Firefighter Hero, Translucent

"Worthington, do you know? If your son weren’t Warren, you’d already be dead."

Worthington’s words made Wang Bert laugh in fury. He said, "For Warren’s sake, I’ll let you off this time. But you must pay a price for offending me."

With that, Wang Bert took out a stack of banknotes and said coldly, "Worthington, from now on, you will suffer excruciating pain once every three days until you earn my forgiveness."

Worthington froze, then recalled the rumors about Wang Bert’s Money Power. His expression changed as he shouted, "You dare?"

Wang Bert looked at the vanished banknotes and smiled. "Sorry, my Money Power has already taken effect."

Worthington wanted to say something else, but at that moment, an agonizing pain surged from the depths of his soul and rapidly spread through his entire body. He could not help letting out a shrill scream as he collapsed to the ground and rolled around nonstop.

It was not that Worthington did not care about his dignity. The pain was simply unbearable, and his willpower was not particularly strong.

"Worthington, Warren’s matter is settled."

Standing before Worthington, Wang Bert said coldly, "If you refuse to accept it, come find me. But next time, I won’t show mercy. Killing you would be no different from killing a chicken.

Don’t ask whether I dare. With a single word from me, you could die horribly in a car accident."

With that, Wang Bert turned and left, leaving Worthington sprawled on the ground, howling in pain.

Five minutes later, Worthington’s suffering stopped. He lay weakly on the rooftop, drenched in sweat.

"Wang Bert, I will never let you go!"

Worthington shouted through gritted teeth, though he knew perfectly well that he could do nothing to that strongest mutant for the time being.

For now, he could only develop the cure first, then deal with Wang Bert.

As for Warren, he could let him be a Super Hero for a few days. Once the cure was developed, he would force him back into a normal person, then have him inherit his billions in assets.

After resting for a while, Worthington climbed to his feet. He straightened his clothes a little and staggered toward the exit.

The war had begun. He, Worthington, would repay Wang Bert a thousandfold for the pain he had suffered today.

As for surrendering? What a joke. Even if he died, he would never submit to Wang Bert. It was only pain. He could endure it.

"That old man has some backbone, at least."

Sensing the situation on the rooftop, Wang Bert could not help shaking his head.

Though Wang Bert knew about the Cure Project, he did not intend to do much about it, because he needed the cure too—not every mutant wanted to be a mutant. The cure was important, even if it was only temporary.

Zuo Yi, Rogue, and the countless mutants whose evolution had failed all needed a cure.

Hurry up and develop it. Once it’s done, I’ll gladly take it off your hands.

Wang Bert sneered inwardly. Other than him, no one else would get the cure. Erasing memories and the like would be easy enough.

While Wang Bert was signing Angel Warren, a fat man arrived at Mutant Academy. He said to the professor, "Professor Charles, I’ve long admired you. I’m William, chairman of Happy Entertainment Company. You can call me William."

Sensing William’s thoughts, the professor asked in surprise, "William, you want to invite our students to become Super Heroes?"

William froze, then cursed inwardly, This old man really does have telepathy, just like the rumors said.

The professor smiled. "Actually, that is not called telepathy."

William hurriedly reined in his thoughts. Damn it… Don’t think, don’t think.

"It’s useless. To me, it’s as though countless mouths all over your body are speaking. It makes no difference whether you think or not."

The professor shook his head and said, "I already know why you came, but I cannot decide for the students. I’ll call them over and let you speak with them personally."

"You already know everything?"

William was both shocked and flustered. He took a deep breath and pretended to be calm. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Professor Charles."

The professor nodded and called Jean, asking her to bring Human Torch John and Iceman Bobby over.

After putting down the phone, the professor stared silently at William. William’s scalp tingled, and he felt as though someone had stripped him bare.

This ability is terrifying. This old man…

William suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself. Facing the professor’s puzzled gaze, he said, "A mosquito. I was swatting a mosquito."

"This is the first time I’ve seen someone swat a mosquito like that."

The professor smiled. William forced a smile in return and swore that he would never appear before this old bald man again in his life. This feeling was simply unbearable.

The professor secretly chuckled. He was doing it on purpose, to intimidate William and keep him from bullying his students.

