Got on the Wrong Vehicle, Didn’t I?
Kaecilius’s unexpected palm strike not only stopped Mordo from approaching Li Feng, but also interrupted Strange’s spellcasting, bringing time to a standstill.
Seeing this, Kaecilius could not help but laugh. "You cannot defeat what is destined to happen." As he spoke, Kaecilius looked up at the Dark Dimension and sighed. "It’s so beautiful—a world beyond time, beyond death."
Strange felt somewhat discouraged. Master Ancient One, this plot makes no sense. I haven’t even left the newbie village, yet you’ve arranged for the final boss to sharpen his blade on me. Couldn’t you give me some rookie as an opponent instead?
Wait, beyond time?
As he grumbled inwardly, Strange suddenly thought of something. He got to his feet and controlled the Cloak of Levitation to fly toward the Dark World. He intended to use the power of the Eye of Agamotto to create an endless time loop and discuss with Dormammu the consequences of transcending time.
Kaecilius did not stop him. In his eyes, Strange was not negotiating with Dormammu—he had merely recognized the situation and was preparing to defect to Dormammu. This made him unable to resist showing off. "Do you see? This is the Sorcerer Supreme Ancient One chose? Back then, Ancient One should have chosen me as Sorcerer Supreme."
"Keep dreaming," Li Feng said as he teleported beside Mordo. Squinting up at the Dark Dimension, the Mana in his palm shifting constantly, he said, "Kid, want to bet a few packs of spicy strips with your uncle? I bet you’re dead for sure."
Kaecilius’s face darkened. He slowly backed away, raised his head, and shouted, "My lord, there is a Mage here insulting you and trying to stop you from bringing us into that wonderful world."
Li Feng turned and gave Kaecilius a disdainful look. You’re a grown man, and you’re tattling? How embarrassing.
"What did Dormammu feed you that you still trust him? Are you brain-dead? Open your damn eyes and see if there are any signs of living creatures in the Dark Dimension. Or do you think you evolved some organ that lets you survive by kissing Dormammu’s ass? Besides, that two-faced bastard Dormammu doesn’t have time to answer your call right now."
Before Li Feng could finish, his expression suddenly changed. He sensed a mass of Dark Energy rapidly surrounding him.
What the hell? Dormammu has his eye on me? Why? I didn’t lay a hand on you. At most, I mouthed off a little. Aren’t you being ridiculously petty?
And you, Strange. How unreliable can you be? Didn’t you say you were going to negotiate with Dormammu? How does he still have the power to deal with me?
Li Feng did not stop to think about it. The Dark Dimension had already become visible to the naked eye, so naturally a portion of Dormammu’s power had descended upon Earth. And considering Dormammu’s level, what was so strange about negotiating with Strange while splitting off a bit of power to notice Li Feng?
To Dormammu, that was simply standard procedure.
Besides, Li Feng was courting death by insulting Dormammu while studying his energy. Naturally, Dormammu would not look kindly on him. If he did not drag Li Feng into the Dark Dimension and kill him, would everyone dare study him in the future?
Dormammu was still a ruler of one realm. His pride mattered more than anything.
Feeling the Dark Energy completely surround him and about to begin corroding him, Li Feng cursed his bad luck. After failing to open a Portal, he instantly opened a Transdimensional Portal and jumped through without hesitation.
A packet of tea and a wrist-mounted communicator suddenly appeared on the ground, while Li Feng vanished without a trace. Aside from Mordo, who had anticipated this, everyone present stared blankly at the Transdimensional Portal as it disappeared in an instant. Even Dormammu was stunned for a moment.
He had lived for countless years, yet he had never seen anyone escape after being surrounded by Dark Energy.
"This is truly interesting."
After passing through the Transdimensional Portal, Li Feng found himself near a gas station. He closed his eyes and sensed the energy within his body. Good thing I ran quickly. Dormammu’s energy didn’t corrode me.
Then Li Feng raised his hand and looked at his wrist. My brand-new communicator… My precious money… How could it leave me before I even got to enjoy it?
Fighting back tears, Li Feng confirmed that he was unharmed, then scratched his head as he looked over the dilapidated gas station in the distance. Where am I? The road under my feet is gravel, and there’s nothing around for miles. There’s even a gas station in a godforsaken place like this? Where does the owner get the courage to keep living? Even robbers probably wouldn’t bother coming here.
While he was wondering, Li Feng saw a motorhome slowly pull into the gas station from afar. Then Thor jumped out from the driver’s seat?
Li Feng was somewhat delighted. Of course, he did not think this guy was actually Thor. He could tell at a glance that this "Thor" did not possess the slightest trace of Mana. He was simply happy to see an "old acquaintance."
Soon afterward, two men and two women stepped out of the motorhome.
However, Li Feng found the group somewhat strange. He sensed that their Astral Bodies seemed abnormal, as if they had been controlled by some kind of spell.
Puppets? Li Feng wondered.
After activating his Mystic Eyes and observing them for a while, Li Feng confirmed that there was indeed something wrong with them. He concluded that there was a high chance these people were the protagonists.
After thinking it over, Li Feng stored his armor and Scythe in his Personal Space, then quickly walked toward "Thor." He planned to blend into their group and see what kind of world this was.
In the distance, "Thor," who had gotten out of the motorhome, stood beside the gas pump and muttered to himself, "I’m guessing this antique can’t take cards."
