Leaving and a New World

The next day, Zhang Ye finally slept in for the first time in ages.

It was the most comfortable sleep he had had in a long time. There was no suffocating pressure, no trouble that could threaten his life at any moment—only a full stomach and a soft, comfortable mattress. This was what Zhang Ye had always sought.

By the time he groggily climbed out of bed, it was already noon. Startled, Zhang Ye hurriedly got dressed and headed outside.

When he arrived in the living room of Wayne Castle, Zhang Ye was surprised to find that everyone except him was already up. Pietro and Little Barry Allen were playing mobile games, while Kara was cooking with Old Bruce Wayne. Though calling it cooking together was not quite accurate—Old Bruce was doing most of the work, while Kara merely assisted from the side.

"Why didn’t anyone wake me up?" Zhang Ye rubbed his eyes and staggered over to the others. Perhaps he had slept too long, but his head still felt a little foggy.

"Zhang, you’re awake. We saw how exhausted you were, so we wanted to let you rest a little longer. Besides, there was no rush," Pietro said, raising a hand in greeting.

"That still doesn’t mean you should’ve let me sleep until noon. Gotham City’s weather is just weird. It’s overcast and rainy every day, making it impossible to get out of bed." Zhang Ye walked to the table, picked up a teacup, and took a sip.

Everyone knew rainy days made for good sleep. Gotham City’s weather was practically a blessing for insomniacs. Even though it was noon, it was still dim outside, and the lights had to be on inside the castle just to brighten the room.

"Who told you to drink so much last night? I told you that liquor had quite a kick to it." Old Bruce Wayne served up the cooked noodles and poured the prepared meat sauce over them. "You got up at just the right time, too. Otherwise, I was about to have Kara go upstairs and wake you."

Smelling the rich aroma of the noodles and sauce, Zhang Ye felt his stomach growl. After sleeping for so long, he really was starving.

As he carried his bowl of noodles to the table, Zhang Ye looked around and suddenly realized someone seemed to be missing. "Where’s Barry Allen? Don’t tell me he’s still asleep too. Why don’t I see him?"

"Him? He left a long time ago." Old Bruce Wayne came over to the table as well, found a seat, and spoke leisurely. "That kid has something weighing on his mind. Things on our end have been settled, but the mess he caused still hasn’t been dealt with."

"When did he leave?"

"A little after six. You were all still asleep. He said goodbye to me and left, saying he didn’t want to disturb you. I figure he was too embarrassed to say farewell to you all, considering the huge mistake he made."

"Alright." Zhang Ye responded but said nothing else. He had originally wondered if he could use Barry Allen to locate DC’s Movie Universe, but after thinking it over, he gave up on the idea.

After all, when he had transmigrated, DC’s Movie Universe had still been a complete mess. After the reboot, only Blue Beetle had come out. Even if he went there, he did not know much about the plot or events. It would be far too easy to put himself in danger.

After finishing their meal, Zhang Ye and the others made their preparations to leave.

Pietro and Kara both changed into ordinary casual clothes, with their combat suits worn underneath. That way, they would not stand out the instant they crossed over. If they ended up somewhere crowded, wearing combat suits would draw far too much attention.

As for Zhang Ye, he did not make any changes. His trench coat was normal enough; the only distinctive thing was his Bird-Beak Mask. Fortunately, the Time Twister had a special storage space for keeping items, so Zhang Ye tossed most of his belongings into the separate dimension.

Zhang Ye did not know how large that separate dimension was, but according to Miss Minutes, it was a special dimension that did not belong to any Multiverse or timeline. There were no rules or living beings inside, only endless nothingness. In short, it was a bottomless pit that could never be filled.

Since there was nothing inside and no way to store living beings there, Zhang Ye treated it as a portable backpack, stuffing it with all sorts of supplies, weapons, and equipment.

With Old Batman’s full support, Zhang Ye had even stored a small mountain of gold inside. In most universes, gold and silver were hard currency, ensuring that Zhang Ye would not end up penniless and unable to produce any money in other universes.

Once everything was ready, Zhang Ye silently contacted Miss Minutes under the watchful eyes of Bruce Wayne and Little Barry Allen, asking her to open a random passage to another universe in the Multiverse.

This time, Zhang Ye had discussed things with Miss Minutes in advance. Although the universe they would enter was random, Zhang Ye had set the specific destination to Earth.

He was afraid of somehow crossing directly into outer space, which would be no different from suicide.

Thinking back to the first time he had asked the Time Twister to open a portal, Zhang Ye could not help feeling a lingering chill. Being able to arrive on this universe’s Earth really had been a blessing from the goddess of luck.

"We’re off."

Zhang Ye and the other two said their goodbyes, then stopped lingering and walked straight through the purple doorway.

The next second, the incredibly damp air of the Batcave vanished instantly, replaced by a biting chill. Zhang Ye felt as though he had stepped into an air-conditioned room, with cold air rushing toward him.

When he looked closely, he found himself standing in a dark alley, with several trash cans beside him. The surrounding skyscrapers had no distinguishing features, while a few clouds drifted slowly through the sky. Judging by the climate, this universe was in autumn.

"So this is Earth in another universe? No matter how many times I see this ability, it’s still just as miraculous," Kara said after briefly looking around.

"You don’t feel anything unusual, do you?" Zhang Ye asked, turning toward her.

Although every Earth was located in the Solar System, Zhang Ye could not guarantee that the radiation from every sun was the same. He was worried that the sun’s radiation in a different universe might affect Kara.

"Mm, I’m fine. I don’t feel anything unusual. My strength hasn’t weakened either—it even feels a little stronger." Kara clenched her fist, sensing the power in her hand as she answered.

"That’s good. If you feel anything unusual, tell me immediately."

At that moment, Pietro could not help speaking up from the side. "By the way, why do we end up beside trash cans every time we cross over? Zhang, are you doing this on purpose?"

Zhang Ye coughed awkwardly. He did not really know either. "It’s better than teleporting straight onto the street, isn’t it? Don’t forget, to the people of this world, the three of us are genuine ‘outsiders.’"

Just as they were chatting, urgent police sirens suddenly sounded from outside the alley.

Zhang Ye and the others looked toward the sound and vaguely saw an armored truck speeding past the narrow alley entrance, followed by several police cars racing after it.
