Everything Is Possible
"Master, President Rogers is here to see you."
Zhan Liu was slacking off as usual when Natasha came in to relay the message.
"He just took office. Instead of staying in the White House, he came all the way here? Let him in!"
Steve strode in wearing a suit, with his female aide, Saoji Carter, following closely behind.
He looked every inch a president, but his manner still carried a strong military air. After sitting down in front of Zhan Liu, he got straight to the point. "Master, I need your help."
Zhan Liu glanced at him and leisurely sipped his tea. "Why does everyone keep coming to me for favors? Do I look that easy to deal with?"
"In this world, it’s better to rely on yourself than ask others for help!"
"For ordinary people, that’s understandable. Without relying on the help of social organizations, there are many things they can’t do. But since you’ve already embarked on the path of cultivation, where great power is placed in your hands, why do you keep thinking about asking others for help?"
Zhan Liu looked at Steve teasingly.
"You need to put some pressure on yourself!"
"If you don’t force yourself a little, how will you know for sure that you can’t do it?"
"Look at Erik Lehnsherr, and then look at Erik Killmonger. Didn’t they both solve their problems with their own fists? You could learn from them!"
Steve’s face turned slightly awkward, but his days as a politician had finally helped him grow. At the very least, his skin was much thicker than before.
"Master, what do you think of the proposal I announced earlier?"
"Oh, I never watch the news unless you pass a law requiring all news reporters to broadcast in Chinese," Zhan Liu said lazily.
"Uh, Master, you know that’s impossible," Steve said with a bitter expression.
"What do you mean, impossible? Steve, this world is crazy. Anything is possible!" Zhan Liu took a sip of tea and slowly circled his finger around Steve and Saoji behind him.
"Even you, Captain America, became President of the United States. What else in this world could possibly be impossible?"
"Even you, Captain America, have started keeping a little secretary. Why couldn’t the news be broadcast in Chinese too?"
"Master, Saoji and I are just ordinary colleagues," Steve hurriedly explained.
"Heh, you may see her as a colleague, but she might not see you as one!" Zhan Liu had deliberately rummaged through her mind and discovered some rather interesting things, so he was intentionally trying to bring her and Steve together.
Steve turned toward Saoji in surprise. The usually open and cheerful Saoji blushed and turned her head away. At this point, even Steve, who was hopelessly dense, realized there was a problem.
"Uh…" He was briefly rendered speechless before quickly changing the subject. "Master, the proposal I submitted is intended to place all Magnetic Field Warriors under unified management…"
Upon hearing this, Zhan Liu suddenly burst out laughing. "Hahaha… management… that word…"
"Steve, how could management alone possibly be enough?"
"Magnetic Field Warriors are all masochists. You have to squeeze them hard, abuse them, humiliate them… Hahaha…" Thinking of the consequences this would bring, Zhan Liu couldn’t help laughing out loud.
Steve didn’t know what the result of doing that would be, but he understood that Zhan Liu was speaking sarcastically.
"Master, the Magnetic Field Warriors currently each have their own positions and are fighting among themselves, causing enormous losses to the country and society. If we could place them under unified management, not only could we stabilize society, we could also concentrate our strength to deal with even more powerful enemies." Steve’s words carried an unmistakable implication.
"Tch!" Zhan Liu scoffed at his hint. "You want to rely on this bunch of good-for-nothings to stand against Magneto? What are you thinking?"
"They definitely wouldn’t be enough on their own, but what if we added the Strong Magnetic Armor that Tony and Doctor Banner are researching together?" Steve had arrived at this idea only after Hydra’s team had carefully analyzed the situation.
Magneto’s existence had already become a stumbling block to Hydra’s domination of the world. As long as he existed, Hydra could never become the true master of Earth. That was why Magneto had become a thorn in the side of every Hydra branch, and all their research was aimed at countering him.
"Although Tony’s research still can’t reach Magneto’s level, technological progress is limitless. If we give Tony and the others a few more years, or provide them with enough additional assistants, I believe they’ll eventually be able to develop Strong Magnetic Armor that can rival or even surpass Magneto."
Zhan Liu yawned in boredom. "Then we’ll talk after Tony succeeds. Or you could wait a few more years. Maybe Magneto will have a heart attack and die!"
Steve wanted to continue persuading him, but Zhan Liu had already lost his patience. With a wave of his hand, he let Steve experience the feeling of being a senior apprentice-brother and directly threw him out of the Martial Arts School.
Steve flipped in midair and landed on his feet. He sighed, realizing that his persuasion had failed. The Hydra experts’ analysis had clearly made perfect sense. Why hadn’t it worked?
Zhan Liu and Magneto were mortal enemies. Wasn’t he worried that Magneto would attack him?
Wouldn’t it be better to have a few more helpers? They could even serve as cannon fodder. How could he possibly refuse?
Saoji Carter came running out of the Martial Arts School with quick, mincing steps. "Mr. President, are you all right?"
"Uh… I’m fine."
The two of them had originally gotten along quite comfortably, but after Zhan Liu exposed Saoji’s feelings, Steve suddenly felt awkward whenever he faced her. He faintly sensed that he wasn’t entirely without feelings for Saoji Carter. But he already had a fiancée.
After saying that, he immediately turned and walked toward the parking lot.
Once they got into the car, the driver started it, and Saoji sat beside him. Waves of her delicate fragrance drifted over, making him suddenly feel thirsty.
He hesitated over whether to open a bottle of mineral water, but then felt it would seem too deliberate. Just as he was wavering, Saoji spoke first.
"Mr. President."
"What is it?"
"If you’re troubled by what Mr. Zhan said earlier, there’s really no need."
Saoji Carter no longer had that brief girlish shyness from the Martial Arts School. She had completely returned to her former queenly, assertive presence and stated her position openly and generously.
"Everyone loves Captain America, and of course I’m no exception. But that kind of love is merely idol worship. Once I became an adult, I was able to tell the difference."
"I’m very happy to be working with you now, but that’s all it is. I won’t cross that line, and I certainly won’t have any negative impact on the president’s family life."
Steve let out a long breath and said apologetically, "I’m sorry. I just…"
"You don’t need to apologize, Mr. President. Your reaction proves that you’re a good person, and it also proves that the American people chose the right president."
Saoji extended her right hand to Steve. "I look forward to working with you!"
"Likewise!" Steve shook her hand, then let go. His chaotic feelings finally settled down. Though… he did feel a little disappointed.
