Five Fireballs
Ada soon understood why everyone had reacted that way. Yinsen, who had been standing there quietly, charged at the monster so fast that she could barely react, then kicked it flying backward.
"Slow reactions."
Compared to the Tyrant’s agility, which was utterly disproportionate to its size, William in his First Form was far more sluggish.
After Yinsen kicked him several meters away and he crashed to the ground, William slowly climbed back up and stubbornly walked toward Yinsen. At the same time, he raised the steel pipe in his hand, seemingly intending to beat Yinsen to death with it.
"Sluggish reactions. Looks like he’s lost his intelligence too."
William in his current state was driven purely by instinct. The brilliant scientist who had invented the G-Virus had completely turned into a brainless monster.
"He can sure take a beating."
Yinsen flashed aside to evade William’s attack. From the speed of that strike and the whistle of the wind, he could tell that although William was very strong, he was still weaker than Yinsen in his current form.
"Was the G-Virus really that useless?"
Like many ordinary players, he had once believed that the G-Virus’s defining trait was evolution. It was only after looking into some information later that he learned its official defining trait was uncontrollable mutation.
Even after prolonged research, G-Virus mutations still could not truly be controlled. Infection also came with enormous restrictions: an embryo had to be implanted into someone with a close Blood Relation, then naturally develop within that person before eventually causing mutation. It could not successfully produce a true G-Virus life-form in people with no blood relation.
On top of that, the T-Virus had become increasingly refined. Later, parasites and the even more advanced Uroboros Virus appeared. Through constant improvement and modification, the G-Virus, with its countless flaws, was naturally phased out.
Perhaps the G-Virus’s only successful host was Sherry, who was still a little girl. She had been treated after being infected with the G-Virus, but the virus that had already partially fused with her could not be completely removed. This gave her extremely powerful regenerative abilities, as well as a slower growth rate. More than ten years later, Sherry was nearly thirty, yet she still looked like a young woman in her early twenties.
Yinsen’s mind was wandering through all sorts of random thoughts, but his hands did not slow down at all. After dodging another one of William’s attacks, he punched William back several steps, then retreated slightly to widen the distance between them. He raised and opened his right hand, aiming it at William from afar.
Compared to last time, Yinsen mobilized far more magic. The immense Magic Burst gave off even stronger waves, forcing the sewage that had submerged his thighs aside. The flow of magic even formed a small whirlpool.
Under Yinsen’s control, the magic finally gathered around his right arm and formed five scorching fireballs glowing orange-red. Like satellites, the five fireballs slowly revolved around his arm.
"What the fuck is that thing?"
Ben and Ada had been stunned by Yinsen beating down the monster, but when they suddenly witnessed such an unscientific sight, they could no longer contain their emotions.
Ada was still relatively composed. As an elite agent who had undergone training, she could barely control herself despite her shock. Ben, the reporter, had completely lost it. The monster’s earlier appearance had been understandable because he knew it was a Bio-Weapon. But what the hell was this? How could so many bizarre phenomena appear on a person’s body? Not to mention those five things slowly orbiting his arm.
If Yinsen had not been facing such a terrifying monster, Ben would have rushed over to inspect him thoroughly, expose whatever trick he was pulling, and prove that the world was still normal—that something this strange could never possibly happen.
Ada also wanted to rush over and find out what was going on, but she hid her emotions well. She only showed the appropriate amount of surprise and made no excessive movements.
She did not get the chance to do anything anyway. After condensing the five fireballs, Yinsen did not keep them around for long. The moment William stood back up, he launched all five fireballs at once.
The G-Virus might have many flaws, but in terms of durability, it definitely surpassed the Tyrant. Taking William seriously, Yinsen directly threw five fireballs at him. He believed that even if the G-Virus was tough, it could only fall after being hit by all five.
However, condensing five fireballs at once and firing them at the same target made it difficult to ensure both accuracy and power, so their flight speed was less than ideal.
Fortunately, William in his current state did not understand how to dodge. He watched helplessly as the five fireballs struck him, and the successive explosions and blinding flames robbed everyone of both sight and hearing.
Fortunately, it was only temporary. They soon recovered, and when they opened their eyes again, Yinsen was the only one still standing in their field of vision.
