Nereus

Britain, Liverpool.

Elsewhere in Britain, things were unknown, but the situation here was far better than on America’s East Coast.

As though background music had started playing, a woman in a short-skirted suit of armor charged across the battlefield with sword and shield in hand.

"The land dwellers are quite strong."

Nereus, King of Xebel, held a sea trident as he rode a glowing seahorse, watching the raging waves by the distant shore.

The Saltwater Kingdom’s soldiers were leading the charge.

Xebel, meanwhile, had only sent out large numbers of tamed sea monsters to assist in battle.

Of course, those sea monsters were formidable as well, just not as powerful as Atlantis’s massive warships.

Xebel had such warships too.

In terms of overall strength, the two were evenly matched. Atlantis possessed stronger technology, while Xebel had stronger magic. Mera, who was proficient in water magic, was a prime example.

Atlantis and Xebel were the strongest among the four surviving undersea kingdoms. The Saltwater Kingdom, meanwhile, was in the same league as the weakest, the Fisherman Nation.

The latter had achieved great things in art and possessed decent magic, but it was rather ordinary in every other respect.

The Saltwater Kingdom had the weakest technology of the four undersea kingdoms, and its magic was comparatively primitive. However, it possessed vast stockpiles of conventional equipment, and due to generations of life beneath the sea, its people had mutated shells like reptiles.

The Fisherman Nation’s residents were at least half-human, half-fish, while the Saltwater Kingdom’s people looked practically like seafood. Still, although their weapons were less advanced, their soldiers’ average individual combat power was extremely strong.

"Are those Amazons? Are they joining the humans in battle?"

The King of Xebel raised a hand, turning pure seawater into a telescope as he looked toward the battlefield by the shore.

"No, it seems to be just one person."

An attendant answered.

"What about that one flying so fast our weapons can’t hit him?"

"I don’t know, but he counters us badly."

The King of Xebel looked up at the sky.

A bright blue bolt of lightning flashed across the heavens.

Frozen bombs fell one after another from the sky and into the sea, freezing vast stretches of water near the coastline into an icy plain.

The King of Xebel was thankful that he had not committed his main force, or this wave would have cost him dearly.

The technology of the army under his command was indeed more advanced, but they had never fought on land before.

Humans, on the other hand, had struggled on land since their birth. Even with more advanced weapons, Xebel would still suffer greatly.

Not to mention that the enemy had two hero units, both ridiculously powerful.

"Hah!"

Amid a furious roar that seemed to have come from an ancient mythological battlefield, a gigantic sea monster dozens of meters tall was beheaded by the Sword of Vulcan.

The next instant, a pair of silver bracers slammed together, releasing a powerful shockwave that shattered the ice beneath her feet while snapping the giant serpents surrounding her into several pieces.

"Damn, she’s fierce…"

Shimizu flew overhead, controlling the White Warrior as it unleashed frozen bombs and all kinds of high-explosive missiles without restraint.

Perhaps these weapons would struggle to do much against stronger opponents, at most serving as a distraction, but they were perfect for dealing with massive armies.

As for whether he would run out of ammunition, Shimizu did not think that was possible anytime soon.

The White Warrior’s former ammunition limit had already been resolved.

The interior of the armor’s ammunition compartment was covered in summoning arrays etched with Shimizu’s blood, connected to a large warehouse in Gotham.

Those munitions were enough for Shimizu to keep this up for an entire day.

Beside the warehouse was an ammunition production line. If that was not enough, Watos could be called in to carry out unmanned production on-site.

Yes, Watos had first been created in the DC World after Shimizu, Victor, and Cisco modified Lex Luthor’s lexos framework. Its incarnation in the Marvel World had merely copied the process.

For Shimizu, this battle was practically a leisurely stroll.

Any slightly tougher targets had already been dealt with by the woman below.

It had been a long time since Shimizu had experienced a battle where he could take things so easily.

"Hey! Guy flying up there."

Diana smashed the sea monster before her unconscious with her shield, then used the Lasso of Truth to latch onto the clouds and swing over to Shimizu.

"Hello, ma’am."

Shimizu raised a hand and fired a high-energy particle cannon. Shells from the cannons on his shoulders and back poured down like rain, indiscriminately bombarding the ice field and the sea.

"Can you freeze the sea in that direction too? The kings of Xebel and the Saltwater Kingdom should be there. If we can use ice to limit their water magic, I’ll have a better chance of taking them down."

Diana pointed in a direction.

"Sure."

Shimizu nodded readily.

With the White Warrior’s Nth Metal-plated shell and a Speed Force Dagger that worked for a limited time, Shimizu was confident that he now possessed the strength to take on an entire nation alone within that time limit.

But with such a powerful fighter holding the line ahead of him, he was more than happy to hang back and provide support.

Frozen bombs poured down once more, freezing vast areas of the sea into icy plains.

Countless sea monsters and seafood soldiers of the Saltwater Kingdom were frozen into blocks of ice in that instant, then blown into fragments by missiles.

It had to be said that even while taking it easy, the number of sea monsters and Saltwater Kingdom soldiers killed by Shimizu was not much lower than Diana’s.

Frozen bombs made using Mr. Freeze’s coolant were the perfect counter to these aquatic races.

Diana swung the Lasso of Truth and, under Shimizu’s cover, launched herself toward the distance in a great leap.

"It’s time to withdraw our troops, King Riva."

Nereus spoke as he gripped a trident similar to the one in Orm’s hand.

"We haven’t lost yet. Why should we surrender?"

Spray churned, waves rose, and an enormous crab as massive as a mountain emerged from beneath the surface.

Compared to this crab, the giant sea monsters from before were like infants next to adults.

Xerxes Ryo, King of the Saltwater Kingdom, stood atop the astonishingly huge beast.

He looked somewhat like a lobster, gripping another trident with a pair of limbs resembling claws.

Except this one was made of bone.

Among these undersea kingdoms that had split off from ancient Atlantis, the trident represented a king’s authority.

"This isn’t surrender. It’s simply that continuing the battle would cost more than it gains. We attacked the land because humans were destroying the ocean. Now that we’ve demonstrated our strength to humanity, it’s time to make them sign a treaty with us and protect the environment."

Nereus said calmly.

He was not afraid of battle. On the contrary, his combat strength was far from weak.

Mera had not been born knowing that water magic.

Nereus was also of royal blood. In terms of lineage and talent, he was not much inferior to Orm or Arthur, and his combat ability was not to be underestimated.

Ahem, it’s the end of the month, so I’m shamelessly asking for monthly votes. I’ll build up some chapters over the next couple of days. If we can reach one thousand votes this month, I’ll post extra chapters in a few days.