From the moment Psylocke emerged, the professor knew that some students would surely become Super Heroes. It could not be stopped, and he did not want to stop it, because it was their freedom.

Soon, John and Bobby arrived. After hearing William’s purpose, their reactions were completely different.

John was excited. He shouted, "William, I’ve been ready for this for a long time. The people of New York will definitely like me."

Bobby, however, hesitated. His parents did not know he was a mutant. If he became a Super Hero, his identity would definitely be exposed. Would his parents accept him then?

"Of course the people of New York will like you. Many people online are asking who you are today."

William smiled. "Your abilities are very suited to being firefighters. I want you two to become Firefighter Heroes."

"Firefighter Heroes? You want me to put out fires as a firefighter?"

John was deeply dissatisfied. His dream was to become a Super Police officer, like Iron Man and Psylocke.

"It can’t be helped. To become Super Police, you need the police department’s approval. I’ve asked them, and they only accept applications from Bert Wang."

William explained, "Human Torch, become Firefighter Heroes first. Once you are famous, I’ll find a way to transition you into Super Police. I guarantee that you’ll become Super Police within three months."

John nodded reluctantly. "Three months? Fine, but let me make this clear first: if it takes longer, I’ll leave your company."

"No problem. I can add that clause to the contract."

Seeing John agree, William was delighted. He turned to Bobby and asked, "Iceman, what about you?"

"I want to talk to the professor first. Is that okay?"

Bobby wanted to seek the professor’s opinion. William nodded. "Of course. We’re a legitimate company. Whether you sign or not is entirely up to you."

William temporarily stepped outside. Bobby asked the professor, "Professor, do you think we should become Super Heroes?"

The professor asked, "Do you know why Bert Wang chose Psylocke to be a Super Hero?"

John immediately replied, "Because she’s beautiful and has long legs?"

The professor and Bobby stared at John speechlessly. John gave an embarrassed laugh, and the professor said, "That is only one reason. More importantly, Psylocke has extensive life experience. She can handle every problem and is the most suitable candidate to be a star.

"John, Bobby, I will not interfere with your choices. But I want to say that becoming celebrities is a little too early for you."

John was very unconvinced, but he did not argue. Bobby let out a breath and said, "Professor, I know what to do. I’ll stay at the academy and continue studying until I graduate."

John shouted, "Bobby, this is a chance to soar to the top in one step."

"If you climb too high, it hurts badly when you fall. I’m scared of pain."

Bobby shook his head. He was an honest kid and preferred climbing upward one step at a time. John said unhappily, "Whatever. I’m becoming a Super Hero anyway."

Bobby smiled. "Then sign a few autographs for me first. Once you become famous, I’ll sell them."

"Don’t worry, I’ll sign you a dozen."

John grinned smugly. The professor quietly watched everything without stopping them. The students’ fates should be decided by the students themselves. Teachers should not interfere too much.

Just like White Queen back then. When she wanted to leave, the professor had not stopped her at all.

Though Bobby did not sign, William was already satisfied with getting Human Torch John. He solemnly promised the professor, "Professor Charles, don’t worry. I will never mistreat Human Torch."

"I know."

The professor smiled. William’s heart went cold, and he silently removed several clauses from the contract that had been meant to trap celebrities. This old man was far too frightening. He had better not court death.

Afterward, John packed his things and left with William. When the students learned that he was going to become a Super Hero, they all ran over to watch.

Facing his classmates’ envious gazes, John said arrogantly, "I’ll come back as a Super Hero. When that happens, I’ll personally sign autographs for all of you."

The students applauded loudly, offering their blessings to their classmate.

Rogue asked Iceman in confusion, "Why don’t you want to become a Super Hero?"

"Maybe because I’m timid and don’t dare to try."

Bobby shrugged. Rogue smiled. "Don’t hide under your blankets and cry in a few days."

Bobby smiled. "Don’t worry, I definitely won’t let you see it."

Rogue smiled too. She found Bobby quite interesting. He also seemed reliable, completely different from that flamboyant John.

"The stench of young love."

Wolverine could not help laughing as he looked at Bobby and Rogue. Storm glanced at him and said, "I hope a third party does not appear between them."

