Compromise

"Take care. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!"

Watching Nick Fury’s departing back, Chen Mu spoke calmly.

"…" Nick Fury paused, but he did not turn around and simply left.

If he stayed any longer, he would only keep suffering indignities.

How could the lofty Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. continue to put up with this kind of treatment?

"Phew, that was a relief."

After Nick Fury left, Bruce Banner could not help letting out a sigh of relief.

"So? Isn’t that guy incredibly hypocritical?"

Chen Mu asked Bruce Banner with a smile.

"From what I know, S.H.I.E.L.D. has collaborated extensively with the U.S. military. Even the Gamma Bomb I developed had their involvement."

And now, not only did he pretend to know nothing, he even turned the tables and claimed that researching such dangerous weapons was inhumane. Who exactly did he think had made the thing in the first place?

And who was it that had brazenly used it on the battlefield, without any concern for whether there were innocent civilians in the war zone?

Nick Fury really did have skin thicker than a city wall.

But as the saying went, thick skin got you meat. S.H.I.E.L.D. had grown to its current scale in no small part because of Director Nick Fury’s shamelessness.

"The negotiations between the God Spear Bureau and S.H.I.E.L.D. have reached a conclusion."

Watching Nick Fury leave, Xu Jia turned to Chen Mu and continued, "S.H.I.E.L.D. saw the power of the Kirin Armor, so the negotiations went smoothly. S.H.I.E.L.D. agreed to withdraw its forces from Hua Country and establish an offensive and defensive alliance with the God Spear Bureau."

Of course, this so-called alliance was nothing more than a scrap of paper. Whether either side was willing to abide by it depended entirely on their mood.

"However, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s only request now is for two suits of armor. Before long, two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will come over so the armor can be custom-fitted for them."

"Two suits? What did Zheng Xian say?"

"The Director agreed."

To Chen Mu, one suit or two made no difference. Armor was merely something mass-produced on an assembly line to him, and it had no impact on him whatsoever.

"Fine. When S.H.I.E.L.D.’s people arrive, send them directly to the industrial park and have the armor custom-made there."

"There will be one male and one female model. The wearers will personally come to the industrial park. They also wanted custom weapons, but Director Zheng Xian refused."

One man and one woman, and they wanted individually customized weapons. They had to be S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Hawkeye and Black Widow.

Only those two had weapons that were anything but ordinary.

Hawkeye would definitely use a bow and arrows. As for Black Widow, she had used a great variety of weapons from beginning to end. As for the armor, it would depend on what weapons she wanted equipped.

However, the Huaqiangbei Industrial Zone was not, in name, an arms company. It had no qualification to manufacture weapons at all. The Kirin Armor it had always produced consisted only of the outer shell, with space reserved for weapon installations.

The weapons were all produced by established domestic arms manufacturers. Chen Mu merely provided the blueprints.

Therefore, faced with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s request, the God Spear Bureau directly refused.

S.H.I.E.L.D. did not dwell on it too much, though. The weapons displayed by the Kirin Armor in its battle against Hulk had been rather dazzling and had even forced Hulk into a desperate situation.

But they did not seem particularly high-tech, merely miniature guided missiles and energy emitters.

S.H.I.E.L.D. did not lack either of those technologies.

Therefore, Nick Fury was not dissatisfied by the God Spear Bureau’s rejection.

Being able to obtain two suits of armor as he wished already satisfied him greatly.

Having his two most trusted subordinates, Hawkeye and Black Widow, equipped with such powerful weapons would also significantly increase S.H.I.E.L.D.’s strength.

However, after making inquiries through various channels and learning how many Kirin Armor suits the God Spear Bureau currently possessed, Nick Fury felt thoroughly miserable.

Look at Chen Mu. After developing the Kirin Armor, he had handed it over to his country’s organization without hesitation. In just one or two months, he had drastically increased an entire nation’s strength.

Not to mention anything else, with its hundred existing suits of Kirin Armor alone, the God Spear Bureau’s strength had leapt to the top tier in the world.

At this point, no other organization could stand shoulder to shoulder with the God Spear Bureau.

Not to mention that the God Spear Bureau was continuously producing armor, and its strength would only continue to rise.

Then look at Tony Stark from his own country. He had clearly developed the Iron Armor first. Such a formidable weapon, yet what had he done?

He kept it tucked away like some precious secret, unwilling to let even a single suit fall into anyone else’s hands.

If Tony Stark could have authorized S.H.I.E.L.D. to use the Iron Armor as Chen Mu had done,

then with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s capabilities, it could quickly equip a large number of Iron soldiers.

At that point, a powerful S.H.I.E.L.D. could sweep across the entire world without issue.

However, unlike America’s scheming upper echelon, and unlike those profit-chasing capitalists who had driven America to wage all kinds of wars across Earth, Nick Fury truly looked down on those people.

After all, he knew full well that there were quite a few aliens in this universe.

When he was young, he had resisted an alien invasion. His friend, Captain Marvel Danvers, was still somewhere in the cosmos, fighting the evil forces of the universe.

There were countless other civilizations in the universe, and Earth would sooner or later be drawn into them.

Although S.H.I.E.L.D. was America’s lackey, under Nick Fury’s leadership, it had always remained vigilant against invasions from beyond Earth.

In that regard, Nick Fury deserved some praise.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was not completely worthless.

The reason S.H.I.E.L.D. had chosen to compromise with the God Spear Bureau was also because it valued the other side’s strength.

Though it was somewhat regrettable that it could not control that power itself, it was still an Earth-based force. If Earth truly faced an alien invasion one day, the God Spear Bureau would be a force that could not be ignored.

Perhaps when some major crisis arose in the future, the God Spear Bureau could serve as a major source of support in dealing with it.

Unlike other organizations, the God Spear Bureau belonged to Hua Country’s official government, and Hua Country was not truly all that aggressive.

At the very least, the existence of the God Spear Bureau did not make Nick Fury afraid.

Although America often exaggerated the threat posed by Hua Country, America’s upper echelon actually understood very clearly that as long as they did not go too far, Hua Country was not much of a threat at all.

After all, according to think tank analysis, the probability of Hua Country proactively invading another nation was basically zero.

Of course, that was not the main reason Nick Fury had compromised so quickly.

The main reason was that the God Spear Bureau was simply too powerful, and S.H.I.E.L.D. had no means of opposing it.

So he could only endure it. Being able to obtain two suits of such armor had already made Nick Fury somewhat satisfied.
