Fire Man’s Heart

Bang!

The muscles in Bai Cangshu’s right arm swelled as he threw a punch. The Godzilla-like giant beast let out a pained roar, its head knocked sideways as its body staggered two steps toward a nearby building.

It smashed through more than half of the building.

Bai Cangshu did not know which reincarnator his opponent truly was, nor did he know how the Multi-Faced Star People’s so-called information alteration had turned a reincarnator into such a giant beast.

But he knew that killing an opponent in this state would most likely yield a massive amount of Constitution attributes.

Bai Cangshu pointed a finger, and the Dodon Ray triggered another explosion across the giant beast’s surface. However, the damage was not obvious.

He deliberately continued guiding the monster’s movements, leading it as much as possible toward the coordinates where the reincarnators had previously been staying.

This giant beast might have tremendous destructive power against a city, but against him, it was fundamentally a terrible matchup.

Bai Cangshu was a small, highly mobile, highly destructive individual. A giant beast with a body like Godzilla’s had a hard time hitting him, and even its powerful breath attack was quite easy for him to evade.

Roooar—

Blue-white light gathered in the giant beast’s mouth once more. At this moment, the radiation level was probably off the charts. Even with Bai Cangshu’s Constitution and defense, he felt an unbearable itch across his skin, and Flame Dragon Scales surfaced instinctively.

Bai Cangshu’s figure flickered as he deliberately revealed himself from the wind.

The mindless giant beast immediately fired a breath attack at Bai Cangshu.

Bai Cangshu casually took a step, launching himself through the air. The giant beast’s breath chased after him, carving horrifying scars straight through the city.

Someone in the city below finally could not hold back any longer. Bai Cangshu saw a figure wrapped head to toe in flames leap out from a building full of windows just as the Atomic Breath was about to strike it.

Flames wrapped around his body as he flew toward the sea.

His flying speed was not slow, though it had not yet reached the speed of sound.

Bai Cangshu curled his lips into a smile. He immediately bent his knees and stomped dozens of times in succession, causing the air beneath his feet to congeal as though it were solid.

Bang!

White Ripples spread outward in rings as Bai Cangshu tore through the air like an arrow, chasing after Fire Man.

The Black Ball Team members of this world had extremely limited methods. Such a conspicuous ability was obviously that of a reincarnator.

Fire Man’s black jacket had already burned away in the flames. He had a mutant bloodline and possessed the ability of Flame Manipulation, but he could not generate flames himself.

Therefore, he had to rely on Captain Black Dragon’s dragonfire or props he carried to produce flames.

At this moment, Fire Man was enjoying the final blaze of his life. He knew very well that once he showed himself, Mercenary Tao would most likely come after him.

And he absolutely could not escape from him.

But… only this way could the captain, Omega, and the others have a chance to live.

"Woo—woo!"

Fire Man shouted loudly as he flew. The fear of impending death turned, amid the noble conviction of sacrificing himself for his teammates, into a strange blend of terror and exhilaration.

"Come after me, Mercenary Tao!"

He roared, but in the next instant, a hand was already gripping his neck. The burning flames had no effect whatsoever on Mercenary Tao.

From the corner of his eye, Fire Man saw the pitch-black Armament Haki. His heart went cold as two bottles appeared in his hands.

He clapped his hands together, and the two bottles shattered the instant they collided. Green flames burst violently from them.

Wildfire, also a special item from A Song of Ice and Fire, was considerably more powerful than ordinary flames.

It could also be stored in bottles, making it an extremely efficient item for him.

As the flames engulfed him, his skin instantly curled. Amid his agony, Fire Man thought that if he were burned to death by his own flames now, it would probably be the greatest mockery of Mercenary Tao.

Buzz—

A tremendous force suddenly struck him. With a crack, the man’s spine was shattered outright, and the terrifying force stopped him mid-flight in an instant.

Amid the burning Wildfire, Bai Cangshu was covered from head to toe in Armament Haki as he read the man’s thoughts with great interest.

At the same time, his Mantra silently adjusted, allowing him to passively monitor the locations of everyone within range who spoke a particular word.

"Fire Man, right? I have to say, your self-moving display of heroism entertained me quite well."

Bai Cangshu lifted the reincarnator, whose shattered spine had already left him partially paralyzed. Even as the flames burned his body, he could no longer feel pain.

Their eyes met, and Bai Cangshu said maliciously, "Do you know? Your teammates are constantly repeating your name, mourning your bravery…"

"Thinking of that, doesn’t it make you feel that your sacrifice had meaning?"

Bai Cangshu held him with his left hand while his right slowly traced the area over the man’s chest, inch by inch, finally stopping before his violently beating heart.

He turned to look at the giant beast, which had lost its target and was continuously roaring as it destroyed everything around it. Meanwhile, the effects of Mantra Lv. 4 allowed him to clearly hear several reincarnators inside the nearby building grieving and raging over the self-sacrifice of the man in his hand.

"Tell me, at this very moment, is this beating thing your heart?"

Fire Man looked blankly at Mercenary Tao. He was already beginning to lose the ability to hear him clearly. The searing agony of the Wildfire had vanished because of his shattered spine, but his life force was fading along with it.

His brain was beginning to lose its blood supply, and his organs were starting to shut down.

He was about to die.

Fire Man, Yan Chengxin, suddenly felt very sad. He thought of his farmer parents back home. They had always believed he had found a good job to earn so much money.

Once he died, what would happen to them…?

Bai Cangshu tilted his head, sensing the intense emotions and the man’s constantly fluctuating spirit that accompanied them.

At last, he had grasped a trace of what a heart was.

Pfft!

Before the man could be burned to death by his own Wildfire, Bai Cangshu lightly pierced his chest.

Inside the building, Lancer drew a magic circle and planted a strange sapling.

Omega was somewhat dejected. The sudden Purge Mission had left Omega, who had always liked using information to extract the greatest possible benefits from mission worlds, deeply guilty.

He felt that he had gotten Ghost Talent and Fire Man killed.

"It is time to go, Omega. Fire Man’s sacrifice had value."

Lancer completed the ritual and received a prompt. He had once again activated the reputation of the Outer God Abode.

As long as they could successfully plant the faith of the Old God in this world, they would receive some additional rewards.

Now, only this method of completely transforming the world and introducing an Outer God could, to some extent, make up for their lack of combat power and gain enough to compensate for the deaths of two members.

Boom!

A terrifying roar rang out again, the sound produced by some entity flying at supersonic speed.

Almost the instant the sound rang out, Lancer’s eyes widened. He instantly gripped his greatsword with both hands, and an invisible circle appeared around him.

Bang!

The moment the building’s outer wall shattered, a figure trailing white clouds of vapor crashed violently into the circle before Lancer.

Lancer’s body moved with unbelievable speed. The instant Mercenary Tao crashed into the circle before him, his greatsword flashed in a silver line, slashing into Mercenary Tao’s neck.

Pfft!

Blood sprayed.

It worked?!

Omega’s heart leaped with joy, only for him to see Mercenary Tao, whose neck had been more than half severed by that slash, tilt his head and extend something in his hand.

"Can you tell me how you acquired… this kind of heart?"

Boom! Bright yellow flames ignited across Lancer’s body.
