Master Roshi and the Crane Hermit had gone their separate ways, each founding their own school. The philosophies of the Turtle School and the Crane School were completely different as well. Master Roshi placed greater emphasis on inner cultivation. It was clear from when Krillin and Goku became his disciples that Master Roshi had not actually taught them any particularly formidable martial arts. He had not passed down any of his ultimate techniques, such as the Mafuba, Hypnosis Technique, or Ten Thousand Nations Shocking Palm.
