Kyle and Thor
"Tch. You’re just a vagrant. Kyle is an urban elite. How can you compare?"
Daisy immediately snapped at Thor. Crossing her arms over her ample chest, she huffed in dissatisfaction. "And let me remind you, everything you’re wearing and eating now was kindly provided by us. Don’t be so demanding."
"How am I a vagrant? Ignorant mortal."
Thor swallowed the beef in his mouth and wiped the grease from the corner of his lips. Grabbing a fried chicken drumstick, a serious look appeared on his rugged face as he said with faint majesty, "Let me reiterate. I am the supreme Son of Odin, Thor, God of Thunder who commands lightning, and the future ruler of the Nine Realms."
The people at the table remained perfectly calm, as if they had grown used to it. They silently lowered their heads and continued eating.
Seeing that no one paid him any attention, Thor could not help feeling somewhat discouraged. Everywhere he had gone before, he had been met with the reverence and submission of every alien race. Yet after coming to Earth, he was somehow worse off than ordinary people.
"All right, hurry up and eat. We’ll talk after you’re full," Jane comforted him.
Thor did not reply. He gloomily began gnawing on the chicken leg in his hand.
Kyle secretly shook his head. Thor truly had no divine power left now. Even his physique had become as weak as that of an ordinary mortal. Even if Kyle deliberately revealed his divine power, he would not have been able to discern Thor’s identity.
Kyle could see that the purple Ability Card representing the gods still existed on Thor’s body. However, the card possessed not the slightest radiance now; it was dim and gray, sealed in an inactive state.
Odin could actually seal a purple-quality Ability Card? Or could he only seal divine power belonging to the gods?
Kyle pondered silently, raising his brows. Compared to old monsters on Odin or Ancient One’s level, he could more clearly understand just how great the gap was between himself and the universe’s strongest beings.
As for card quality, above purple was gold; above gold was colorless.
Every step upward was an earth-shattering leap.
For the time being, Kyle classified purple quality as planet-level. In other words, possessing a purple Ability Card was already enough to run rampant across a planet. Those with rare purple-prefix Ability Cards already stood at the current ceiling of Earth’s combat power.
He, Hulk, and Thor after recovering his divine power were, for now, all within this semi-invincible realm.
The reason it was only semi-invincible was mainly because holders of gold-quality Ability Cards or above were simply far too few in this starry expanse. But being few did not mean they did not exist…
Kyle slowly and methodically chewed his food, pondering various matters, when a strong, powerful arm suddenly reached over and warmly draped itself over his shoulder.
Holding a cup in his other hand, Thor tipped back his head and drained a large mug of beer. He then boldly smashed the glass onto the floor and laughed heartily as he shouted, "Tastes good! Another one!"
The shattering glass and his strange yell caused the other diners and waiters in the restaurant to turn and stare. The group seated at the corner table instantly became the center of attention.
"Um, we’ll pay for it," Jane hurriedly said, trying to smooth things over.
Daisy glared at Thor and lowered her voice. "Please, can you stop throwing things around? You keep saying you’re the Son of Odin. So what if you’re a god? Does that mean you can just smash things?"
"All right, I’ll try to control myself." Thor knew he had done something wrong and sighed awkwardly.
"You want another drink, right? Here, drink this."
Kyle smiled and pushed over a glass of beer he had not touched.
"Good. You, my friend, I accept." Thor’s eyes brightened. He heavily slapped Kyle on the shoulder, raised the glass one-handed, and tipped his head back to gulp it all down in one go.
Daisy and Jane had initially worried that this rough brute might use too much force and injure Kyle with his careless slap.
Yet, to their surprise, Kyle’s expression remained calm. Even after several heavy pats from Thor, his shoulder had not moved in the slightest.
With an arm around Kyle’s shoulder, Thor suddenly seemed to remember something and asked, "By the way, you said this place is Earth, right?"
Faced with such an idiotic question, Daisy rolled her eyes. "Big guy, what is it now?"
"Nothing. If this is Earth, then an old friend of mine should be living here." Thor took a deep breath and asked expectantly, "Do you know Kyle?"
As soon as he asked that question, the entire restaurant fell silent once more. Then quite a few people secretly shook their heads and laughed.
Daisy held her forehead and said as if it were a joke, "Are you sure… Mr. Kyle is an old friend of yours? Wait, I don’t think we’re talking about the same person."
"What’s wrong? Isn’t he silver-haired? He looks young and handsome, with a little of my former bearing."
Thor praised himself as he spoke, then pointed at Kyle beside him. "He looks a little like him."
"Lots of people say that." When the others looked at him, Kyle merely smiled calmly, without the slightest emotion showing on his face.
Jane withdrew her gaze and said to Thor, "If you mean the Symbol of Peace, forget whether we know him or not. There’s probably no one in this world who doesn’t know him."
"Symbol of Peace? Then it must be him. He became the guardian of our divine realm as a mortal. Wherever he went, he shone brightly."
What Thor said happened to strike right at Kyle’s heart. He felt exceptionally pleased, quietly sighing that his special trip here had not been a waste of time.
Of course, this was also giving Odin plenty of face.
Thor said happily, "Since you know him, do you have Kyle’s contact information? Isn’t there something called a phone? Call him now and ask him to come over. He said that when I came to Earth, he would receive me properly."
Am I not receiving you right now?
Kyle complained silently.
Daisy continued her sharp-tongued assault, spreading her hands. "Everyone, I think we should take him back to the hospital. Not only does he have eighth-grader syndrome, he also has a severe case of delusional disorder."
This time, Jane nodded in agreement. Contact the Symbol of Peace and ask him to come out? There were probably not many people in the world capable of doing that.
Erik, who had just returned, happened to overhear the conversation. Smiling as though he were joking, he said, "All right, I’ll pay for this meal. Consider it a treat on behalf of Mr. Kyle, all the way in New York."
"Long live our mentor!" Daisy cheered excitedly.
Jane frowned slightly and silently looked at Kyle, Thor, and Erik. At that moment, she seemed to realize something, though she had yet to completely confirm it.
After all, if her guess was true, it would be far too shocking!
New York, a rented apartment building in a residential district.
Eddie was snoring soundly in bed, drool hanging from the corner of his mouth as he dreamed of becoming a famous reporter and marrying a beautiful, wealthy woman as soon as possible.
All of a sudden, the room he was in… no, the entire building began shaking violently as though an earthquake had struck. Every piece of furniture and light fixture swayed from side to side without stopping.
Crash!
When the alarm clock beside his bed fell to the floor, Eddie jolted awake from his dream. He sprang upright from the bed like a fish flopping over and instinctively searched for his slippers.
Before he could put them on, another huge muffled boom and a powerful tremor came from the neighboring room.
"What’s going on next door? Demolition?"
Panicked, Eddie wore nothing but zebra-striped boxers. He slipped on his slippers and hurriedly shuffled toward the door.
