Limitless Supreme Polarity, Border Pass Cang Nan
Erha ran along the line of fire and quickly carried Su Yu beyond the border pass. After getting down, Su Yu looked at Erha and said, "I don’t know how long I’ll be staying here. Go have some fun in this world yourself, but don’t cause trouble. You’re not allowed to use your full strength."
"Awwooo!" Erha’s eyes lit up, and he cried out twice in delight.
Su Yu said speechlessly, "You can talk, and you can transform into human form, so why the hell do you always want to be a dog? Talk to me like a person from now on. Stop going ‘awoo, awoo, awoo.’"
"Awwooo!" Erha immediately nodded in agreement.
Su Yu flicked him on the head, and Erha took off running. Su Yu was left standing there, utterly dumbfounded. "Damn it, I haven’t even said you could leave, and you’re already running? Is it that I can’t lift my blade anymore, or have you gotten too full of yourself? Just wait until we leave this world—I’ll make sure to straighten you out!"
Erha was incredibly fast and soon vanished beyond the border pass. His strength was formidable, already comparable to a saint of the Prehistoric Times. That was because Su Yu had expended Dominion Power to grant him spiritual intelligence.
The border city was enormous, undoubtedly the largest city in the Immortal Realm. It had only two gates: the Supreme Polarity Gate facing the Demon Realm, and the Limitless Gate facing the Immortal Realm.
The Supreme Polarity Gate was tightly shut every day, for fear that the Demon Realm would charge in. The Limitless Gate, on the other hand, stood wide open day and night, with no immortal soldiers guarding it. This was because of the border city’s barrier. Ordinary citizens within the city could never leave for all eternity, while immortal soldiers needed the military tokens of those ten Great Luo True Immortals to depart.
Su Yu headed toward the Limitless Gate. Seeing that the City Gate looked as though it had been abandoned for centuries, he was at a loss for words. Once inside, he arrived on the main street. Unlike other cities, where streets and alleys were packed with lively vendors, this place was utterly silent.
The silence was so unnatural that Su Yu pinched his fingers and calculated. It had to be said that Reverse Knowing the Future, one of the Thirty-Six Heavenly Transformations, was indeed quite useful. Before long, Su Yu learned why there was not a single person on the streets.
After finishing his calculation, Su Yu’s expression turned grim. What border city was this, supposedly guarding the frontier? This was clearly a living hell!
Su Yu had just learned that the ten Great Luo True Immortals had never gone out to fight even once since arriving here. Instead, they indulged themselves in pleasure every day, ordering immortal soldiers to seize male civilians to build towering structures—not just one or two, but dozens or even hundreds of them. As for female civilians, any who came of age were captured for the ten men’s amusement.
By now, Su Yu’s face was so dark it seemed almost black. When had he ever witnessed something so vile? He truly wanted to kill those ten men. He headed for the military camp.
At the military camp’s entrance, just like at the Limitless Gate, there was not a soul in sight. After entering, he saw group after group of people gathered together, cracking sunflower seeds and chatting idly.
Su Yu walked onto the drill grounds and asked, "Who’s in charge here?"
Hearing Su Yu’s voice, everyone suddenly noticed the extra person in their midst. One of them shouted, "Hey, who the hell are you? How did you get in here? Get lost, get lost!"
Su Yu said coldly, "I’ll ask one more time. Who is in charge here?"
Perhaps intimidated by Su Yu’s tone, one of the more timid men said, "It’s Lord Cang Nan."
"Where is he now?" Su Yu continued.
Just as the man was about to answer, several others immediately stood up and came before Su Yu. Pointing at him, they said, "Who the hell are you? Don’t you know where this is? Get the hell out of here!"
The Dragongallbladder Bright Silver Spear appeared in Su Yu’s hand. With a single strike, he severed the man’s arm and said indifferently, "Insubordination is a crime punishable by death. Since this is your first offense, I’ll spare your life. If there’s a next time, I’ll kill you without mercy!"
"Ah!" The man’s face flushed red from the pain as he screamed.
Su Yu paid him no mind. He took out the Tiger Seal and said, "I am General Su Yu, dispatched by the Heavenly Court. From this day onward, you are my soldiers. If any of you fail to obey military camp rules, I won’t mind cutting you down."
Everyone immediately dropped to their knees and shouted, "Greetings, General Su!"
Su Yu said calmly, "Get up. Take this man away for treatment, then send someone to find Cang Nan."
"Yes!" Everyone immediately got busy. It was not because they were diligent, but because they feared Su Yu would stab them with his spear.
Su Yu knew of Cang Nan. He was one of the hundred Great Luo Heavenly Immortals, and the only high-ranking officer at the border pass who had volunteered to come here. Everyone else had gone off to indulge in pleasure. Only Cang Nan had remained in the military camp the entire time. Yet many of these people refused to listen to him, leaving him helpless.
Before long, a man in azure armor arrived before Su Yu. There was a scar across his face. Rather than making him look ugly, it lent him an air of maturity.
Cang Nan clasped his fists and dropped to one knee. "This subordinate, Cang Nan, greets the general."
Su Yu smiled and helped Cang Nan up. "General Cang, there’s no need for such formality. Let’s find somewhere private to talk."
"This subordinate obeys." With that, Cang Nan led Su Yu to his room. He had always lived in the military camp. The only difference between his quarters and those of ordinary immortal soldiers was that he had a room to himself; everything inside, from the furnishings to the decorations, was exactly the same.
Su Yu sat down in a chair, then pointed at the bed beside him. "Have a seat."
"Thank you, General." Cang Nan nodded and sat down.
Su Yu looked at Cang Nan and asked, "I heard you were the only person at the border pass who came here voluntarily. Can you tell me why?"
Cang Nan said with a resolute expression, "Ever since I was young, I saw countless weak people bullied by the strong. I was bullied by those stronger than me as well. My parents died at the hands of others. During that time, I cultivated desperately. Once my strength surpassed that of my enemies, I killed them and joined the Heavenly Court."
"Back then, the Heavenly Court was always sending me to capture this demon or that demon, or helping powerful people search for their lost pets. I grew tired of that life, so I came here voluntarily. I wanted to devote all my strength to protecting the weak people behind me."
Su Yu smiled, though his voice was cold. "If that’s the case, then why didn’t you help when the people of the border pass were suffering?"
Cang Nan froze. "Aren’t those people at the border pass all heinous criminals?"
Su Yu was also taken aback, then smiled and shook his head. "I forgot. It’s impossible for everyone to know about this."
Then Su Yu told Cang Nan why the border pass citizens had been sealed inside the border city. After hearing it, Cang Nan rose furiously to his feet and started toward the door.
Su Yu asked, "Where are you going?"
Cang Nan said coldly, "To kill immortals!"
Hearing that answer, Su Yu smiled. "What if you can’t beat them?"
Cang Nan gripped the sword at his waist. After a long while, he said, "Even if I can’t beat them, I still have to fight. Killing even one of them counts for something!"
