Amaterasu Ōmikami. She was the goddess of the sun and the highest deity of Shinto. Legend had it that she was born from the left eye of Izanagi, the progenitor who created heaven and earth in Japanese mythology. Izanagi missed his beloved wife Izanami, who had died in childbirth, and personally traveled to Yomi. But when he saw her rotten, hideous body, he fled Yomi in disgust and terror. An enraged Izanami sent several generals after him, but he shook them off with clever tactics.