Wolverine’s expression darkened slightly. How could he count as a third party? Jean was clearly interested in him, all right? Just a few days ago, she had danced with him by the lake.

Storm ignored Wolverine and walked into the office. She asked the professor, "Professor, is it really okay to let John become a Super Hero?"

"It is his choice. I cannot stop him, and I will not stop him."

The professor said, "As for whether it is good or bad, we will wait and see. I will keep watching him."

Storm sighed. "I hope nothing happens to him."

"I won’t let anything happen to him."

The professor shook his head, then thought of something and asked, "By the way, has Azazel been settled?"

"He has been placed in the Church Basement. Hank specially set up an Electric Prison there. Unless an outsider helps him, Azazel will never escape."

Storm replied, "Kurt wants to use the Bible to reform Azazel. Honestly, he is being a little naive."

The professor said, "Let him try. Azazel is hiding a great secret."

With Wolverine as an insider, Wang Bert soon learned of this. He shook his head and said, "Human Torch will definitely get into trouble. Psylocke, be ready to weather the impact."

Psylocke asked, "How do you know Human Torch will definitely get into trouble?"

"Human Torch’s emergence will put many firefighters out of work. Certain people will surely make a big issue out of it, stirring up ordinary people’s Jealousy and hostility toward mutants."

Wang Bert said, "Also, Human Torch is immature. Once he achieves success, he’ll get carried away. Then those people will lure him into making mistakes and use him to attack us mutants."

"Those damned anti-mutant scum are absolutely capable of that."

Psylocke cursed, then a fierce gleam flashed through her eyes. She asked, "Boss, should we do something?"

"There’s no need. Without Human Torch, there would be other mutants."

Wang Bert shook his head. "What we need to do is minimize the impact. There can be consequences, but they cannot damage our foundation. In fact, a suitable amount of impact is not a bad thing. Both humans and mutants need to calm down a little."

"What exactly should we do?"

Psylocke asked. She did not want Human Torch to ruin the budding celebrity career she had worked so hard to start.

"First, let me introduce someone to you."

Wang Bert pointed to the empty space beside him and said, "He’s quite a handsome guy."

Psylocke turned to look, then asked in confusion, "There’s no one there."

A man’s voice suddenly sounded. "Miss Psylocke, I admire you very much. Could you give me an autograph?"

Psylocke was startled. Realizing something, she lightly swept her scabbard forward and soon struck an invisible object. She asked, "Translucent?"

"That’s right, Translucent."

Wang Bert smiled. With his current reputation, mutants often came to join him. Translucent was one of them.

"That ability is every man’s dream."

Psylocke smiled. "Is there any need for you to stay invisible in front of the Boss?"

"Unfortunately, my invisibility is a passive ability. Since I awakened, I’ve remained invisible the entire time. Cars and people have hit me many times, and I nearly died several times because nobody knew I was injured. Worse still, going to a hospital was useless."

Translucent said bitterly. Wang Bert smiled. "You’re too handsome, so God turned your invisibility into a passive ability."

Translucent said, "Though I haven’t looked in a mirror since I was eleven, I guarantee that I’m incredibly handsome."

Brad Pitt—how could he not be handsome?

Wang Bert grumbled inwardly. Translucent was the one who fell from the sky and got electrocuted in "Deadpool 2."

Psylocke spread her hands. "The problem is, no one can see you. What use is being handsome?"

Translucent was devastated and went off to the side to sulk. Wang Bert shook his head and said, "Translucent, I have a task for you."

"I guarantee I’ll complete it."

Translucent immediately replied. He liked missions, because they proved that he existed.

"Take a camera and record Human Torch’s every move."

Wang Bert said, "If anything happens to him, notify me immediately. I’ll come find you right away."

Psylocke’s eyes lit up. "That’s a good method. Everything will be under our control."

Translucent immediately said, "This task is perfect for me. I guarantee I’ll even film him when he goes to the bathroom."

Wang Bert and Psylocke both looked disgusted. Wang Bert said, "That won’t be necessary. Go. Once you complete the mission, I’ll give you a bonus. You can use it to live it up, or you can use it to have me use Money Power.

"My Money Power can do almost anything—for example, make you visible."
