I, Son of Odin, Was Threatened?

S.H.I.E.L.D. was seriously badass.

In less than a day, they had built a base covering more than ten thousand square meters in this desolate godforsaken place.

There were no permanent buildings at all, only makeshift sheds and obstacles, but mobilizing such an enormous amount of supplies was already impressive. The Shengun Bureau definitely could not pull that off.

"Looks like it’s time to expand recruitment…" Old Wang nodded to himself.

The two bases at Afterlife and K’un-Lun were being built in an orderly yet intense manner, and progress was not slow.

Inhumans and Kunlun People would make up the main members of the bases, but that was nowhere near enough.

Each base would be roughly the size of S.H.I.E.L.D. Triskelion Headquarters. At least a thousand people would be needed to keep one running, along with professionals in every field, who had to be brought in from outside.

As the Hulk, Abomination Blonsky, and Thor incidents continued to escalate, the entire world would recognize the importance and irreplaceability of the Shengun Bureau.

The Security Council would certainly increase its support, and every country would try every possible way to insert their own people. Old Wang had decided to give them that opportunity.

Before absolute power, all schemes and tricks were meaningless.

No matter how many people came, or what kind of people they were.

If you’re a dragon, coil up for me!

If you’re a tiger, lie down for me!

When the car reached the checkpoint, it was stopped by a S.H.I.E.L.D.-affiliated special forces unit.

"Please present the relevant identification and cooperate with the inspection, ma’am."

The special forces soldier acting as a guard held an assault rifle with a stern expression. "Everyone, get out of the vehicle!"

Seeing the black muzzles of the guns, Miss Jane helplessly turned her head.

Wang, your authority as director doesn’t seem very impressive!

Old Wang rolled down the window and handed over his credentials.

"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division… Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Sorry, sir, but I must report this to my superiors!" The guard hurriedly saluted.

What a joke!

He was just an ordinary special forces soldier with limited standing in S.H.I.E.L.D., possessing only Level 3 clearance.

This base was already impressive enough. There were several Level 7 and Level 8 Agents, along with a whole bunch of Level 5 and Level 6 Agents. Though it had been established less than a day ago, its upper-level staffing alone was among the best in the world.

But the man before him was the director of the Shengun Bureau, on equal footing with Director Fury—a genuine big shot, not someone he could afford to offend.

Of course, S.H.I.E.L.D. was S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Shengun Bureau was the Shengun Bureau. No matter how formidable Director Wang was, he was still an outsider. Letting him in without authorization would mean neglecting his duty.

This was not something a little nobody like him could decide. It was better to let the higher-ups receive him personally, lest something went wrong and dragged him down with it!

A voice carrying a faint smile rang out. "No need. His identity checks out."

The Black Widow, dressed in a black uniform, swayed over with graceful steps, drawing Jane’s attention.

This woman…

So beautiful!

Such a great figure!

So mature!

So alluring!

Most importantly, why did the way she looked at Director Wang feel so familiar?

A woman’s intuition told her that this woman was definitely a formidable rival.

Miss Jane instantly felt immense pressure.

Could she be here to steal my man?

Wang isn’t my man, but I can’t just let another woman take him, can I?

Jane entered battle mode in a second.

"Agent Romanoff."

Old Wang waved, signaling for the Black Widow to get in the car, then smiled. "Thank you for the hard work from S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers Initiative. You’ve all worked hard. We’ll still need your continued cooperation going forward."

The Black Widow walked up to Old Wang, her breath fragrant and her eyes sharp as lightning. "Was it really you who fought that hammer yesterday? You’re even stronger than everyone imagined!"

Old Wang smiled.

I’ll keep refreshing your understanding of me. This is only the beginning.

The Black Widow turned, her electric gaze sweeping over Erik and Darcy before lingering on Jane for two seconds. She smiled faintly, then looked at Thor. "You’re Thor, Son of Odin?"

She smiled, but inwardly she was tense. Her first impression of him was not very good.

This guy…

He reeked of alcohol, behaved carelessly, and could not even stand properly. He was a little handsome, sure, but not better-looking than Captain Rogers. His chest and ass were not particularly impressive either, and he was of average height. No matter how she looked at him, he did not resemble the Thor of myth and legend.

Was he really a prince from a legendary kingdom?

"You know me too?"

Thor looked her up and down, his eyes lighting up. "You’re not bad. Your arms and thighs are sturdy, your lines are smooth, and you look powerful. You’re not as weak as the other Earth women. You’re strong—only a little weaker than a little Asgardian civilian girl!"

Black Widow, Jane, and Darcy: "…"

Is this what Asgardians consider beautiful? You need to be strong to earn approval? How primitive, how animalistic.

And besides…

Only a little weaker than an Asgardian civilian girl? Are you sure that was a compliment?

All three rolled their eyes together, while Thor looked utterly innocent.

That was simply the truth!

Although you were a little stronger than ordinary Earthlings, you were still far inferior to Asgardians. In fact, I had already lied—I was only being polite because you were a woman. My attitude was already very good.

"Where are the others?" Old Wang quickly changed the subject.

"Agent Coulson went to a nearby town to evacuate the civilians. Captain Rogers is temporarily in charge here. He’s inside guarding Thor’s Hammer."

The Black Widow said, "Barton is here too."

Old Wang nodded. "Let’s take a look."

They quickly arrived at the very center of the base and saw Thor’s Hammer.

Old Wang instantly sensed a deep well of resentment. He could not understand what this lousy little hammer was being so proud and aggrieved about, acting like some neglected wife locked away in an inner chamber.

We have nothing to do with each other, okay? At most, you have an unrequited crush on me!

"Director Wang."

Seeing Old Wang arrive, Captain America hurried over to greet him.

After all, in terms of rank, he was at least two levels below Old Wang, and his strength was also two levels lower. Besides, Old Wang had saved his life.

"My hammer, my hammer!"

While the others were still exchanging pleasantries, Thor had already charged toward Thor’s Hammer.

Before anyone else could react, an alloy arrow shot down in front of Thor. Then a cold voice rang out.

"Move one more step, and I guarantee you won’t walk out of this room!"

Thor hurriedly stopped and looked ahead.

A man in a black uniform had appeared at some point, carrying a quiver on his back and holding a compound bow.

He was strong—stronger than that woman just now, and more dangerous too.

With my current physique and condition, I might not actually be able to beat him!

Wait…

I, Son of Odin, future ruler of the Nine Realms, was being threatened by a Midgardian, whose constitution was the weakest in the Nine Realms—and…

I was actually intimidated?

"Agent Barton, he isn’t an enemy."

Old Wang smiled as he introduced him. "He’s Thor, an exiled alien Crown Prince."

Hawkeye’s response was flat. "I’ll keep my eyes on him."

Old Wang nodded and said no more.

Hawkeye was an outstanding agent. He had his own principles, and they deserved encouragement.

Seeing Thor itching to give it a try, Old Wang smiled and made an inviting gesture. "Brother, don’t blame me for not warning you. Things might not go as smoothly as you think. If this hits you hard, I’ll lend you my shoulder."

Thor burst into laughter. "Haha! Mjolnir is my hammer. We’ve long become one, man and hammer! I’m just taking back my weapon. What is there to worry about? No problem!"

He strode over like a victorious warrior returning home to see his wife.
