes slammed on the brakes, barely avoiding crashing into one another. But Steve and Stark could not stop in time. Duke had appeared at the perfect moment, exactly one second before their fists collided.
Thud! Thud!
Two muffled groans!
The superheroes watched in astonishment as their two leaders were sent flying backward in the blink of an eye at speeds far exceeding their charge, smashing heavily into the ground and rolling several times.
Silence fell over the scene as everyone looked at one another wordlessly. It had happened too fast; they had not seen what occurred.
"Is this your newest way of welcoming guests?" Duke asked as he shoved Deathstrike headfirst into the concrete with a clang, then blew on his fists.
"Who are you?" Captain America asked as he got up, shook his dizzy head, and walked forward.
On the other side, Stark also flew into the air. All twelve superheroes went on guard. Though no one knew who Duke was, anyone who could send both Iron Man and Captain America flying in an instant was definitely no harmless character.
Faced with an unknown enemy whose intentions were unclear, they immediately cast aside their dispute and reached a consensus: take this weirdo down first!
He possessed Teleportation and formidable close-quarters combat ability, yet carried around a metallic humanoid doll with the figure of a voluptuous beauty. In their eyes, Duke was plainly a weirdo!
"Wait, everyone…" Just as everyone tensed up, Vision suddenly widened his eyes. Staring in shock at the ring Duke wore, he said in a trembling voice, "The Tesseract…!"
"What!?"
"The ring in his hand is the Tesseract!" Vision swallowed hard.
"Impossible. Thor took the Tesseract back to Asgard! Unless… unless…" Stark stopped halfway through, but everyone understood what he meant.
Unless the Tesseract had been stolen from Asgard!
The superheroes recalled a certain unlucky reindeer god who had used the Tesseract to summon an army of Aliens in an attempt to conquer Earth. If several founding Avengers had not risked their lives to close the Space Portal, Earth would have long become the backyard of evil Aliens.
At that thought, everyone, including Black Panther and Winter Soldier, put aside their grudges and turned their attention toward Duke. Having suffered greatly before, the people of Earth did not want to be fooled again. The Tesseract absolutely could not be held by someone of unknown origin.
"Buddy, are you Evil God Number Two? I have to say, your luck is much worse than his. You don’t stand a chance. Hand over the Tesseract." Mechanisms whirred all over Stark’s body as missiles and lasers were deployed. Infrared targeting dots swept over Duke, who was surrounded on all sides.
"No, no, you’ve misunderstood! I only came to Earth to grab a quick meal, nothing else." Duke stroked the ring on his hand. "Besides, the Space Stone in Asgard is still in Odin’s Vault. The one in my hand is private property; it doesn’t belong to this world."
"What do you mean… are you not from this world?" Stark asked in alarm.
"That’s right. Talking to smart people is pleasant. I come from another universe. I’m only passing through this world, and I’ll be leaving soon."
"Are you saying the multiverse really exists?" Stark asked eagerly, suddenly interested.
"Yes, the multiverse does indeed exist!"