"Did that monster get taken out?"
That attack had been like being blasted by a tank’s Main Gun. Even a rocket launcher could not have caused such an effect. In their eyes, the monster had surely been obliterated.
Yet Yinsen then dragged a mangled corpse out of the sewage. Though severely damaged, it was still recognizable as the monster from before.
"It wasn’t even blown into pieces?"
They were not the only ones surprised. Even Yinsen was shocked. The Mutated Organisms infected by the G-Virus seemed a little too durable. What surprised him even more was that William had not been killed. His body was still full of vitality, and given some time, he would be able to move again.
Dragging William’s corpse along, Yinsen returned to the platform where everyone had gathered. There was no sewage here, and the broad field of view made it suitable for a temporary rest and discussion.
"Why bring that thing over here?"
Ben Bertolucci was somewhat wary of the monster, especially since Yinsen had blasted the corpse so badly with that strange ability that its original appearance could no longer be seen.
However, Yinsen ignored him and instead beckoned to Claire, who was holding Sherry.
Ever since Yinsen had dragged the corpse over, Claire had picked Sherry up to keep her from looking at it. She was very surprised when Yinsen suddenly called to her and had no idea what he wanted.
"I want Sherry to take a look and see if she can recognize who this is."
"Are you insane? You want a child to look at something so horrible?"
Claire immediately unleashed a barrage of criticism at Yinsen, but he was helpless too. This was Sherry’s father, so naturally Sherry had to identify him.
"This person should be William Birkin."
Everyone caught on quickly. Sherry’s surname was Birkin, and she had mentioned that her parents worked at an Umbrella Corporation Bio-Plant…
No one thought it could be such a coincidence. Claire understood why Yinsen wanted Sherry to identify him, but she still did not want twelve-year-old Sherry to face something like this.
"How do you know this is William Birkin?"
The one who asked was not Claire, but Ada, who had been pretending to be an ordinary passerby protected by numerous "powerful good people" and a "kind young police officer."
She could not stay silent, because William Birkin was tied to her important objective: the G-Virus.
Yinsen wanted to say that he simply knew because he had played this game many times and looked up plenty of information. But now, he had a simpler way to prove his words.
He had encountered William in his First Form. Although his face was twisted beyond recognition and even his own daughter could not identify the monster’s true identity, First Form William still wore clothes. There was even a name tag hanging from his white lab coat.
Yinsen merely had to point at the name tag, which had been covered in so much filth that no one could tell what it was without looking closely. Everyone then knew the monster’s identity.
"William… Birkin…"
Sherry could not see, but she had been listening to everyone’s conversation. When she heard Claire say her father’s name beside her, she realized that the monster she had been avoiding was her father.
She wanted to turn around and look, but Claire held her shoulders tightly and would not let her turn her head. Sherry could only lie on Claire’s shoulder and cry endlessly.
"Poor child."
Everyone fell somewhat silent. They seemed not to know how to comfort Sherry, nor how to comment on her father, who had turned into a monster, in front of a child.
Only Yinsen did not care about that. After using Mental Power to observe the deeper changes within the G-Virus host for a while, he crouched down and pressed his hand against William’s head.
Then, with his left hand loosely gripping the Holy Light Cross hidden beneath his clothes, he silently drew upon the little Holy Light Energy remaining within it.
He wanted to see what effect his Holy Light Energy could have on this kind of Bio-Virus.
No one knew what Yinsen was doing, but when they saw golden-yellow light with a holy aura emanating from his body, they all wisely shut their mouths, afraid of disturbing him.
This state did not last long. The light around Yinsen soon dissipated, yet for some reason, everyone felt that William’s corpse had undergone some sort of change.
No matter how they looked, it seemed exactly the same as before. In the end, Leon, unable to suppress his curiosity, asked, "What did you just do?"
"I wanted to see if I could purify his soul."
Purify a soul? It sounded unbelievable, but Leon had already grown used to all kinds of unbelievable things happening today. "And the result?"
"The result was that his soul had long since become utterly shattered. What drove this monster’s movements were the various instincts originating from its body."
There was another matter Yinsen did not mention. After eliminating the twisted, shattered evil soul within the monster’s body, he discovered that the Holy Light within the cross had changed once again.
