Myocardial Infarction

So, most of the people in S.H.I.E.L.D. were Hydra infiltrators now, right?

Hearing Talos’s words, Nick Fury looked especially depressed.

He had never imagined that his own headquarters had secretly been occupied by Hydra.

He had worked tirelessly, running around every day to develop S.H.I.E.L.D., and now he was even planning cooperation with aliens.

Yet Nick Fury had never imagined—

He was still out there farming, only for the enemy to steal his base crystal at home!

Hydra’s people were simply inhuman. Who the hell infiltrated an organization like you people did?

There were more infiltrators than actual employees. What kind of nonsense was this? They might as well rise up and rename S.H.I.E.L.D. Hydra.

Nick Fury was exhausted. He really wanted to throw in the towel and quit!

Who played like this?

"Can you tell me? Which people are Hydra?"

Even so, Nick Fury had a strong heart and was not about to be defeated so easily.

So he looked at Talos, hoping to obtain some useful intelligence so that he would have room to resist.

He was unwilling to let his S.H.I.E.L.D. become someone else’s possession so easily.

After all, Nick Fury had relied on his shamelessness to develop S.H.I.E.L.D. into what it was today.

He had poured far too much effort into S.H.I.E.L.D. and was unwilling to give it up now.

Therefore, Nick Fury wanted to find out just how many people in S.H.I.E.L.D. were truly on his side.

And how many were Hydra infiltrators.

Without figuring that out, there was no way to fight back, so Nick Fury asked Talos.

After all, Talos was still disguised as Pierce, so Nick Fury naturally wanted to get some useful information from him.

"I don’t know for now." Talos shook his head and continued, "However, according to Pierce’s memories, there are Hydra infiltrators among the Avengers."

The Avengers were a Super Hero team that Nick Fury had built with all his strength.

And now he was being told that this team, which he had been so confident in, actually contained infiltrators? The blow to Nick Fury was unimaginable.

"The Avengers?" Nick Fury fell silent for a while. After thinking about it, it did not seem impossible. After all, most of the Avengers were outstanding agents selected from S.H.I.E.L.D.

Now that it was known that most people in S.H.I.E.L.D. were Hydra infiltrators, it was only logical that there would be Hydra infiltrators among the Avengers as well.

But who could it be?

Who was currently in the Avengers? Black Widow Natasha and Hawkeye Barton were both his trusted aides, so they should still be reliable.

Of course, that was what Nick Fury thought. Both of them had Kirin Armor. Although it seemed much weaker than the advanced armor from China, there was no denying that they were undoubtedly the strongest people in S.H.I.E.L.D. at present.

If both of them were Hydra infiltrators, then he might as well stop playing and surrender directly.

So Nick Fury decided to trust his instincts one more time. He believed those two were not Hydra infiltrators.

Then Tony Stark definitely was not one, which left Captain America Rogers and Crossbones Rumlow.

Of those two, Captain America was the hero who had once destroyed Hydra, so he could not possibly be one of them. That left Rumlow as the only possible suspect.

Fortunately, Rumlow had only ever been a reserve candidate and had never truly become part of the Avengers’ core.

That was the only thing Nick Fury could be happy about now.

"The only suspicious one among the Avengers should be Rumlow," Nick Fury declared with certainty.

"So this is just your guess too?" Talos looked at Nick Fury speechlessly and continued, "Come to think of it, your instincts seem to have never been right."

Wasn’t that true? Nick Fury had always believed in his instincts—or rather, his own judgment. Ivan Vanko and Abomination had both caused trouble because of Nick Fury’s arrogance, because he had believed he had them under control.

And now Nick Fury still wanted to trust his instincts?

Could he at least have some self-awareness?

"…"

What else could he do if he did not trust his own judgment? Nick Fury was helpless. He did not want things to be this way either!

"Find an opportunity to approach them. You ask them whether they’re infiltrators first, then I’ll transform into them. That way, we’ll know whether they really are infiltrators."

Skrulls could only obtain recent memories? Easy. They just had to reinforce those recent memories.

Ask them directly to their faces, then have Talos transform into them. That way, they could find out whether the person was an infiltrator.

Simply perfect!

Well, this would also be a good method for interrogating people in the future. Ask questions directly, reinforce the other person’s recent memories, then have a Skrull transform into them and obtain their memories. Wouldn’t that reveal whatever information they wanted?

And that was actually why every civilization disliked Skrulls.

No one wanted a race that could casually transform into their appearance and easily obtain all sorts of intelligence and research achievements.

Although the Kree Empire was the only one hunting Skrulls in the Marvel World, no civilization that knew of their abilities could possibly like them.

The fact that Skrulls had become interstellar refugees was also because of this talent.

Moreover, not all Skrulls were good people. They had their own villains, and there were rumors throughout the universe that Skrulls secretly invaded other civilizations.

If there were no such facts, how could such rumors possibly have emerged?

Normally, who with even a little sense would want this race around them?

Only someone like Nick Fury, whose brain had clearly short-circuited, would think of cooperating with Skrulls.

Of course, it was also possible that Nick Fury simply coveted their advanced technology. After all, aside from the Chinese, humans on Earth had not even left Earth yet. Compared with Earth, Skrull technology was indeed vastly superior.

It was understandable that Nick Fury would suck up to the Skrulls.

"So, Hill, are you one of Hydra’s people?"

As he spoke, Nick Fury looked at Hill, who had been following behind him.

"???"

Hill was furious. She had worked diligently for him and labored for S.H.I.E.L.D., yet he was now suspecting her? Suspecting that she was a Hydra infiltrator?

After speaking, Nick Fury also looked toward Talos, his meaning obvious.

"Understood." Talos nodded and transformed into Hill right in front of her.