Halfway through speaking, "Thor" noticed Li Feng approaching and politely asked, "Are you the owner here? I’d like to get some gas."
Li Feng shrugged and waved a hand. "I’m not the owner. I’m just a hiker." After pausing, Li Feng put on an embarrassed expression and glanced around. "I’m lost right now, though. Could you tell me where this is?"
Beside him, a man who looked like a drug addict swayed as he pointed at another companion with a buzz cut walking toward the ramshackle wooden house. "We don’t know where we are either, but my buddy will find out soon enough."
Before long, the buzz-cut man seemed to be frightened by something and ran out of the wooden house. Then an old man with a delinquent air about him and only a few white hairs left on his head walked out. He pointed his chin at the sign on the house and demanded, "Can’t you see it says we’re closed?"
"Thor" looked somewhat apologetic. "We just want to buy some gas. Is there still gas in your pumps?"
The old man looked them over, his gaze lingering unnaturally on Li Feng for a few extra seconds. "If you know how to use the pump, then there’s gas."
Clearly, the old man’s gas station had not gone out of business yet. There was still fuel in the tanks.
After resolving the motorhome’s fuel problem, the buzz-cut man hurriedly asked, "We also wanted to ask how to get to Tiller Man Road." He pointed down the road and asked, "Do we just follow this road straight ahead?"
The old man spat out a gob of old phlegm with a nasty attitude. As he walked toward the gas pump to fill the motorhome, he said, "Keep going straight down this road. Tiller Man Road goes directly to the mountaintop, and at the end of it is Old Buckner’s house."
"Thor" asked, "My cousin bought a house there. There’s a lake after you pass through the tunnel in the mountain. Could that be—"
Before "Thor" could finish, the old man interrupted, "That’s Buckner’s place. People are always trying to sell it."
At this moment, a somewhat flirtatious blonde girl was puzzled. Living on a mountaintop where you can watch the sunrise and sunset, with a lake right outside the door for swimming—what a beautiful place. Why sell it? Even if the road isn’t great, it’d still be nice to come here and relax sometimes.
The blonde girl asked, "Do you know the previous owner?"
Before she could ask why the former owner had sold the house, the old man had already finished filling the tank. As he returned the nozzle, he cut her off with a roguish air. "I met them, but they weren’t the original owners. Lots of people have come and gone. I’ve been here since the war ended, and I’ve seen several owners."
The blonde girl curiously asked, "Which war?"
At the side, Li Feng was somewhat confused. Normally, shouldn’t they be asking why the owners kept buying the house and leaving? Why was the blonde girl concerned with which war the old man had participated in? Is she an idiot?
And this old man looked strange no matter how he looked at him.
Rubbing his chin, Li Feng silently stood aside and watched the show.
Clearly, the old man did not want to discuss the war. He snapped at the blonde girl a few times.
That stirred up a hornet’s nest. "Thor" and his group were all young and strong, and with their pretty girlfriends beside them, if they did not step up now and show off their muscles, how would they pick up girls later?
What if the girls looked down on them as all bark and no bite? How would they ever show their faces again?
Just like that, the drug addict was the first to stand up for his friend. The old man was no pushover either, immediately making it clear: I’m not afraid of you. Believe it or not, I’ll lie down right here, and unless you give me thirty to fifty thousand dollars, I’m not getting up.
Just as a fight was about to break out, the peacemaking buzz-cut man stepped in just in time and stopped both sides.
"Thor" and the others did not actually want a physical fight either. If they won, they would go to jail. If they lost a fight to an old man, they would lose both face and dignity, then have to go to the hospital for stitches. What a terrible deal.
Most importantly, win or lose, their vacation would be over.
Thinking of this, "Thor" waved a hand and indignantly led his friends back to the motorhome.
After thinking it over, Li Feng stopped "Thor" and asked, "Buddy, could you give me a ride? I want to go up to the mountaintop and watch the sunrise."
The buzz-cut man seemed somewhat hesitant. After all, they all knew one another. A stranger suddenly asking for a ride to an isolated mountaintop seemed rather inappropriate.
"Thor" sized Li Feng up, then secretly compared their builds. Once he found that Li Feng was merely a "combat power of five," he smiled. "Of course."
"Thanks." Li Feng tightened his shoulder bag and quickly climbed into the motorhome.
After the motorhome drove away from the gas station, the old man’s expression changed. He turned around and picked up the phone.
Once the call connected, the old man spoke rapidly. "There’s been a small complication. There’s an extra little lamb among the original flock of five. Should we drive away this extra lamb?"
A middle-aged man’s unconcerned voice came from the phone. "Then he’s unlucky. He can give the evil god a little more entertainment."
Inside the motorhome, Li Feng quickly learned that the three men and two women were college students.
"Thor’s" real name was Kurt, and he was in a relationship with the blonde girl, Julie.
The buzz-cut man was Holden, a highly knowledgeable talent. The drug addict, Marty, was indeed a drug addict and smoked marijuana the entire way.
The last woman, who looked relatively innocent, was named Dana. Because of a painful past heartbreak, she and her friends had planned to spend a wild, happy, unforgettable weekend at the house Kurt’s cousin had just bought.
After learning the basic situation, Li Feng began to panic inwardly. I have absolutely no idea what world this is. I didn’t get on the wrong vehicle, did I?
