Newly Acquired Flying Tool

Replacing Jason with Jian Feizao’s body was partly to increase their combat strength in case of emergencies, and partly to have Jason fly up and scout the situation.

This World Quest was to escape alive. The exit from the underground world was hidden within one of five ruins. Russell had not forgotten his mission. Unlike the Reincarnators, who had to defeat Imhotep and the Scorpion King, he had no such need.

With a new body, Jason leaped from the spot and wobbled into the sky. He was a little unaccustomed to it at first, but the brat’s true nature soon showed itself. He flew faster and faster…

A hundred meters away below, the battle was completely one-sided. Imhotep was powerful, but he still could not withstand the combined beating from more than thirty Reincarnators. First, he was pinned down by shadows, then trapped in place by a Magic Circle diagram and subjected to concentrated fire.

Imhotep screamed repeatedly, reviving himself over and over at the cost of Magic Power. In the end, his Magic Power ran dry, and he was beaten into scattered sand.

After dealing with Imhotep, the Reincarnators resumed their usual mutual wariness. The Scorpion King’s statue stood right before them, yet no one dared make the first move.

The situation was crystal clear. It was like playing Red Light, Green Light—whoever moved first would die!

There was no point in dragging things out. The leaders of the various squads stepped forward, seven people in total, with Ying Yingying among them.

The seven discussed joining forces to attack the Scorpion King’s statue. If this truly was the correct way to clear the stage, they could complete the pyramid ruin exploration together.

To avoid the awkward situation where one strike failed to kill the Scorpion King and instead released him from his seal, the mages among the Reincarnator squads first set up a confinement array. Layer upon layer, they surrounded the statue so tightly that even if he revived, he would only become a living target.

At that moment, Jason descended from the sky and stood before Russell.

Jason: (._.)

"You said that when you flew halfway up, you encountered a restriction, and the way ahead was blocked so you couldn’t keep flying?"

Jason: (._.)

"The restriction’s defense was extremely strong, and even a knife couldn’t cut through it?"

Jason: (._.)

"You tried your fists too, but still couldn’t break the restriction… All right, I understand. Go stand over there. It’s cooler there."

Russell rubbed his chin. There was a restriction in the sky, which made it highly likely that the real exit was up there. Based on his many years of experience playing dungeon-clearing games, the only way to break the restriction was to kill the Scorpion King first.

"So, I just need to sit back and watch. With more than thirty Reincarnators, they can grind the Scorpion King to death eventually!"

Russell sat firmly on the high platform and silently gave his intelligence a thumbs-up. This World Quest was fantastic—not only could he easily farm lottery chances, but the Reincarnators would even help clear out monsters he encountered. Hopefully, the next one would be like this too.

Rumble rumble!!

Below, the seven Reincarnator squad leaders joined forces, and attacks of every color struck the Scorpion King’s statue at once. With a deafening blast, the twenty-meter-tall statue exploded instantly, scattering rubble everywhere.

Russell’s eyes flashed. The statue had been blown to pieces, yet strange black mist still lingered. Looking closely, its true source lay beneath the statue. A pitch-black opening continuously spewed out dark fog.

"Roar roar roar—"

Amid furious roars, a dark and evil aura surged wildly as a massive shadow crawled out of the cave.

The Scorpion King was a fusion of man and scorpion, standing over five meters tall by estimate. His venomous scorpion lower body was hideous and terrifying, gleaming with a metallic sheen. His front claws were massive and razor-sharp, while his poisonous tail lashed about. Black venom dripped to the ground, corroding smoking pits into it.

His humanoid upper body was clad in heavy black armor. He held a golden war spear in each hand, while his head was shrouded in black mist, leaving only two scarlet eyes visible.

Though he was far away, Russell could clearly feel the pressure emanating from the Scorpion King. No wonder the Main God had suggested that Reincarnator squads could cooperate. A single team stood very little chance against him.

"Attack! Full firepower! Don’t hold back—take him down together!"

They had initially chosen the wrong target, mistakenly believing the statue was the Scorpion King’s true body. It was too late for regrets now. Fortunately, the confinement array they had set up in advance remained. Golden threads whipped about, tugging at the Scorpion King’s body, and even his lashing tail was firmly bound to the ground.

The five-meter-tall living target immediately drew a barrage of frenzied attacks. Watching the miserable Scorpion King below, Russell made the sign of the cross over his chest.

"Why isn’t he dead yet?"

As soon as the Scorpion King died, the restriction above would be lifted. Whether the real exit was here would also become clear immediately. Russell silently cheered the Reincarnators on.

"Roar roar roar—"

A sudden roar drowned out the Reincarnators’ overwhelming offensive. The Scorpion King threw back his head and spat out a mass of black mist, which transformed into a lightning-fast shockwave. In the blink of an eye, it passed Russell’s position and shot into the sky.

The restriction was directly above. Russell hurriedly looked up, only to hear an explosive crash like shattering glass. Immense dark power broke through the seal, casting boundless shadows.

A shadow shaped like a scorpion dove to the ground, dyeing the walls in every direction black as it passed. The shadow descended and merged with its surroundings, eroding the stone walls into floating black grains of sand.

Within the spreading black shadows, clusters of humanoid phantoms swelled up. A moment later, they transformed into terrifying wolf-headed, human-bodied monsters wielding all kinds of weapons.

Anubis’s Underworld Army!

These undead monsters stood over three meters tall, with sharp claws and fangs and rotting flesh covering their bodies. Though their forms were gaunt, their eyes were especially vicious and bloodthirsty.

"Roar roar roar!!!"

Roars came one after another, gathering into a deafening thunder. The Underworld Army had slept for a long time, and upon detecting the scent of living humans, every one of them became wildly excited. They brandished their blades, ran straight down the walls while ignoring gravity, and from afar, their momentum resembled a terrifying tidal wave.

"Don’t be afraid. Once we kill the Scorpion King, Anubis’s army will disappear."

The Reincarnators split into two groups. One created obstacles to stop the Underworld Army from descending, while the other increased their output and frantically attacked the Scorpion King trapped within the array.

Just then, the hall floor trembled and collapsed, opening abyssal fissures. These twisting cracks varied in size, splitting the hall into several sections.

Beneath the cracks was a fiery red glow, like slowly flowing magma. But a closer look revealed that it was actually an ocean formed from gathered blood. Countless arms reached out from the steep walls of the abyss as tormented undead wailed in agony, cursing the living and trying to drag them into hell to suffer alongside them.

Several Reincarnators were focused solely on attacking the Scorpion King. When the fissures opened beneath their feet, they were a step too slow to evade them and fell into the bottomless abyss, never climbing back out.

Russell stood at the entrance of the passageway. Watching the Underworld Army charge toward him, he snapped his fingers and summoned Jason.

Russell kicked Jason to the ground, stepped on his back, and pointed upward. "Fly up there and see if there’s an exit."

After serving as a thug, bodyguard, scapegoat, and bullet shield, Jason had gained yet another identity—a flying tool!
