First Modification

"I choose lightning!"

"No problem."

Chen Mu looked at Xu Jia’s battle-hungry eyes and could not help feeling a little speechless.

Xu Jia was truly a battle-crazed maniac. She especially loved fighting. Whether it had been her wanting to fight the Hulk before or later charging onto the front lines in Jotunheim, she had always been at the forefront.

She was more warlike than many people. At the very least, she was more warlike than Chen Mu.

"What do I need to do?"

Xu Jia asked curiously.

"You don’t need to do anything. Just drip your blood onto this first, and I’ll customize an ability specifically for you."

Right now, Chen Mu only had his own genetic code, so he could not use himself as a blueprint to modify all Chinese people.

After all, China had fifty-six ethnic groups. Not everyone’s genetic code was the same as his. Modifying people from every different ethnic group across China required a large number of genetic templates, and that would take time.

So for individual modifications now, he could simply customize them directly.

Of course, Chen Mu also wanted to see how effective it would be. If it worked, he could first strengthen his own body as well. It could serve as one of his trump cards and offer him some protection.

Well then, Xu Jia was really being sent in to test the waters.

"But I still want to ask you one more thing. Are you really willing to take this risk? I’m highly confident, but there’s still a ten percent chance of failure."

"And if it fails, your genes will collapse, and you’ll die immediately."

After saying that, Chen Mu looked at Xu Jia with a serious expression.

"What’s so scary about that?"

Xu Jia rolled her eyes and said irritably, "Did you forget what Wang Wei and the others said back then? What do I have to be afraid of?"

"Besides, I’m an orphan. I don’t even need to bother writing a will."

Only then did Chen Mu understand why Xu Jia had always stayed by his side to help him and had never taken leave to go home. It turned out that she simply had no home of her own.

No, that was not right. She merely did not have a small home of her own. Her home was the entire country. That was her home, her everything.

"Then let’s begin."

Chen Mu said nothing more and looked seriously at Xu Jia. She did not say anything either. She took out a dagger, cut her finger, and dripped a drop of blood onto the Tablet of Life.

Very quickly, Xu Jia’s Life Code appeared before Chen Mu.

There were already annotations, so Chen Mu quickly came to understand Xu Jia’s genes and compared them with his own. As fellow Asians and Descendants of the Yellow Emperor, they still had many similarities.

The upgraded Tablet of Life was indeed far more powerful than the original version. Analyzing genes should have been an extremely difficult problem, yet Chen Mu resolved it quickly. In just an hour, he had basically understood Xu Jia’s genes completely and could begin the modification directly.

First, the Thunder Force Xu Jia had chosen was directly added to her innate abilities. From then on, she would definitely become a female Thor.

Second came powerful physical attributes. She would have the same strength and speed as Thor. As long as she had magic power, she could unleash dozens of tons of force. Though she would still be weaker than the Hulk, at least her body would not change. For a beauty-conscious girl, that was acceptable.

Lastly was her lifespan. Since she was someone he knew well, Chen Mu thought it over and directly added Asgard’s ten-thousand-year lifespan to her.

Honestly, China’s recorded history was only a little over five thousand years. A ten-thousand-year lifespan could be called immortality without exaggeration. Besides, who knew what the world would be like ten thousand years from now?

In any case, a ten-thousand-year lifespan was practically equivalent to immortality.

Oh, there was one more thing. Xu Jia had originally been quite a good fighter, but she did not have any talent for magic. This time, after being granted an Asgardian physique, she also gained magic power and could practice magic.

Of course, she was no longer young and had missed the best age to begin. Therefore, it was still most suitable for her to learn Ancient One’s magic: directly borrowing power from other dimensions and joining the ranks of loan-powered mages.

After making a series of adjustments, Chen Mu nodded in satisfaction as he looked at the Life Equation he had modified and designed specifically for Xu Jia. Perfect!

"Alright, now all you need to do is undergo the modification."

After editing the Life Equation on the Tablet of Life, Chen Mu had Xu Jia stand still and controlled the Tablet of Life to modify her.

The modification was actually extremely simple. The Tablet of Life emitted a wave that could be used for either large-scale or individual modifications. For Xu Jia, it was merely a wave sweeping across her body, as simple as an X-ray scan, and the modification was complete.

"Do I just stand here like this?"

Xu Jia asked with a curious look on her face.

"It’s already over."

Seeing this, the corners of Chen Mu’s mouth rose. It seemed the Tablet of Life’s modifications were not all that difficult.

It looked like he could modify himself as well.

"Huh?"

Xu Jia was completely bewildered. Had anything just happened?

When the Hulk had been modified before, he had at least needed injections and gamma-ray exposure. Why had her own modification ended so casually?

You’re not lying to me, are you?

"It’s already over." Seeing that Xu Jia did not quite believe him, Chen Mu smiled and said, "The Tablet of Life has indeed finished modifying your genes. Just now, it released a kind of X-ray-like wave that modified your body."

"Your body now actually possesses lightning abilities. It’s just that you don’t have any magic power inside you yet, so you can’t use your innate abilities for the time being. But your physical attributes alone should have improved greatly."

Although her strength could only reach dozens of tons with magic power, even without it, her base strength was still extremely formidable. She should still have several tons of strength, which already far surpassed ordinary humans.

As he spoke, Xu Jia suddenly felt a wave of weakness, followed by an involuntary surge of hunger.

"Also, there’s a side effect of suddenly strengthening your body. You need to replenish a huge amount of energy. Put simply, you’ll be very hungry."

After saying that, Chen Mu looked at Xu Jia’s pale face and was startled. "What’s wrong? Did something go wrong?"

"Nothing. I’m just a little hungry. Like I haven’t eaten anything for days…"

Xu Jia looked speechless. Could you not mention the side effects beforehand?

The intense hunger left Xu Jia too lazy even to complain. She opened a portal and went straight to the cafeteria.

Right now, she felt like she could eat a whole cow!
