Heart Light: Lost Requiem

Bai Cangshu arrived at stall A-04 in the Slum Area. An Avatar of a Reincarnator dressed in a Daoist robe was lying in a chair, rocking leisurely. However, his Daoist robe was an eerie emerald green, making it seem even stranger than the Daoist robes of East Xia that Bai Cangshu remembered.

Kidō Master was likewise a Reincarnator whose title had gradually replaced his codename. He had probably held this title exclusively for three cycles. Black Butler guessed that the abilities granted by this title were indispensable to the construction of his power system, which was why he had always remained in this position.

Likewise, if a title could be held by a single Reincarnator for multiple cycles, it meant that person was far stronger than the Reincarnators who merely met the title’s requirements.

Seemingly noticing Bai Cangshu’s arrival, Kidō Master raised his head. Upon seeing Mercenary Tao’s distinctive pink robe and ugly red face, the corners of his mouth twitched as he lazily rose to his feet.

"Young people these days… I really can’t understand their taste."

Bai Cangshu noticed that this High-tier Reincarnator from the Throne of Illusion and Reality, rumored to be the strongest gathering place, had very long eyebrows that drooped down beside his temples. Judging by his expression, he was not a particularly serious person, completely unlike the stall owner who had appeared here last time.

"Glaze Crack gave you that Void Core?"

When Mercenary Tao did not answer, Kidō Master shook his head in boredom and returned to the subject. During that operation, Glaze Crack had received the Void Core with the most unusual quality. He had always been interested in that particular Void Core, but that girl Glaze Crack had acted quickly. Before he could negotiate with her, she had already traded the Void Core to Mercenary Tao for something.

Bai Cangshu nodded and extended his right hand. The core that gave off a faint purple sheen appeared above his palm.

An intense soul aura radiated outward, yet its fluctuations were completely different from those of undead spirits or yin spirits. It carried the flavor of Silence, emptiness, and annihilation.

Kidō Master reached out to take it, but immediately withdrew his hand and coughed.

"You know how to use this thing, don’t you? As a special material for soul-based powers, its best use is naturally to unlock soul-based abilities. Whether it’s Fullbring or Kamui, this is the most essential material. But you seem to be a Martial Artist?"

"What do you need this for…?"

Kidō Master was clearly not a qualified merchant. His earlier action immediately made Bai Cangshu realize that the other man was very interested in this Void Core. And that interest was not born from a desire to trade, but rather from curiosity—a desire to study it.

That was why he had not only contacted him through Black Butler, but had also tried to take the Void Core directly before they had even settled on a price.

A smile curled Bai Cangshu’s lips. He had already decided that he would come out ahead in this transaction.

He looked down at Kidō Master, who sat behind the stall, the smile on his lips utterly undisguised.

"Of course, I’m a Martial Artist, but I’m also very interested in those soul-based abilities. I assume you’ll offer me a price that isn’t quite so… exorbitant."

Kidō Master’s expression stiffened. He knew he had been too eager and had revealed his hand. Remembering his companion’s previous warning not to take the initiative to seek out Mercenary Tao, he felt somewhat annoyed.

But who knew that Mercenary Tao seemed to have forgotten all about it? After returning to his stall, he had not only failed to name a price, but had not even sent a single spatial message.

He was worried that Mercenary Tao, that idiot, would fail to recognize its value and trade the Void Core to someone else, wasting it for nothing. That was why he had proactively contacted Mercenary Tao through Black Butler.

There was a special kind of Spirit Essence within that Void Core, Spirit Essence far beyond anything an ordinary Hollow could possess.

Kidō Master felt that this special Spirit Essence was likely connected to the Supreme King of the Throne of Illusion and Reality. He was also curious just how great the difference in power was between the so-called Supreme King and top-tier Reincarnators like themselves.

What kind of power lay beyond the Fourth Tier?

"Ah, forget it. This old Daoist doesn’t care to fight you over such meager profits. Bring it here. I’ll remove its outer shell. If you want to unlock Fullbring, I’ll only charge you one A-rank Anomaly Point. If you want to fuse it into your own soul and obtain the power of a Hollow from the Goddess, that’s up to you."

Kidō Master waved his hand, once again choosing to concede profit in the transaction. At his level, unless it was a truly valuable item, he really could not be bothered to spend energy haggling with people.

Especially since he was alone. The people he had been close to were all short-lived ghosts, and now there was no need for him to secure resources for anyone else.

The two quickly reached an agreement and signed a contract. Bai Cangshu handed the Void Core over to him. Because an item like a Void Core was extraordinarily valuable, the space would specially mark it. Even though they were all Void Cores, every single one was actually different.

Once it had been marked, there was no need to worry about the other party swapping it out.

After the contract was finalized, Kidō Master took the Void Core and immediately lowered his head to examine it, treating Bai Cangshu, who had not yet left, as thin air.

Although Bai Cangshu’s soul was powerful, the space’s barrier prevented him from sensing any more information. He could only leave resentfully.

Before long, Bai Cangshu entered the Rank Management Office. Of the various special institutions in the space, this was the place he visited most often.

Knight Sister was already quite familiar with Bai Cangshu.

She had initially only glanced up casually, but her movements soon froze. She looked up again, and her figure instantly appeared before Bai Cangshu.

Her petite body suddenly became taller. In an instant, the energetic Knight Sister became mature, her figure turning slender and voluptuous. The silver armor on her body was also stretched somewhat apart.

A powerful sense of presence filled the entire Rank Management Office, and Bai Cangshu even had the illusion that he could not breathe properly.

Her overwhelming presence was beginning to squeeze at the proof of his own existence.

She was strong—far stronger than he had imagined!

"You came into contact with Heartlight!"

It was the first time Knight Sister had shown such an expression. It made Bai Cangshu increasingly feel that the "NPCs" in these institutions within the space were probably not virtual beings at all, but truly existing lives with thoughts and emotions of their own.

"I need you to anchor me. Also, can you tell me what Heartlight is?"

Bai Cangshu had come into contact with this power, yet he could not find any explanation of it on his panel. It was unlike all kinds of abilities and attributes, which could be explained directly.

Knight Sister extended a hand and stopped it before Bai Cangshu. Heat surged through his body once more. He had grown somewhat accustomed to that intense swelling sensation of powerful energy entering his body. He did not particularly cherish his own body, either. Someone with powerful regeneration and immortality would gradually grow accustomed to their body being damaged.

Reincarnators would even make use of this information gap in battle to gain an advantage.

Anchoring...

Other than the swelling sensation in his flesh, Bai Cangshu did not feel anything special. Knight Sister also frowned. A power like Heartlight should not have been usable so calmly. The Reincarnator before her had clearly not reached the point where he could wield Heartlight at will.

Strange. Extremely strange.

But soon, that golden phantom was reflected from Bai Cangshu’s body after all.

Knight Sister’s figure was enveloped in a golden glow, while a silvery-white radiance lit up around her as well.
